Great experience

Artbound is a super helpful company that I would recommend because they were able to find me a great internship! The process was really smooth and the internship ended up being amazing, especially getting to know everyone there! The experience with them included online training and help from industry experts. I would say that having a resume expert give me feedback on my resume was extremely helpful, as well as getting advice about my portfolio from an actual creative director! It's definitely worthwhile and I would recommend the program if you are struggling to find real life experience in the creative industry.

ABI Review

I liked how much support the ABI team gave me throughout this experience. The online community as well as my supervisors always felt like a reliable source I could go to when I had questions about my internship. The actual placement itself, the part that I was most worried about, went smoothly through their support.

The course that they provide gave me a lot of insight as to what it would be like to work in the industry. Although some of the things in the course seem like common sense, for example: knowing what kind of supervisor you may get, work culture etc; it did help me to think more about what things may actually be like.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
It's important to adapt depending on the work environment that you are placed in. For my work experience, I found that my supervisor gave me a very hands-off approach, where I had to find my own way to be useful as a part of their team. How I was able to overcome this was I tried my best to find my own spot on the workplace that worked harmoniously with everyone.
Pros
  • Cuts out the faffing about of having to find an internship.
  • You have a group of creatives that you can talk to with questions or concerns.
Cons
  • Expensive.

ABI Program & Internship Review

The Artbound Initiative Program has been an invaluable asset in my development as a designer. I first learned about it while studying at university in 2023. Initially skeptical, I was encouraged to join by my peers who had taken the course and by my lecturers, all of whom highly recommended it.

The program's support was greatly helpful. The team provided me lots of information and resources that were instrumental in kickstarting my career, particularly in the early stages of reaching out to companies, promoting my work, and networking. I connected with creative professionals who offered insightful feedback and guidance, which was crucial in my journey.

There were some challenges, such as attracting the attention of well-known studios and agencies in Sydney and Melbourne, and finding suitable accommodation, for which ABI offered minimal assistance. However, I was able to resolve these issues on my own.

Overall, I am grateful for the Artbound Initiative. Without their support, I wouldn't have been able to leverage the skills I gained during my studies or navigate the process of reaching out to design studios and marketing agencies.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
When deciding on a place to find a creative internship, consider your future planning. If you decide to find employment in the location your internship is taking place, spend some time reaching out to small-time companies or agencies that could use your skills. You might need to also save up if you're gonna stay longer in that location.
Pros
  • You get to create a more professional and well-built resume
  • Having the chance to explore and learn in a different culture and environment
  • Making a start in your career
Cons
  • Will take longer for companies to hire you as an intern (based on skills and portfolio)
  • Low chance of getting a paid-internship
  • Will take time adjusting in a new area and culture for a while

An engaging immersive experience into Australia's media landscape

As a multimedia creative, or a jack-of-all-trades, I was always fearful of boxing myself in when it came to pursuing a specific creative role. I didn't want to lose out on refining my skills in one area while devoting all my energy into another. Getting placed into both a design and editorial role for this internship was really great for improving myself holistically and scoping out an industry I felt I could later work in. The work culture and team dynamics were fun and charming, while providing support, direction and guidance where I needed it. I feel that I greatly benefited from this experience and am eager to see what comes of it.

My Internship Experience In Melbourne

Buckle up and get ready for a whirlwind ride through my graphic design internship at Pitch Agency, nestled in the vibrant heart of Melbourne. From Monday to Wednesday, I stepped into a world where pixels met passion, under the seasoned guidance of the agency's creative wizards.

Each day dawned with a burst of creative energy as I delved into tasks tailored to fuel my graphic design prowess. From crafting eye-catching visuals to fine-tuning brand identities, every project was a canvas waiting to be transformed into a masterpiece. Collaborating with seasoned professionals not only honed my skills but also expanded my design horizons, leaving me with a toolkit brimming with fresh techniques and innovative approaches.

But wait, the adventure didn't end within the confines of Pitch Agency's studio walls. The remaining days of the week were a delightful symphony of exploration and discovery as I embarked on a journey to uncover the hidden gems of Melbourne. From the iconic laneways adorned with vibrant street art to the lush greenery of the Royal Botanic Gardens, each corner of this eclectic city whispered tales of creativity and inspiration.

As I navigated through Melbourne's maze of culture and charm, I found myself soaking in not just its sights but also its spirit. Every alleyway, every café, and every encounter fueled my imagination, infusing my design work with a newfound depth and richness.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
It's simple really, just do it, out yourself out there and be confident. In the beginning I was a bit nervous but over the days I overcame it by being more open and talking to people. The people in Melbourne are really friendly and helpful.

Fun experience - I learnt a lot!

This program is truly beneficial if you lack relevant experience in the creative industry that you want to work for! Although the program fee is more on the pricey side, it can be a good investment to get your foot in the door. You also get exclusive access to the ABI network which can be useful for future-job seeking.
The ABI team was lovely and helped me land an internship that opened many other doors for me. I’d highly recommend for students who are looking to gain work experience in a different country :)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t leave accomodation to the last minute, especially if you’re doing the program in Australia! The housing crisis is real :0
Pros
  • Work experience with great companies
  • Learning about new cultures
  • Helpful team that will support you throughout
Cons
  • Fee and cost of living
  • Internships have a high chance of being unpaid
  • No guarantee of full time offer after internship

An Unforgettable Journey

As an undergraduate, the ArtBound Initiative served as a bridge between theory and practice. It offered an authentic glimpse into the professional world, where classroom concepts are applied in real-time scenarios. For prospective participants, I recommend embracing the unfamiliar. Stepping out of comfort zones facilitates growth and learning. Even if we fall, we are falling forward. Patience and resilience are key as challenges will pave the way for rewarding experiences. We will never know what happens next in our journey. Engaging with the culture and people we meet will enrich the journey, fostering a broader perspective. Embracing change and seizing every learning opportunity will help us become better people.

Pros
  • Building your resume
  • Improving practical skills in a real-time scenario
  • Getting to know more about the creative industry

The beginning of a new chapter...

During my three-month internship at Picos, arranged through the ArtBound Initiative, I had an amazing time. Thanks to ArtBound Initiative, I gained valuable digital marketing experience while exploring a new city.

During my internship, I gained a deep understanding of the digital marketing industry and applied my skills in a professional environment. One of the best parts of my experience was the mentorship I received from my colleagues. They were knowledgeable and supportive, providing guidance and feedback throughout my time at the agency. They challenged me to think critically and creatively, which helped me develop my skills and knowledge in the field.

Working on real-world projects gave me hands-on experience in the industry, and I was able to make meaningful contributions to the agency and I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a talented and supportive team.

Overall, my internship at Picos, arranged through the ArtBound Initiative, was a valuable learning experience that allowed me to gain practical skills and knowledge in the digital marketing industry.

Pros
  • Industry experience
  • Living and working away from home in a new city
  • Creating networks that will provide future opportunities
Cons
  • Time commitments were sometimes difficult to manage
  • Lack of meet ups with other ArtBound Initiative students
