Best Summer Ever

I studied at the University of Roehampton in the Summer of 2024 for June and July. Putney is a lovely place to live in and is only about a 20-minute train ride into the city. I enjoyed the classes I took this summer and the hands-on experience my Shakespeare class gave me (seeing plays at the Globe Theatre). I made a great friend group from around the world and enjoyed the beauty of the campus. There is so much to see and do in England, and I was happy I could enjoy it without living in the middle of London city. I was very happy with my experience and would definitely go again.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I did was take the train to Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice with some friends I met at Roehampton. We found out that Stonehenge has this massive celebration where 10s of thousands of people come together to pray, dance, eat, and touch the stones all night. It was one of the best celebrations I have been to and it definitely brought me and my friends together to the point where we want to go again and be more prepared to spend all night under the stones.
Pros
  • Meeting my friend group
  • Getting to see plays at the Globe Theatre
  • Being able to take the train all over England
Cons
  • Dorm Living conditions
  • Arriving a few days late to the program(due to flights) and trying to figure out how to get to Roehampton myself
  • Toilet paper not being given to us

Had a really great experience

I enjoyed Roehampton because the campus is so beautiful. The campus is also about 30 minutes away from the city with a train station and tube stop nearby. Roehampton was easy to navigate, and everyone was very friendly. I enjoyed my module, and I met a lot of new people! I really loved studying abroad in London at Roehampton. I was happy to study theatre in London and see shows that I may not have seen otherwise. London was one of the places that I wanted to go see and the fact that I could study abroad there made it even better. I loved my time in London, and I wish that I had more time there. I would come back in a heartbeat.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Learning how to navigate in a new country and meeting new people. I overcame this challenge by using city mapper, google maps, and other map apps along with traveling with people the first couple of days to get familiar with the city. I also just talked to people in my class, at lunch, etc. to make friends and meet new people.
Pros
  • Beautiful Campus
  • Great location
  • Good classes
Cons
  • Felt too short and class was rushed

Roehampton

The dorms were run down with some showers flooding and toilets malfunctioning. The alarm system was malfunctioning so we were sometimes woken up in the morning by loud alarms. My campus ID and room card also malfunctioned multiple times. It was clear the campus was winding down from the academic year and not exactly ready for new students. The campus is beautiful and the city is easily accessible. The academics weren't particularly rigorous or prioritized within the program so wouldn't recommend if you were expecting an intense or in-depth study. Good program for casual travelers who aren't picky with lodging or academic programs.

The best summer at Roehampton!!

I absolutely loved doing summer school at Roehampton University. The summer program is an amazing alternative to studying abroad all semester and I'm glad that I chose it. The classes are designed for exchange students and to teach you about the culture and history of London while also giving you the time to explore the city on your own and make friends with the other study abroad students. The other students and I truly felt like a family who had known each other for years after just a few days of exploring the city together. The University of Roehampton reminds me so much of King's because of its smaller size and tight knit community that was incredibly welcoming. I think every student should consider studying abroad, and the Summer at Roehampton Program is the perfect option for students who cannot go away for months at a time.

Amazing 3 weeks!

The University of Roehampton folks were super welcoming and friendly! The events they had planned for us were fun, inviting, and really interactive. Never once did I feel like I was alone here. From the minute I stepped off the plane to the minute I returned home, Roehampton was with me every step of the way. My tutor was funny and made learning about art really fun and interesting. Through the class course, I was able to see some really amazing museums. I HIGHLY recommend attending the University of Roehampton for your summer!

Pros
  • Super friendly people
  • Getting lost and finding places you couldn't even imagine
  • The gelato in here is very delicious
Cons
  • Public transportation really racks up
  • Uber's here are very expensive

Beautiful Campus ,Nice People

The campus is really beautiful with lakes, lawn and animals. The study environment is really comfortable. The staffs and professors are super nice too. Transportation is good . Very convenient to get to the centre london! I hope I can stay here for longer time.

What would you improve about this program?
3 weeks is not enough. Make it longer than 3 weeks will be really good.

Best Summer Ever!

I had such a wonderful and memorable experience at Roehampton University! I made life long friendships and had an amazing time exploring London! I took the "Introduction to the London Stage" class, and I thoroughly enjoyed the theatre in London. All of the shows we went to see for class were interesting and expanded my knowledge of theatre. We saw 10 different shows as a class in the 3 weeks I was there.
There were many fun places to hang out with people I met, and the campus is just a short ride on the tube away from central London. There are plenty of places to shop there, plus there's cool markets to check out where I bought some really awesome souvenirs.
The Roehampton University campus is beautiful! I would highly recommend this program for your summer study abroad trip! 10/10

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing I would like to change about this program is to make it longer than 3 weeks. It can go by too fast.

Summer School

Studying at Roehampton University was an absolute pleasure! The campus is beautiful with gorgeous lakes and lush green parks to enjoy time with friends. The staff and advisors were super friendly and very helpful throughout my time studying here. The rooms are decent but do get very warm in the summer. Overall, studying at Roehampton was great fun and I've made friends from around the world that will stay with me for a lifetime!
