About Program

Our exciting program from Portugal is the Vale Boi field school, exploring the interactions between anatomically modern humans and our Neanderthal cousins. This site, which spans from 33,000-13,000 years ago, holds evidence of habitation from both groups.

This program holds intense interest for those students who want to study the movement on anatomically modern humans into the European continent, and the disappearance of the Neanderthals who had made Europe their home for over 200,000 years.

Located on the beautiful coast of southern Portugal, students live in comfort while exploring one of the most fascinating periods of human prehistory.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with Institute for Field Research for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.
