My Highschool Marine Biology Internship Review

I had been researching internship programs for students when, fortunately, I came across Intern Abroad HQ. Through this internship, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation, where my supervisor, Ms. Silvia, and I worked together very effectively. I was able to focus on refining my skills in identifying marine organisms based on their physical characteristics, as well as learning about various habitats. Furthermore, I gained practical experience in assessing community biodiversity through hands-on application. Although we encountered minor scheduling conflicts during the process, everything proceeded smoothly thanks to effective communication. Consequently, this internship not only helped me enhance desired skills, such as species identification and data analysis, but also taught me how to communicate effectively when working with a partner.

One crucial point that future interns should keep in mind is the need to recognize that this is a program of high responsibility. You must always take initiative regarding your assigned tasks and upcoming schedules, and complete them to the best of your ability; these are fundamental skills that will serve as a foundation for your future professional career.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
It was my first meeting with my supervisor. Since there was a significant time zone difference between us, I had agreed to wake up quite early to attend the meeting in order to accommodate her schedule. However, being unaccustomed to the early hour, I inadvertently overslept and kept her waiting for quite a while. I was quite panicked when I realized I had missed our appointment, but I quickly regained my composure and contacted her immediately to apologize and reschedule the meeting. Fortunately, she was very understanding.
Pros
  • efficient communication
  • clear task prompt and percise goal
  • Well support from the organization
Cons
  • Timezone difference
  • It may takes a little long to respond for contacts due to time difference

A Transformative Mentorship with Leona at Women of Substance

My remote internship through Intern Abroad HQ with Women of Substance in Trinidad and Tobago was far more impactful than I initially expected. What stood out most was that this experience was not just about completing tasks — it was about contributing to meaningful, community-centered work that supports women navigating marital, family, and financial challenges.

From the beginning, the application process was smooth, structured, and well-communicated. The Intern Abroad HQ team provided clear guidance, realistic expectations, and helpful pre-departure (remote) preparation materials. I always felt supported and knew where to turn if I had questions.

What made this internship truly great, however, was the quality of collaboration and the purpose behind the work. As a remote intern, I worked closely with my supervisor to brainstorm and develop culturally relevant educational programs tailored to women in the Caribbean context. I was encouraged to contribute ideas, think critically, and approach program development with cultural sensitivity. Rather than being assigned repetitive tasks, I was treated as a valued contributor.

This experience strengthened my cross-cultural communication skills, adaptability, and professional confidence. Designing educational materials in a context different from my own required humility, active listening, and thoughtful engagement. I learned that real impact begins with understanding lived experiences rather than imposing assumptions.

Women of Substance is doing an excellent job of centering their programs around community realities. Their work is empathetic, mission-driven, and socially impactful. Even as a remote intern, I could clearly see the long-term vision behind their initiatives.

In terms of value for money, the internship provided professional development, international exposure, and practical experience that would be difficult to gain independently. The structure, support, and credibility of Intern Abroad HQ add significant value.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing about my internship was realizing how impactful remote work can be when it is rooted in purpose. Before starting, I assumed that being physically distant might limit the depth of my contribution. However, I was surprised by how collaborative, thoughtful, and meaningful the experience became.

One particularly memorable moment was during a brainstorming session where we were designing educational content tailored specifically to women in Trinidad and Tobago. I initially approached the discussion with general empowerment frameworks, but I quickly realized how important it was to adapt ideas to cultural context, social dynamics, and real-life constraints. That shift in perspective — from creating “good content” to creating culturally sensitive and realistic support — was eye-opening. It changed how I think about impact work entirely.
Pros
  • The internship was purpose-driven. I felt like the work I was contributing to could genuinely support women facing real-life challenges.
  • Working remotely with an organization in Trinidad and Tobago strengthened my cross-cultural communication skills and adaptability.
  • My supervisor encouraged discussion, respected my input, and treated me as a valued contributor rather than just an intern completing tasks.
Cons
  • Because the internship was remote, building rapport and fully understanding community dynamics required extra effort.
  • Scheduling meetings across different time zones sometimes required flexibility.
  • At the beginning, I had to invest time in understanding the specific social and cultural realities shaping the programs.

