About Program
The Mammal Program at Las Piedras Amazon Center monitors the health and diversity of the great abundance of wildlife in the Las Piedras watershed. The research aims to understand the conservation needs of this ecosystem by studying key mammals and maintaining a record of species found. Volunteers help our researchers gather data by conducting transect studies and setting up remote camera traps, many of which capture some of the Amazon's most elusive creatures, such as jaguars. These camera traps are placed both on the forest floor, and high up in the canopy, which is demands a long climb and offers amazing views of the forest. Volunteers will also assist in identifying animals and analyzing GPS data.
