a beast!!

this was my first online training course but its easy to see why they have a good reputation as staff were always ready to give me help and the course itself hit the mark with everything from videos to wee tip boxes and checkpoin t questions and kinda thing. i had no clue what i was doing at first as ive never taught or thought of it before but after the 11th module i had a good idea of what teaching was gonna be like. this is easy enough to follow and the videos showing teachers doing their classroom thing made it clear what to expect for me. this doesnt look like itll be an easy gig but it does feel like something i can absolutely get into which i kinda appreciate about this course cos it doesnt hide that tefl teaching is going to be an ajustment. anyway thats me its a solid course and i liked it

What was your funniest moment?

Fast LMS system and an excellent course and value

I'm going to preface this by saying I already had my certificate apostilled before writing this review - I wanted to make sure that came good. I've already been accepted for a teaching position in Beijing via a recruiter I got from the site. Does that make things more positive? bsolutely, but I'd be recommending the TEFL Masters (TEFL-TESOL) course even if I hadn't found work yet. In a word, it's wonderful! There's too much to cover here, but you'll find helpful tutors, an organised course packed full of information and experience and ideas that really took me from having no clue to feeling ready to get started in a classroom in around 5 weeks. It wasn't a course designed for those looking to finish in an hour or two, but it more seemed geared to details and pushing me to apply the teaching knowledge it provided.

There were videos for every bit of text (even the tip boxes), and more videos of certain concepts, and even more videos in showing teaching demonstrations in places like China and Korea. I can't emphasise enough how important these demo videos were in helping me feel confident, to the point where I'd say not having them would make me feel the course (or any course trying to train teachers online) was lesser if it didn't have them. Maybe that's because I'm quite a visual learner on the VARK scale, but there's something about seeing something in action that makes it feel more achievable than just words. On that note, the assessments of the TEFL masters course were likewise excellent. There were a mix of passive and active practice questions when I read the text, then practice quiz questions with really detailed feedback, questions based on 'what would you do in X class if this happened?' (kind of teaching scenarios that eventually built into a full class experience of 'A happens now, so should you do B, C, D, and why?') Again, I can't emphasise the usefulness of these problem solving questions enough. This was exactly what I was looking for because they managed to teach me what to expect, and though I feel confident, I absolutely don't expect it to be easy. I do expect that I'll have a good base from which to start learning more. This learning experience was excellent.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I'd take more written notes
Pros
  • Videos galore, deep text content, and effective in helping me learn
  • The demo teaching videos were exceptional and so were the scenarios
  • Apostille and recruiter links work
Cons
  • Am sure I could think of one, but nothing stands out for a 40 pounds course

High quality learning environment

I went in to this course not knowing much about it to be honest as it was just like a chatgpt whim. I just clicked a few pages and liked what I saw then was signed up. What I noticed right away was how smooth and attractive the learning website was - you click to open tip boxes and that kind of thing and there are little review questions as you go. It's thorough content but that also means the assessments are numerous also (which might not suit those looking to finish quickly - the TEFL masters is legit rather than being able to complete it in a few hours like my friend told me she did). I'm happy it was as it is because why pay for education that doesn't actually educate? My friend learned nothing from her course, whereas I feel like I learned many key things. She paid less than I did, I suppose. I definitely recommend this course for those looking to learn rather than those just buying a certificate.

recommend for those on a budget and still looking to learn

I'll preface this with a bit of context: I've taught before but not for a while, and I wanted something that was rated for being of good value both in price and in terms of being able to teach me a bit and get me churning up and adding to what I used to know. The units on lesson planning, vocablary, and receptive and production skills, and different types of learners were the standout ones for me (not interested in online teaching, but I get why it was in there). The course makers have made this really colourful and interactive and clearly tried hard to make it a bit special - it's kind of hard to explain, but there's alot of scenario questions that really push you into a teaching mindset. I found these really helpful, but that's because I wanted to learn more. For those not wanting to learn (maybe experienced teachers with more confidence than me, I figure you can skip a few things and still pass, but why not learn a bit anyway?

Strong course, learned lots

I researched a number of TEFL courses from 120 hrs to 200+ with some cheaper and others far pricier, but I'm really happy with my choice because of the balance. This was pretty hard work as there's a lot to learn and quite a few assessment tasks etc to help you learn and I guess so the can be sure you've actually learned the content. The cheaper ones I looked at had some chat in Reddit and other reviews saying they were basic/simple - to me that's a red flag that they're not worth anything in learning value or in the future to employers, potentially. This course felt legit and covered many niche areas I didn't see elsewhere in course planners, so for me that's a win. I didn't have any need to contact staff until I messaged about job advice, and they were quick to respond. Nothing else to say except this was a bargain and worth my time and energy.

I want to explain my 5 stars in detail

This is exceptional in my opinion:
Staff are quick to respond to messages and are genuinely trying to teach.
The course body text is well-designed, clear and has fullness of detail to make it relevant for adult learners.
Videos are useful if you like text read allowed, though I prefer my own voice :)
The teaching videos are examples of what makes the course so good compared to another one I tried - how can you learn to teach without seeing teaching? The classroom videos are excellent for modeling.
The interactive tasks aren't fully practical but they do make you think and use your mind passed just remembering facts - I really appreciate what they are trying to do for learning here.
Quizzes aren't just giving you the answers but actually making you remember and manipulate.
Extra information on teaching different ages and how to make a demo video and find jobs online or abroad are excellent resources.
The job support they give is actually very understated - they give so much informacion and many links for recruiters and suggestions as well as a discount on the apostille service.
Recruiters have responded to tell me their certificate is accepted (Asia South East), so this is good knowledge.

Just this is excellent and I wanted to share my positive experience.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Complete the activities well as these are importante for thinking like a teacher.

A couple of things need updated here compared to the website

I'll start by saying that the course is exactly what it claims to be on their website, but the info here isn't up to date - I paid $49 for the 120 hours course which included 3 different certificates (one that I can print if I want, but I won't because everything's digital!). Also, it says up to one year of access on this review site but I believe when I purchased the course it's only 6 months I had to finish. Regardless of these things, it's a legitimate course in terms of actually having everything in it that they claim: rich text offerings, human audio videos and many interactive opportunities. It's not practical in that you actually teach someone, but they do make you think about everything in steps to problem solve as if it were real. A bit different though! I gladly recommend TEFLmasters to anyone who wants to learn rather than just finish quickly, because it's not possible to rush through it in my opinion.

I took my time

This review is for those looking to actually learn. A friend of mine took a tefl course on another platform last year and was able to click through in 3 hours to finish it. I wasn't interested in that kind of nonsense, and fortunately this course wasn't like that one. I did the 120 hours of online TEFL. The course was brilliant: it looked good, worked first time and had nice touches everywhere, like tip boxes and practice questions across the text, for example. But the single most useful feature was their real lesson videos, which kind of answered my questions about lesson timing etc. I should add that the certificates were accepted by online teaching platforms.
