About Program

A volunteering experience with bite! Relocate to the incredible setting of the South African bush for the animal encounter of a lifetime, working closely with the entire spectrum of safari wildlife on a working game reserve. This special program calls for animal lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to join the effort to protect Africa’s iconic big game species through park patrols; predator tracking; species surveys and more.

The Project:

Participants on this volunteering program stay at a private Game Reserve about an hour NE of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. The Reserve was set up on old agricultural land and covers around 6,000 hectares, with a perimeter stretching over 80 km. On this unique project, you live and work at the park, actively helping with the effort to protect endangered species in an area home to all of Africa’s Big 5 - Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants and Cape Buffalo.

South Africa volunteering

South Africa was amazing!!

The private game reserve was amazing to work for, the workers who looked after us benny and Ali G were great!

It met my expectations massively, saw so many wildlife, with opportunities of morning and evening game drives.

Accommodation was great, was always clean, the girls and boys had their own space and showers were good.

I would recommend to others to feel content with working for the reserve and feeling the reward of nature at the same time!

The best bits was going to Jeffrey’s bay the surfing village, I skydived which was fantastic, so happy I got given the chance to do it! Also the hostel was great was looked after and never felt uncomfortable and they organize activities for you daily and you can book a private room if you wish!

During the winter months, the reserve gets very muddy and rainy which limits daily work and transportation to excursions, and the school feeding with children was cancelled because of weather from the previous weeks before I arrived.
