This is a unique volunteering project in that your contribution as a volunteer is three-fold: your volunteering assists with construction and renovation tasks, your fees help to pay for materials, and the end product can then be used to host other important community projects. Volunteers help local building projects that would otherwise not be completed, lending time and funds to see them through to completion. Construction & Renovation

Live Like a Local and Offer Yourself in Service to Needy Communities

My experience with IVHQ was truly top-notch. I was really impressed with the onboarding process (pre-departure) and the flexibility that was offered. In fact, I ended up changing my project type and travel date and this was executed completely seamlessly and at no cost. The program guide and preparation checklist was thorough and really took all of the guess work out of planning for my trip to Cusco, Peru. Finally, once on the ground in Peru, the local team was incredible. Great service, organized, and the project work was the highlight of my trip (Construction/Renovation in underserved communities). I felt like I was really making an impact in a local community. Living with local Peruvians and engaging in daily life as part of my volunteer experience were priceless!

Pros
  • Great pre-departure program guide and preparation checklist
  • Excellent local team customer service and support
  • Incredible choice of projects and opportunity to live like a local (food, daily commute, host family)

Amazing experience!

I had the most amazing experience volunteering with this company! In June, I did a 2 week volunteer trip to Peru for eco-agriculture conservation with my brother and boyfriend. The entire process was so streamlined and simple with the company helping me every step along the way. My problems on this trip (entirely my own doing) ranged from adding extra people to my group to temporarily losing my passport in Peru. The staff went above and beyond and immediately offered their support and helped me figure things out! Can not recommend this experience enough.

Pros
  • Strong support group
  • Streamlined process
  • New experiences

Amazing experience

I had an amazing time volunteering in Peruvian jungle, experiencing the local cultures as well as having a positive impact on the environment. Everything was organised once I got there from picking up from the airport, all travel, food and accommodation. A good variety of tasks including wildlife monitoring, trail maintenance, improvements to the facilitates. Time to relax with the new friends you make too. I added on trips to Machu Picchu and Rainbow mountain which I recommend.
I loved every minute!

Pros
  • All organised for you once you arrive
  • Great way to experience local culture
  • Getting away from the digital world

Jungle Conservation - Peru

I volunteered on the Jungle Conservation project. I had a 2 day orientation in Cusco where I stayed with a host family before traveling to Puerto Maldonado to volunteer in the Peruvian Amazon for 2 weeks. I got to participate in so many environmental conservation projects in the jungle that I would not have the opportunity to do anywhere else. Some of the activities were permaculture, wildlife monitoring, trail maintenance, tropical farming, and sustainable living. This is not for the faint hearted as you will be living off the grid and won't have time to leave the reserve until the volunteering session is over as the location is remote. I saw and learned so much about the wildlife in the rainforest - I will never forget it. I would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend it!

Pros
  • immersed in the Amazon rainforest
  • safe environment
  • really making a positive impact
Cons
  • did not stay long enough

Medical Volunteering in Peru

This was the most amazing experience of my life. I had never traveled alone prior to this trip. IVHQ was very friendly, responded quickly to emails, and provided support every step of the way. On the ground in Peru, the organization Maximo Nivel were equally as great and made me feel safe and welcome. I loved the placement and getting to help the seniors with daily activities and I even got to help with things that nurses don't do much of in the States such as wound irrigation and debridement. This is a trip I will remember forever.

Pros
  • Amazing food
  • Friendly people
  • Beautiful culture
Cons
  • Unreliable wifi
  • Altitude sickness

Volunteer at Peru with IVHQ

First of all, the company made it so easy to navigate their site, programs and completing all of the required steps for you to be ready to go! They are always besides you if you have any questions and they answered as soon as they can. I learned so much from my volunteer at Peru! I learned about their education system, how to work with kids in a more efficient way and how to interact with them, both while learning and having fun, all of these through the childcare program. It was an amazing experience, an experience that I will never forget certainly! During my volunteer program IVHQ actually contacted me to make sure I was ok, enjoying my time and if I needed anything, which I highly appreciated! Over all, IVHQ was the best option and I never regreted it! I will certainly come back for another experience with them!!!

Pros
  • A lot of safety and comfort before, during and after your program
  • They make sure you are alright during your program
  • The service is great! They let you in every detail of your process and answer all questions you may have

Life-Changing

What an experience! Not sure where to start but I lost my husband nearly 2 years ago and I was so lost, I decided to book to go to No 1 on my bucket list Macchu Pichu, but couldn't afford it. Then I found IVHQ and was over the moon, as it was my first time travelling alone. The experience with them and especially Kaila was so helpful from the beginning. I have returned from the experience of a lifetime and I can't recommend IVHQ highly enough. I have come back stronger than ever and I have seen the place of my dreams. I was worried that at 62 I would be out of my depth, but I met some wonderful people with ho I am still in contact. I am hoping to book again soon for another life-changing experience.
Thank you IVHQ

Questions & Answers

Yeah! I actually got there earlier than the program started and went out in Lima on my own. During the program, yes we went out to different bars/discotecas. During the week, however, we had a curfew of 11pm.

There was a wide range of ages! I think you have to be 18 to do this program, and we had 18 year olds, people in their 20s, and we had one or two people in their late 20s/early 30s.

Yes, we can accommodate families on our volunteer programs and our local team can make arrangements to ensure you are accommodated and placed on a project together. To apply to volunteer abroad as a family, one person needs to complete the application process first and select ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Will you be volunteering with a friend, family member or group?’ within the application form. Hi Laurie, according to the IVHQ website, "Volunteers in Lima are accommodated with other volunteers, in either avolunteer house run by a the local coordinator's family or in a homestay." "Volunteers are provided with three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner)." I did an IVHQ program myself and both of those were included in the program.
