About Program

Our Fall and Spring semesters are offered for a 12-week or 16-week program. During the semester program, students can take Spanish language learning courses, discipline-specific courses taught in Spanish, and/or study with locals. The Spanish courses are offered over 4 weeks where students take 20 contact hours per week. The Electives are available in English or Spanish, and they are taken during 3 months. The Study with Locals program is for students with advanced Spanish proficiency who would like to be integrated with Costa Rican students. The available course options range from art, architecture, and design; they are based on 15 weeks. There are 2 spring options available a 12-week and a 16-week semester.

As a college student who has had a non-traditional experience, the study abroad program in Universisdad Veritas deserves credit for their highly organized program. Everything from the excursions down to the home-stays made the experience worthwhile.

What would you improve about this program?

The only problem was the miscommunication with my roommate and I's return flight pick up. Other than that, everything went smoothly.

What position do you hold at VERITAS? What has been your career path so far?

I've been working for VERITAS as Physiologist, Students Affairs, and Home-stay Coordinator. My main career path has been working with the families and students of the program as a Physiologist.

Did YOU study abroad? If so, where and what inspired you to go?

Yes! I went for two months to University of Northern Iowa. There are two reasons why I went there. The first one was because I needed to improve my English, and the second one was I wanted to understand better how my students can feel living in another country. As a physiologist I have to deal with people who feel overwhelmed because they are homesick, living in a different culture, and being far away from family, and missing all those things that they used to do in their everyday life.

What does the future hold for Universidad Veritas- any new exciting programs to share? What about the future of the study abroad industry?

Well, first of all, we already have an incredible high quality of learning from the courses we offer in our university. Then lot of greats cultural experiences, and a lot of amazing activities for the students who wants to get involved in the VERITAS life.

The industry will change in the sense that this industry will help people to become better professionals with a broad perspective and greater professional judgment thanks to the cultural experience. Because this experience opens your mind to see different aspects of how the world works. I see a lot more students studying abroad in 10 years.

Which study abroad destination is most underrated? Conversely, which is the most overrated?

This is a hard question, because we are on the receiving side of students. I know that a lot of students go to Spain to learn spanish, but Costa Rica is closer, cheaper, and this country has a lot to offer students!
