Seville Review

I absolutely loved this team! They made my experience so much more enjoyable and memorable. Everyone was so welcoming, kind, and full of positive energy. You could tell they were genuinely excited to be there, and their enthusiasm was contagious. We constantly fed off their energy, which made every moment even better. Each person brought something special to the group, and I loved getting to know them all. They made everyone feel included and supported. They truly cared about us, and I couldn't have asked for a better team!

What was your funniest moment?
On one of our excursions, we went to a winery. It was like a dream, so perfect. We laughed and tasted wine, and it was amazing. I will never forget it.

My amazing experience

I had so much fun being in Spain. The people were so kind and generous and the social scene was very different than what I’m used to back in the United States. I made lasting friendships that will last me a long
time. I also had the opportunity to visit other places around the world which isn’t always accessible to many people in the United States. I really appreciated how much walking I did because I always feel like I’m contributing to the degradation of the environment whenever I drive. I would much rather live in a walkable city. I also got to have mini field trips within my classes that helped me experience more of what Spain is like. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would do more research on the city.

A Lifetime of Adventure in One Semester

Studying abroad in Seville, Spain at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide was the absolute best decision of my life. If I had to sum up my experience, I truly feel like I lived five different lives in just one semester.
From day one, the program opened doors to experiences I never thought possible. I was able to fully embrace the vibrant Spanish culture, watch breathtaking flamenco shows right in Seville, taste amazing food, and meet some of the most incredible people.
My classes at Pablo de Olavide were challenging, but incredibly rewarding. One of the absolute best perks of the schedule was having no classes on Fridays. That three-day weekend gave my friends and me the freedom to book a flight on a whim, explore six different countries, and immerse ourselves in entirely different cultures. Traveling the world with your friends is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Because of that flexibility, my memories feel endless:
- Riding camels through the Sahara Desert
- Exploring street markets in London
- Eating authentic pasta in Rome
- Creating a bond with a group of girls that I know I will have with me for the rest of my life
I tasted unforgettable food, grew so much, and created memories that will last forever. If you want a program that challenges you academically while giving you the ultimate freedom to explore the world, this is it. It is an unforgettable experience that stays with you long after you fly home!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-racking moment for me was when I went cliff jumping with my friends along the coast of Mallorca. We were in the most beautiful place surrounded by crystal blue waters as we all held hands and decided to jump off of a cliff 20ft. down into the clear water. I was nervous, but it felt SO freeing. I don't regret it one bit. I am actually proud of myself for getting out of my comfort zone. This ended up being one of my favorite memories.
Pros
  • Traveling was more affordable through budget airlines when already in Europe. Got to experience six different countries!!
  • Made an International friend group.
  • Tried so much amazing food!
What other participants should know
  • The university was a bit out of the central city so the commute was around 30 minutes by metro. But it was cool to meet local students!
  • The homestay food can be hit or miss. Just communicate your wants and needs.

Seville, Spain <3

Studying abroad in Seville Spain was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The location was beautiful with so much to see and explore, in 4 months I got to see so much and at the same time only scratched the surface. Both locals and people from my program were so welcoming and kind, it made the experience of being so far from home easier. Being in a forge in country taught me to be independent and how to navigate the world myself, while also meeting some of the best people from all over the world.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
For future travelers to Seville, I would definitely recommend getting out there as much as possible. Meet new people, spend time relaxing and doing work in parks and outdoors, try to learn the language, eat all the food! For me, while the big moments are unforgettable, the things I miss most from my time there are the little things like taking the metro and walking the streets home every day. Enjoy everything and try to take the most out of the experience you can because it is once in a lifetime.
Pros
  • Beautiful City
  • Delicious Food
  • Easy Traveling Point

Semester in Seville

I really enjoyed studying at the Universidad de Sevilla! As an art student, I had a lot of opportunities to create meaningful work in my courses and felt supported by my professors and my program. I also had a great experience with my host family, and overall felt pretty comfortable with things. I had the chance to meet really great people through the university and through my program which helped make the experience special. Location-wise, Seville was also a great home base while exploring other regions of Spain and nearby countries, whether with the program or solo. In terms of affordability, activities, and walkability, it's definitely a sound option!

The most life changing experience!

I cannot rave about the experience that I had with ISA enough! I went with my best friend, and it allowed us to gain a whole realm of experiences and opportunities while we were making unique memories that will last a lifetime. We stayed with a host mom, Inma, who truly made us feel right at home. She loved and cared for us like we were her own children, offering to help us with whatever we needed, whether it was a ride to/from the airport, flamenco lessons, or assistance with my Spanish homework assignment - she was always there. I cannot express how much I miss Sevilla.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to you would be to say yes to everything! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, soak up everything! Make new friends! Take the trip! Do it all!
I will also remind you to give yourself grace - for the first week I felt like I was in such a daze, in a new country, with all new people speaking a language I don't fully understand. Keep pushing and remind yourself that it's okay that you're still just learning.
Pros
  • Improved my Spanish capability and confidence
  • Pushed myself outside my comfort zone
  • Got to travel the world!
What other participants should know
  • Missing home
  • Getting sick
  • Feeling overwhelmed the first week

Seville, Well Worth My Years of Interest in Studying Abroad

For my 2025 spring semester I finally got to fulfill a years-long goal of studying abroad. My journey towards completing this experience was very intentional and I prioritized a lot more than just having fun.

Before entering college, I set the goal to take a semester abroad and do everything I can to make it work financially and academically. I knew I wanted to travel in the future and always thought I'd find fulfillment in doing so.

