About Program

Sadhana Forest is a reforestation and water conservation project in the international township of Auroville, South India. Founded in 2003, we are reforesting 70 acres of severely eroded land to bring back the indigenous Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest. Volunteers come and live on our sustainable, off-grid, solar-powered, low waste, vegan campus. We provide them with food and accommodation and they take part in the community life. Volunteers participate in the water conservation and reforestation work and plant, mulch, and water trees during the season. They also perform maintenance tasks around the community. During their time off they can partake in various community activities or visit the local area.

We also welcome many visitors that come to see our project, host groups of local children in a natural learning space, take care of rescued cows in our vegan animal sanctuary, host a gift economy vegan Tea Hut and self-directed learning courses in our UniverCity of Compassion.

Amazing - incroyable experience

Sadhana is a reforestation programm which share many values important to me. I also experimented a community life with really amazing people from everywhere in the world and who share these values. Sharing, non-violence, solidarity, veganism, unschooling, compassion, tolerance... It's a place where I felt useful and I can be myself. So thank you Sadhana ! And thank you Luke for the mistakes ^^

Unschooling at Sadhana

I am unschooling my daughter in a city. Always been looking for an environment that is sustainable, diverse, ethical, humane and child friendly. And I think Sadhana is the answer to the quest. A beautiful place to get absorbed in. The best thing about Sadhana is the diversity of people who are here which makes the place vibrant. Having tbeen to a lot of alternative places I haven't found one with authority and free of judgments and mainly awesome food. The food that I would want to feed my children.

Sadhana Forest - Living sustainably

I have been in Sadhana Forest India for over 2 months now, and Sadhana Forest Haiti for nearly a year. This is not just a project to grow trees but to also grow people. Seeing how it has inspired myself and many people who visit to follow a far more positive, conscious and compassionate lifestyle, is great to see. A better world is possible and this place is definitely a large step in the right direction.

What would you improve about this program?
They have between 20 to over 120 volunteers at any one time through out the year, if there were even more volunteers, they could plant even more trees!

Amazing experience in Sustainable Living and Ecological Restoration!

This place is a wonderful gem on this earth. Sadhana Forest is more than just the ecological restoration that is done there. It is the collection of all of the great efforts of so many volunteers and the persistent dedication of the Rozin family. The opportunity to volunteer here on a few occasions over the past 5 years has given me an amazing space for doing service, for building community and for having a place that I can always return to and feel at home. Every aspect of life here has been carefully thought through and tweaked over the years. The community is constantly evolving as new ideas are shared and the vision for intentional living becomes sharper and in greater focus. If you are in the area I can't recommend a visit highly enough.

Amazing experience in Sustainable Living and Ecological Restoration!

Come and visit this beautiful project! I appreciate so much the care and coordination that goes into every aspect of life at Sadhana Forest. I learned so much about sustainable living, water conservation and how to successfully restore wildlife to a devastated piece of land. I've visited Sadhana Forest four times over the last 5 years and this place has become a home away from home. The core values of the project challenged me to be a more conscious consumer and to deeply consider what it means to live compassionately and to be a part of a community. I've made long lasting friendships and had the opportunity to grow so much as a person. You will not regret a visit to any one of the Sadhana Forest projects (India, Haiti and Kenya)

Three life changing months

After three months at Sadhana Forest India I did not only feel home, I felt that I’ve arrived. I found out so many things about myself but also about India, planting trees, community life, compassion, animal care, ahimsa... Sadhana Forest is just amazing! They are growing a forest and a lot of people at the same time. The vegan food is so delicious and the spirit of this place is breathtaking. Thank you Sadhana for taking care of the planet.

What would you improve about this program?
