CEA CAPA Prague

I absolutely loved my experience in Prague! The classes I took lined up perfectly with my interests and major requirements. My internship was an amazing way to get international work experience and it solidified my desire to attend law school in the future. I made so many friends through CEA CAPA that I still keep in contact with. Whether it was exploring the city of Prague, trying new restaurants, or traveling to new countries, I have stories to last me for decades! I am so grateful to CEA CAPA for affording me this experience.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-wracking moment was traveling solo for the first time. I dived head-first into the weekend, and I made sure to keep myself busy with activities and food places to try. I am so glad I overcame this fear and I cannot wait to do it again!
Pros
  • Traveling
  • Independence
  • Time Management
Cons

Internship-Study in Prague

This past semester, I studied abroad in Prague and participated in an internship. Although the housing could have been better - broken things and such - the experience overall was fantastic. I loved my internship and all of the friends I made. I even made some quality connections with people at my home university. Prague itself is great. It is clean, historical, and exciting. Some of the best experiences were the ones already included in the program. The excursions and group activities, namely Cesky Krumlov and the river architecture tour, were amazing.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be shy! This is a great time to go out of your comfort zone every day and try something new. Personally, I did not always enjoy super traditional Czech food, but their large assortment of Vietnamese food was delicious. There really is something for everyone, you don't even have to look that hard.
Pros
  • Cultural

  • Educational
Cons
  • The housing had some issues

Magnificent Internship Experience Abroad with CEA CAPA!

My experience with CEA CAPA in Prague was amazing! Throughout the entire experience, CEA CAPA was extremely supportive, especially with preparing you to travel and offering their services and help whenever you need it once you arrive in Prague. The internship itself was very rewarding-- CEA CAPA matched me with a company that matched my career goals and allowed me to develop a lot of key and transferable skills that I can use in any job in the future, and helped me find a new interest in a new field. Additionally, it allowed me to create an extremely valuable network abroad and while interacting with other interns from America and Prague.

The thing I liked the most about the program is how intentionally designed it is to help you succeed. You'll get an internship advisor very early into the process that will communicate and answer any questions that you have about the program, and you also take an internship class designed to help you reflect on what you've learned by living and working abroad.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I think the most unfamiliar thing I ate was goulash. Czech goulash is a thick, hearty stew flavored primarily with paprika and often served with knedliky (slices of spongy, bread-like dumplings). It comprises big chunks of beef meat in a thick onion-based gravy and is a staple of Czech cuisine. There are variations, depending on the stew you want and the meat you use. It was so different from any US good I had- it was light and delicious at the same time!
Pros
  • Learned how to adapt on my own
  • Learned a lot of good professional and life skills
  • Made a lot of new friends through the program

Abroad in Prague- 100% Do it

This past summer, I had the amazing opportunity to intern at a law firm in Prague. I was able to immerse myself in a legal environment, learn about Czech law and government procedure, explore the beautiful city of Prague, grow in my cultural and global awareness, and travel all around Europe. This was such a transformative experience that I would choose to do it over and over again. The growth you experienced both professionally and personally is so amazing. You get further your academic or career aspirations while also learning about yourself and growing in ways you otherwise wouldn't have had you not taken this opportunity. This experience was truly life-changing for me, and I would encourage anyone and everyone to do it.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make the most of every day. It goes by so fast, and regardless of how much you do or see, there will always be more on your bucket list. It can be overwhelming at times, but make the most of whatever you're doing and write it down in a journal so you always have those memories to look back on.
Pros
  • Traveling to beautiful and amazing places
  • Meeting people from all around the world
  • Personal and professional growth
Cons
  • Can feel overwhelming at times
  • Finances
  • Homesickness

I had a blast interning in Prague!

This summer I had the incredible chance to intern abroad in Prague with CEA CAPA, and it turned into one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

What made it so special were the people I met along the way. I’d run into people on walks through the parks or while traveling, and before long we’d be sitting down for dinner, talking about life, business, and everything in between. I even joined pick-up basketball games with locals, which became one of the best ways to connect outside of work.