I spent my sophomore year researching study abroad programs until I landed on ISA in Seville for spring of my junior year. I could complete my Spanish minor immersed in Spanish culture and take classes that counted as credits towards my global business undergraduate certificate and my B.S in finance. Being able to stay on track academically and getting a scholarship and other aid from my home university seemed to make this a worthy opportunity for me. However, I wouldn't truly know how worthy it would be until actually doing it.

When I touched down in Seville on my 1,000+ mile solo-journey, ISA helped me get to my host family and made my traveling feel stress-free. ISA consistently offered this type of support throughout my semester, for both my academics and safety.

I was worried about meeting my host family and making friends i the program. I had not gone abroad with anyone that I knew and would be living with a random roommate in the house of a family that did not speak English. These things were well beyond my usually comfort zone, but I knew they would make for a valuable experience that would be fun to look back on. I ended up having a great roommate and a fantastic host family that I was able to practice my language skills on. Ultimately, everyone going into this experience, whether with friends or not, is probably out of their comfort zone in some way. The first week reminded me of my first week at college freshman year where everyone is willing to socialize and make new friends more than they may usually be. It was funny having that experience again a few years later with other students who have already been through that as well.

Overall, I had an amazing time in Seville, and I want to go back in the future. I bonded over soccer with classmates, and we spent a lot of time watching games at bars, going to games in Seville (Soy con Betis), and even taking trips together in Porto and Mallorca, outside of the trips that came with my ISA program. Soccer was a big reason I chose Seville as I knew it was the heart of serious passion in Spain. I get goosebumps thinking about the roar of Betis fans in the Benito Villamarín as they sang before and throughout games and beeped their motorcycles to the tune of...bad words towards their rivals. My soccer experiences peeked seeing an American score for Betis against Madrid from the front row and that same player scoring in the derby against Sevilla (as I stood in a crowd outside a bar nearby the stadium, where about 10% of people could actually see the game on the bar TV and the rest screamed for Betis blindly). I got to experience the love of soccer in Seville many times a week in different ways, meeting people from Spain and around the world as my friends and I went to different bars, games, and events.

Seville was rich with culture and events like "Semana Santa" and "Día de Andalucia" were extraordinary to experience. I meant so many local people in Seville, on solo trips to other cities, and with my friends and program. I learned so much from these people and will cherish every conversation.

I will cherish all of the conversation. All of the food, kebab especially. All of the soccer. All of the trips. All of the nights out. I have countless stories to tell and experiences I won't forget. Seville was a perfect city for its location, weather, medium-size, food, culture, and so much more. My host family was super supportive as well and I made a friendship with my host brother and sister that has lasted beyond my programs finish.

Ultimately, you can make study abroad what you want it to be. I meant other students in countless different situations and found that success abroad came down to just how willing you are. Willing to embrace a new culture, start conversations with strangers, try to communicate in a new language, and adjust to countless other things. I was willing to do these things and left Seville with so many great memories, new American and Spanish friends with them.

My classes were anchored to local events and offered activities throughout the city. I had plenty of support from the people at ISA Seville's office and rarely felt unsafe. Overall, I had a lot of fun and studying abroad and it was well worth the hype I gave it beforehand.

I would encourage anyone who wants to take courses in business or Spanish, experience soccer culture, eat good food, meet nice people, and live in a nice city to choose Seville. These are things I can speak to directly and I hope anyone reading this with overlapping interests would consider Seville for their study abroad city.

What was your funniest moment?
going to a club with my roommate and host sister as well as her friends was such a funny, awesome opportunity I wouldn't have previously thought possible.

The night of "Día de Andalucia" I came back from a (wet) trip to Ronda and found my roommate hanging out on our family's porch with our host siblings and their friends. I had to shower and take an exam for an online course with Arizona State before I could get to socializing. However, I knew my roommate was probably fighting for his life to communicate as his Spanish was very basic and I was often his help for any in-depth conversing. This was true but to his credit he was quite effective in communicating with his hands and some translations, he loved the challenge as well. We ended up having plenty of funny conversations often thanks to mistranslations and some cultural differences.

Eventually we went to a club (very, very late as Spanish people do) to celebrate the region's holiday. Beforehand though, my roommate and I had to change our outfits to look a little more local if we wanted any chance at getting past the bouncer. The whole night was incredible, and we laughed (got laughed at) as we tried to sing and dance to the music (mainly bad bunny, Shakira, and the likes). My roommate and I felt like we were in a squad of local tour guides escorting us through the night. They helped us get into a club (that didn't have much interest in tourists) and taught us to dance.

Pros
  • Awesome culture
  • Supportive staff
  • Easy to make friends
What other participants should know
  • Some students lacked respect and maturity on program trips
  • Seville airport doesn't have a good variety of cheap flights (Compared to bigger cities like Madrid, London, and Rome that allow students many options for other trips while abroad)

Study abroad with ISA

After researching different study abroad programs, I decided ISA was the best option for me, and I am so glad I did! ISA has the best benefits, is so budget friendly for what they provide, and there for you every step of the way. My experience in Seville was something I will never forget, and I highly recommend taking the step to go with ISA! I especially loved that ISA has an office in every study abroad city, so I know I have people there who are there for me in case of emergency or any needs I have! The bonus trips were also an amazing perk and gave me the opportunity to see new places and also get to know people on my program better.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I ate in Spain had to do with the nature of their dinners. Instead of large meals, they would eat tapas, which are small plates of a variety of foods. Mostly seafood, or traditional Spanish appetizers like patatas bravas.
Pros
  • Very authentic Spanish city
  • Easy airport to travel out of
  • Beautiful, lots of nature and history
What other participants should know
  • School can be a tiny bit out of the way of the city depending on what College you go to
