Good experience

Although I have taken a part for only one program which lasted a week, I think I was able to get the whole experience of interacting with kids and meet new people. Talking with students for 8 sessions a day was tiring at times but I really enjoyed talking to the students and learned a lot from them too. It was worthwhile to receive such kind remarks from some of the students and how much the limited little times that we spent communicating left a valuable memory for them. My fellow mentors are good and nice people too.

Great experience

Had an awesome time with all the mentors and mentees. I'd love to participate again in future. The venues are calm and beautiful. The rooms are also pretty good. I got a lot of friends in this program and the kids are also cool. One can enjoy a lot as well as teach at the same time.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
You will love the program from start to end. Be prepared to talk a lot and have a bottle of water with you always ;)

Terrible organization, and a program that doesn't care about laws or safety

I signed up for Angloville in summer 2021, when COVID is still a significant problem. The original program I signed up for was actually canceled because the country closed its borders due to rising numbers of COVID cases. I signed up for another program a few weeks later, and was promised they would follow local laws regarding COVID, including social distancing and masking inside.

Before leaving for the trip, I repeatedly encountered bad planning and lack of forethought on the part of the organizers. For example, I needed to get a negative COVID test in order to return to my home country after the program. I was going to fly out the day after the program ended, and the test needed to be taken 48 hours before flying out. So, I asked the organizers if COVID testing was going to be built into the itinerary on the second-last day of the program -- otherwise, I would have to leave during the day to go get the test, and I assumed other people would also need to take the test. The organizer was impressed that I had thought of that, because it had not occurred to the organizing team. For another example, I asked about transportation to the program location from the airport (an hour drive away), and they hadn't thought about that either. Only with prompting from me did they say they would look into it. Then, 4 days before the program started when I still hadn't heard anything, I looked into it myself and emailed them what I had found. They then thanked me for doing their job and forwarded that information to the other volunteers.

After flying across the Atlantic to get there, I discovered that not only were the program coordinators not following the laws, but they didn't care when I asked about it. I told them I was concerned about COVID, because I needed a negative test to get back to my country. They said, "Well, just don't worry about it," shrugged, and walked away. For reference, it was a group of about 60 people, who were mostly teenagers. I talked to the other program coordinator, who said, "They're teenagers, I can't tell them what to do." What a great attitude from someone who is in charge of a large group of teenagers.

The only positive experience I had was that the other volunteers I met were fun and friendly. Maybe Angloville should consider taking care of them better. I would not recommend this program to anyone.

What would you improve about this program?
Communicate better with your volunteers, and follow laws in order to keep them safe.

Angloville

Has a great time at Angloville meeting different people from all over the world. They had a great system set up and it ran very smoothly. I would had loved to stay longer but had commitments at home. Will maybe go back next year if possible. I would definitely recommend this programme for people who want to travel on their own for the first time as this was my first time traveling on my own and I felt very safe and secure at all times. The coordinators were always there to help when you needed. The participants in the programme we’re so lovely too. It was overall an incredible experience for me.

Angoville

Angoville program was an eye opener for me. I got to learn not only the English language but also culture from different native speakers and the participants. They was never a dull moment in the program. Food and Accommodation was perfect . When tired they was always a way to regain your energy. Different accents same language made it very interesting to chat with each and every one. Also different age groups. We had so many materials to work with so you would never run out of what to do. We had friendly coordinators who made life easier for everyone.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Meeting the other native speakers and the participants was nerve racking but every one was very cheerful which made it easy for me to fit in.

Excellent Trip!

It was a great experience to meet the participants in Poland from different fields of expertise and backgrounds. I personally believe that these kinds of Angloville programs help you to build your skills, knowledge, teaching technique and also build your confidence as a mentor and also understand the difference culture and allow you to teach ESL to non native students as a second language. You can also explore the adventure from the country side along with different fun activities with the local mentees. I will definitely join the Angloville program in the future .

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
When I reached the country I saw the city and it was very clean and the sights were unbelievable

Great experience 😃

I had a great angloville experience. I felt like it met all my expectations. The days were long but very relaxed and always fun. We also had several day/afternoon trips included in the programme! It was so fun meeting the other mentors and participants. Everyone was so friendly and wanted to make the most of the experience. The English coordinators were especially good and helpful too, they always gave 100% energy and ensured everyone was happy and felt comfortable to approach them if they had any issue.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would sign up to do more programmes instead of just one.

Angloville Summer 2020

I had a great experience teaching both juniors and adults on the Angloville programme. The lessons were genuinely rewarding and it was great fun building connections with the participants and watching them make progress. The Angloville staff were all very friendly and always there to help you with any worries or concerns. It was also really interesting from a cultural perspective in the way that I was able to learn more about the Polish way of life and customs from local people who were always keen to share their thoughts. I would recommend this type of programme to anyone looking for a positive mentoring experience over the summer.

What would you improve about this program?
Better options for vegetarians. Sometimes the meals were very meat-heavy

Angloville Programme in Hungary

Angloville was such a great experience for me. I moved to Hungary with my husband 9 months ago and have struggled to find employment myself. The week away volunteering gave me a sense of purpose once again. I enjoyed being able to finally use my English skills in a productive way in Hungary (!) and I relished the chance to help others and hopefully make a difference. I gained confidence when talking to strangers and those strangers have now become my friends. I would most definitely like to participate with Angloville again!

What was your funniest moment?
Playing 'the little frog jumped in to the pond, splash!' Such a simple game, but really had us all laughing when people (mostly mentors) forgot to add the actions to the words.

Bachledowka

I particularly enjoy working as a volunteer. I have always enjoyed working as a teacher but working as a volunteer is a quite different and very rewarding experience. I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet and get to know local people. I have been so impressed by Poland, the countryside, the people, the traditions and the food. Altogether a very enjoyable experience. The only disappointment was that the food at the hotel was not nearly as good as it was last year. I think that covid 19 has meant that the hotel is struggling.

What was your funniest moment?
My funniest moment was during a game called ‘Do you like your Neighbour?’
