Diversity & Inclusion

Today, and every day, we celebrate who you are and who you will become. We take pride in simply getting to know you, and look forward to adventuring through this incredible world with you.

Studying abroad as part of the LGBTQIA+ community can present unique opportunities and challenges in exploring a new culture, so we have compiled resources on sexual orientation, gender identity, and allyship to help prepare you and support you along the way.
Going abroad, whether this is your first time or your umpteenth, can be a trip both literally and figuratively. Seeing something new or being someplace unfamiliar has its own challenges, especially when it comes to mental health and physical accessibility. With IES Abroad, you won't handle these concerns on your own.

We have not only compiled resources on mental health, physical health, and self-care to help prepare you and support you along the way, but we also have a dedicated Student Affairs staff that are available for you to contact from the United States and once in your host country.

Our program guarantees an internship placement at a local business or organization where you’ll work at least 25 hours per week. We've placed Paris interns in fields such as the arts, business, and tourism, while also showing them the sights and sounds of France. You will also enroll in a required 3- or 6-credit academic internship seminar with other IES interns, where you’ll gain context for the internship placement by examining cultural issues in the workplace.

Life Changing Experience

I had an amazing time studying abroad with IES Internship Abroad! There was a lot of paperwork and tasks needed to get done before departing, however IES made it easy to organize myself by having a list of tasks and their due dates. They also held orientations that were helpful, covering topics around housing, safety, etc. They did their best to match me with a job that fit my major and other preferences, and they also did a good job assigning me to a great homestay in which I practiced my French lot. On top of that, they held excursions to visit other parts of Paris, which was a great way to explore more the farther parts of Paris and meeting others in the program. In the end, my French improved a lot, I was able to step out of my comfort zone which improved my confidence, and I left with great memories with lifelong friends!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
When I went abroad, I wanted to continue to exercise and go to the gym so I decided to get a two month gym membership. So I went to one of the gyms IES recommended to me, and in french was able to sign myself up and get a tour of the gym. I was nervous about signing up for a membership in French, but it was so great and the guy who helped me was friendly and understanding!
Pros
  • Excursions to explore Paris and meet other students in the program
  • Paid for my metro card to get around the city.
  • Matched me with a great company and got to do a lot of cool work!
Cons
  • Classes were right after work for two hours from Monday through Thursday.
  • First day orientation was for about 6 hours.
