About Program

Cambodia is a must-visit destination for any traveler, with stunning geographical landscapes, ancient temples, and a vibrant culture.

Volunteering with AHHA Education enables you to experience this unique country, all whilst making a positive impact. Our NGO empowers and inspires communities through holistic education. We offer English, IT, and Life Skills courses to disadvantaged youths in Cambodia, also providing them with opportunities to apply their learning in real-life situations. We accept volunteers from a variety of backgrounds and welcome everyone who believes they can make a difference, with both teaching roles and office-based roles being available.

In addition to our schooling operation, we also have a few hotels in Kampot which are part of the Group, with 51% of our profit directly assisting educational programs nationwide. By choosing to volunteer in our hotels, you're supporting quality education, and hotel positions are currently available.

An experience of a lifetime, to remember for a lifetime!

I had been teaching in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and when my contract expired I decided to take the opportunity to do volunteer work; something I had been wanting to do for decades (I am 60). After sifting through many options I got accepted at AHHA Education, an NGO in Kampot, Cambodia. The section of AHHA that I got recruited for is based in the town itself, whereas two other sections, including a school, are based outside, but close to, the town. So you will not be based in a remote rural area like some volunteer programs are. I worked in the Communications Department of the NGO where we focused on activities involved in raising much-needed funds to support the school program. My business and marketing skills were very much appreciated by AHHA and they were always happy to show their gratitude. The volunteering experience itself was very humbling and satisfying, and is something I would recommend everybody should do at least once in the lifetime. I'm really happy I did it.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
When you are putting in your hours you will find that time moves faster when you think of your efforts not as work that you have to do, but rather as service to others who really need your help. The rewards will also be greater with this attitude.

A great learning and cultural experience

I have thoroughly enjoyed volunteering with AHHA Education as part of the office team. Being able to utilise business skills that I have acquired in my studies and apply it in a southeast Asian context has been a really unique experience and has definitely led to personal development.

Not only have I developed personally and feel I have gained experience and had lots of fun, it has also been rewarding to be giving back to the people of Cambodia through my work and feel I am making a difference.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Definitely explore the surrounding area. I was based in Kampot and went on a biker mountain tour, seeing some amazing views, temples and a waterfall. Doing this really added something else in addition to volunteering!
Pros
  • Meeting some great people
  • Gaining experience
  • Great food and accommodation
