I came to Omeida to help me prepare for my IB Mandarin exam, and I left feeling more confident in the language, and so happy with the friends I made. It’s such a beautiful opportunity where you’re able to work in tandem with those in the English school, and become close to everyone, no matter their age and nationality. The teachers were lovely, and taught us in Chinese, but in a way that I still understood. The quality of their teaching was truly out of this world. Being able to experience authentic Chinese life was wonderful, and I’d do anything to go back. If you have any doubts, ignore them. I couldn’t be happier to have experienced this, and I miss it so incredibly much.

My time in Yangshuo could not have been any better if it had not been for Omeida. The work that they do for the community and connections they have with the local area makes it all the better for individuals interested in exploring a different facet of China. An escape from the urban city life, I had the privilege of touring mushroom farms, mountain peaks, and participating in local sports. It was an incredibly fun time where I could apply the language learning I received in the morning and afternoon (incredibly patient and skilled Chinese teachers). Highly recommend.

I chose Omeida Chinese Academy because I had studied there before, around ten years ago, and remembered it as an excellent experience. Coming back confirmed that memory completely. The quality of teaching, organisation, and overall learning environment is still outstanding.

I studied for four weeks as an “expert beginner” — someone who has learned Chinese on and off for many years — and the biggest change for me was confidence. The programme is full immersion, with classes taught in Chinese from the start, but teachers are patient and supportive, and will use English when needed to help you over hurdles. Classes are small (usually 3–6 students), well paced, and adapted to student interests, which makes learning feel relevant and alive.

Beyond the classroom, Omeida offers weekly cultural activities and real opportunities to engage with local life in Yangshuo. The setting really helps with focus: it’s beautiful, calm, and not distracting in the way big cities can be.

I’m 65, and I studied alongside people aged 17 to 60+, from all over the world. Beginners and advanced learners are both well supported. If you’re serious about learning Chinese, Omeida is a place I would recommend without hesitation.

Great school to learn Chinese, Chinese culture and lifestyle. Staff was very friendly, always ready to help and support in everything. I had an wonderful time in Omeida Academy School at Yangshou.

Every weekend their had different activities, that everybody could enjoy. I went to some of them and i had so much fun. I loved to go to the picking tea, raft in the river, and have cooking classes where I learned how to cook some Chinese dishes. My Chinese partner helped me alot and my Chinese teacher was so good and I learned and improved my Chinese. I will return for sure!

I went there for a month and my experience was really good, the staff was always really supportive and the environment is really nice, it’s a nice place to meet new people and make friends, my learning experience was also really great, being able to talk to the locals makes it really helpful when learning the language since the people in yangshuo are really kind and the course was great because it is really complete and they have a nice teaching system and their teachers are really comprehensive which makes this experience even better.

Omeida is the most flexible Chinese academy there is. They are able to accommodate for more and less intense courses, different books and lesson structures and overall are able to cater to student's needs. The best part is that everyone in Yangshuo but especially Omeida staff are eager to speak Chinese with you and help you understand. Omeida also organises activities which I would recommend attending to get to know your fellow students. There is a wide range of people and ages at Omeida so you can also practice your social skills.

Tried both the intensive and the standard course for 2-2 weeks + volunteering. The intensive course keeps you busy all day, so if you want time to travel and explore the neighbourhood, opt for the standard one. The classes are fun, your classmates are from all over the world, open and friendly. The Chinese students in the English school are also very motivated and helpful to make you better understand and navigate China. The school staff is extraordinary and do everything that you feel safe, comfortable and appreciated.

My husband and I stayed at Omeida for one week and started as complete beginners with the intensive course of 30 hours per week. We enjoyed our stay tremendously and are already planning to come back to continue our learning journey with Omeida.

The classes are very well structured, the teachers are extremely friendly, and the teaching style is perfectly adapted to our individual needs and wishes.

The language partner program is a perfect complement to the classes. It helped us make friends even within such a short time and allowed us to meet many interesting and inspiring people and even expand our professional network.

We also loved the beautiful scenery of Yangshuo and the immersive nature of the language course. Being able to order our breakfast baozi in Chinese already on the second day of class was an unforgettable experience.

All in all, we can wholeheartedly recommend Omeida and will definitely return.

I stayed at Omeida for two months, in September and October, and I really loved my lessons there. I learned a lot during my time at the school. The classes offered plenty of opportunities to speak Chinese, which helped me significantly improve my level. Of course, not every teacher’s teaching style will suit everyone, but whenever I wanted to adjust something about my lessons, the staff was always happy to help and quick to resolve any issues.

Besides the classes, there is so much to do in and around Yangshuo. I rented a scooter for the two months I was there, which really allowed me to explore the area easily and go wherever I wanted, so I would definitely recommend doing that (besides joining the school activities of course!) It was also so fun to meet the other students, there are people from all over the world of all different ages, so there are always people around to hang out with, to explore, or to play games with at school.

The language partner program that the school offers is also great. My language partner helped me out a lot in the beginning, not just with practicing my Chinese but also by showing me around Yangshuo and introducing me to her favorite restaurants and other places.

All in all, I definitely recommend going to Omeida to study Chinese. And last but not least, shoutout to the lovely little café in the student lounge :)

I stayed for 3 weeks in November 2025 to further improve my Mandarin in an immersion setting and to help Chinese students with their English. All the teaching and support staff were professional, friendly and extremely helpful. The accomodation was clean and nearby, with great food in the canteen for lunch and dinner, as well as various cultural activities and excursions you could sign up for. All set in lively Yangshuo. Omeida is something really special, including its lovely little cafè! 谢谢你们！
