About Program

Seva Mandir’s volunteer program in India provides an opportunity for volunteers to gain valuable experience and insight into international development through hands on work. Every year, Seva Mandir welcomes over 150 volunteers who all have a tremendous impact on the work we do in India.

Many of our volunteers in India are students who come from around the world to study and participate in community development research. Together, we hope to formulate sustainable strategies for long-term development. Please visit our website for more information about volunteering in India with Seva Mandir.

See what development is really like!

I interned at Seva Mandir for 7 months in the health unit. They prefer long term volunteers because it takes a little while to learn how things are run. Every month I was there, I got better and better at doing my work. There is free housing in dormitories, but I lived with an awesome family. I worked 10-5, 6-days a week. I wrote reports, ran surveys, developed training curricula for health workers and went to the villages to help run and observe health interventions. I got to make a real difference. It was life-changing.

The flip side of this is that you have to be independent. You are there to help out, so it's up to you to find things that need to be done and do them.
