Milan Atlantis Program

The city that we stayed in was beautiful and the shadowing was a great experience. I was able to observe many different rotation, including a full week of surgery. We also went out on weekly excursions that showed you beautiful destination on Italy. We went to Lake Como and Camogli while our hosts showed us all the best spots to eat and sight see. If you are looking for a program that will not only give you insight into another countries Healthcare system, medical experience, and a life-changing cultural experience then this is the trip for you!

Pavia

The trip to Pavia, Italy was nothing short of amazing! I felt like the city was a great pick as it was not a tourist city so we got to enjoy the true Italian experience while exploring so much. The shadowing was amazing because I learned a lot and made connections with the doctors. I will always remember this trip and it will be used to maximize my knowledge in healthcare. I can’t wait to write about my trip in grad school applications because it is such a monumental part of my journey now. Ciao for now!

Haley’s Experience

I really enjoyed getting to know my peers and the excursions allowed me to learn about Portugal in ways I probably would not have otherwise! Shadowing in hospitals allowed me to be in places like the OR that I would not have had the privilege to see as an undergraduate student. I am grateful to have been apart of a smaller group of students as well because I feel as though the site managers got to know us on a personal level and we have shared lasting memories with them. I plan to continue the connections I’ve made.

Pros
  • Peers
  • Excursions
  • Food
Cons
  • Language Barrier

DO IT!!

At first I was a bit hesitant on this program, thinking it was too good to be true. But the more I got to know and the information provided by the Atlantis Team, the more eager I was to sign up. I’m so glad I decided to take this journey to another country to shadow. I work in a hospital so I have shadowing experience but this was nothing compared to what I experienced through the Atlantis program. I learned so much new knowledge that I never would’ve learned if I didn’t decide to go on this trip.

Pros
  • Shadowing experience
  • Pre-med

Pavia

Our city manager was extremely qualified and helpful. All of the Atlantis planned meals and excursions were even better than I expected and really helped us embrace the culture while also being very fun! The shadowing experience was really interesting for me because it was quite different than shadowing I have been apart of in the US. It was extremely fascinating to see the differences in health care systems, and I was able to see many cool procedures that it would have been much harder to in the US.

An Incredible Opportunity

Getting to shadow doctors in different departments was amazing. I learned so much and got to meet some incredible people. The program staff is so kind and helpful, always available and supportive. We stayed in a really nice building in beautiful apartments, and I really felt that I got to experience the daily life of Zaragoza citizens. Our excursions were so fun and educational, and the three weeks of the program seemed to fly by. Our group dinners were delicious and always offered us a different type of cuisine, enhancing our knowledge and experience.

Atlantis Pre-Health Program in Spain

My experience with Atlantis was incredible! I felt very welcomed by each of the departments and learned so much during my three-week experience. I got the opportunity to explore several different departments and learn about topics that I would not have had the opportunity to do at home. The Atlantis team was also very helpful throughout my trip and was always available to help and answer any questions I has. I had so much fun and made lifelong friends and lasting memories. This was truly an incredible experience that I would recommend to anyone.

Pros
  • pre-health experience
  • sense of community
  • travel opportunities
Cons
  • expensive

Just go for it

If you are independent and want a good mix of free time and shadowing, you need to go on an Atlantis trip. They provide so much support and activities and group dinners. I got to experience so much in just two weeks and I would do it again every time. I had a great time in my rotations and was exposed to a lot of different things. I was also able to do a bit of traveling within Spain while I was there while still getting ample shadowing hours in. This was also my first time out of the States and it was amazing all around. If you are even thinking about studying abroad with Atlantis, just go for it. You won't regret it.

Pros
  • Free time
  • Medical experience
  • Tried lots of Spanish cuisine
Cons
  • Larger groups are a bit hard to navigate with

Coolest experience ever!

This experience was one I will never forget. In the hospital, I was exposed to a whole new world of medicine which helped open my eyes to the differences in health care around the world. It allowed me to witness surgeries, patient care, behind the scenes work, and basic doctor interaction. Outside of the hospital, this program allowed me to meet individuals with similar passions and goals and created an environment for us to explore a new country together. Overall, the program was amazing, and I wish I could go back!

Pros
  • You gain experience that you wouldn't normally get in the U.S. without a degree
  • You meet new people with similar interests
  • You get to explore a new country both guided and on your own
Cons
  • Sometimes the hours at the hospital limited sight-seeing ability

This trip was such an amazing experience! Words cannot explain all that I got from this trip. Not only did I have the chance to immerse myself in the culture of Croatia, but I got to meet life long friends. The hospital staff was very welcoming and I got to observe multiple different departments, Two in which I had to scrub in for!! I was very excited the whole duration of my trip. Even when leaving the hospital I was excited to go back the next day and see what was new. I cannot promote this trip enough. It was an amazing experience.

Cons
  • Would want to explore city more
  • travel to surrounding cities