I interned at Zentiva, a pharmaceutical company in Prague, where I got hands-on experience working in a corporate environment. The team was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and I learned so much about how business operates internationally. A fun bonus was the cafeteria in Zentiva’s headquarters – tasty meals at prices that can’t be beat.

Outside of work, I made the most of every weekend by traveling. I was able to explore Berlin, Vienna, London, Budapest, Milan, and so many more amazing places. Each city left me with new stories, perspectives, and friendships.

If there’s one thing I always tell people about my time abroad, it’s to try everything you can while you’re there. Say yes to the experiences, even the small ones, because once it’s over, those memories are what stay with you.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I tried a boar goulash in prague, and it was one of the tastiest goulash dishes I had in Prague! I also really enjoyed the potato pancakes with the goulash!
Pros
  • Grew better at communication
  • Became Better at time management
  • Became more independent and good at figuring stuff out
Cons
  • No AC, but the weather wasn't too hot during the summer
  • No Dryers, but drying clothes on hangers was easy and quick
  • I just missed my family

Most Underrated, Most Loved City on Earth

CEA CAPA's Study + Internship program positively impacted not only my education, but also my career, confidence, and cultural intelligence. The program matched me with a company in an industry that I didn't have experience in, but it made it all the more fun to work with. They were beyond receptive to an American student working for them and made sure that my experience was perfect. I have never cried while leaving an internship (an unpaid one, mind you), and I did when I left this one, simply because of how great it was to work there. This internship assisted me in developing relevant soft skills (as well as technical ones essential to the role, of course) that I'll definitely use as I prepare to pursue a career internationally post-grad.

The classes themselves were much more tangible and there was barely any homework, ever. I loved how I was able to take classes both at CEA and the partner university I was studying through. The only thing that I wish I had done more research on was that everyone that I had class with, both at CEA's facility as well as the partner institution, were all other Americans.

Also, Prague in itself is other-worldly. Even my friends who were studying in other countries won't stop talking about how great Prague is and how it is such a fun city. It also kinda makes me feel cool when I say that I studied in Praha and everyone just gushes about how awesome it is, because it is! Everyone goes to Barcelona, Florence, Madrid.... go somewhere off the beaten path!!! You will absolutely love it.

What was your funniest moment?
My friend and I were taking a Flixbus to Krakow and I put my backpack under the bus because it didn't fit under the seat. Of course, I left my passport in there. When we crossed the border from Czech to Poland, the border patrol (!!!) came on to our bus, asking for passports. When they got to me, I said "passport" and then shrugged my shoulders and pointed under the bus. They asked if I was from the USA, I said yes, and one of them replied "Ohhhhh! Donald Trump!" and laughed. They waved it off and moved on to the next person.

Europe's Hidden Gem!

I absolutely loved my time in Prague. It was the cleanest, safest, most accessible and beautiful city I've ever been to-- and it was extremely affordable! It truly is the center of Europe, it is so multicultural and easy to travel to other places. There is always something to do (and eat), no matter what kind of activities you like! My internship and classes focused on politics and communication, and I feel like focusing on those things allowed me to learn more about the city and country, and connect with where I was on a deeper later.

Pros
  • Extremely accessible, both financially and geographically!
  • So many sites and excursions, truly something for everyone
Cons
  • Class/workload time and internship hours could be overwhelming
  • Autumn and winter weather was very harsh (not much daylight, pretty cold, etc.)

Study + Internship in the Heart of Europe

In an extensive matching process, the CEA CAPA team paired me with an internship that would further my career. The internship cohort, as well as the staff, was incredibly helpful and often leaned on each other for advice and networking. The work-life balance was perfect because the staff was so understanding.

Located in the center of Europe, the location was prime for meeting other students abroad. Czech culture is welcoming and very open to foreigners! The standard of living is quite affordable compared to neighboring countries so food and groceries were not an issue! Would highly recommend pursuing an internship abroad through CEA!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I'd advise future travelers to stay in hostels! For a fraction of the price of hotels and Airbnbs, you have the opportunity to meet other travelers and potential life-long friends!