Life Changing

This was such an incredible experience! Intern Abroad HQ allowed me to experience what my field of interest would be like as a profession, and gave me a multitude of important skills along the way! I am more confident in my leadership capabilities, have a clearer plan for the future, and have new connections in my desired career field. Intern Abroad HQ connected me with an established scientist whose profession is very similar to what I wish to pursue in the future. Over the course of 8 weeks, I was given a multitude of assignments and projects that were not only engaging, but incredibly useful and insightful. Truly an amazing program!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
One of my assignments was to analyze a dataset that I previously collected using the coding platform R Studios. Unfortunately, that assignment coincided with Finals week at my high school, so I essentially had to learn how to navigate and use R Studios while also maintaining my grades in school. Luckily, I managed to do so with the support and understanding of my supervisor!
Pros
  • New experiences
  • Educational challenges
  • Networking opportunities
Cons
  • Stressful situations
  • Time-zone differences
  • Tech difficulties

Professional and personal growth through clinical psychology internship

What I enjoyed most about the remote Clinical Psychology internship was how it became a meaningful part of my weekly routine. Every Saturday morning, watching the sunrise and joining the sessions provided both mental stimulation and a sense of purpose. The structure—from introductions to ongoing check-ins and the final review—made learning feel natural and engaging. The content was extremely useful, generously shared, and covered updated and practical topics applicable to future work in psychology. I learned to integrate knowledge into practice, consider multiple perspectives, respect cultural differences, and work effectively with patients as well as their families or support systems. The internship strengthened my professionalism, empathy, confidentiality, organisational skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability, contributing significantly to my personal and professional growth. What made this experience truly exceptional was my supervisor. She is not only incredibly knowledgeable and detail-oriented but also genuinely passionate about teaching and supporting her students. Her positive attitude, warmth, and encouragement created a judgment-free environment where I always felt comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas. My supervisor challenged my inner blockages, inspired me to push beyond my limits, and made learning enjoyable even during intense or serious work. Over time, I came to see her as both a mentor and a friend, whose guidance and energy profoundly shaped my growth and deepened my passion for psychology.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I were to change one thing about the internship, it would simply be to experience it live in India. The content, the structure, the organisation, and the professionalism of the online format were all excellent, and I truly valued how smooth and effective the remote experience was. My curiosity and admiration, along with the genuine bond and respect I developed for my supervisor, are what make me wish I could have attended in person.

Review of Online Developmental Psychology Internship

I completed an online internship based in India focused on developmental psychology. My main role involved watching recorded sessions and writing detailed analytical reports, which strengthened my observation, critical thinking, and report-writing skills. The internship was well-organised, and communication with the coordinators was quick and efficient, which made the experience smooth and accessible. However, there was limited direct interaction with clients or live sessions, which I feel could be improved to provide more practical, hands-on experience and opportunities for skill application.

What would you improve about this program?
One area for improvement would be including more opportunities for direct interaction with clients or live sessions, as this would enhance practical experience and interpersonal skills. Additionally, varying the tasks rather than focusing solely on writing reports for myself multiple times a day, could make the experience more dynamic and engaging.
Pros
  • Quick and efficient communication
  • Gained strong observation and report-writing skills
  • Deepened understanding of developmental psychology
Cons
  • Limited direct interaction with clients
  • Repetitive tasks (mainly writing reports for myself)
  • No opportunities to apply skills in live or collaborative settings

Incredible Remote Internship – Real Impact, Real Growth

My remote internship with Intern Abroad HQ was an incredibly rewarding and eye-opening experience! From the very first week, my coordinator and the local team made me feel supported, valued, and part of something meaningful. The projects I worked on weren’t just “busy work” — they were real, impactful contributions to ongoing initiatives that directly benefit the community.

One of the highlights was collaborating on creative media and reporting projects that showcased the organization’s work. Even though we were on opposite sides of the world, the team maintained clear, consistent communication through weekly Zoom calls and regular updates. I always felt comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and taking ownership of my tasks.

This experience challenged me to think critically, adapt to new ways of working, and build skills I know will be valuable in my future career — especially in communications, cross-cultural teamwork, and nonprofit support. It was inspiring to see the dedication and passion the local team has, and I left with not only professional growth but also a deeper appreciation for meaningful change.

I would 100% recommend this program to anyone looking for a meaningful, flexible, and enriching remote internship. I am 17 years old and this was my very first internship, and I couldn't be more grateful for this experience. I truly recommend to all ages and typed of people - as it is an opportunity to gain real-world experience while contributing to a cause that truly matters.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice for future interns (specifically younger) is to go into this program with an open mind and a willingness to adapt — the more you embrace new ways of working and communicating, the more you’ll get out of it. Stay proactive about asking questions when you need clarity, and make the most of your coordinator’s experience and guidance. Organize your time well so you can fully commit to your tasks without feeling overwhelmed. Most importantly, remember that your work is contributing to something bigger — so take pride in every project, big or small. The more effort and creativity you put in, the more meaningful and rewarding the experience will be. Enjoy it!!
Pros
  • Flexible schedule that allows for balancing other commitments
  • Real, impactful projects that contribute to meaningful community work
  • Opportunities to develop professional and cross-cultural communication skills
Cons
  • Time zone differences can make scheduling challenging
  • Communication through messaging apps can feel overwhelming at times
  • Some tasks require more independent problem-solving without immediate answers

Intern abroad internship- Remote in USA

Intern Abroad found me an internship I really enjoyed doing! All my conditions that I wanted were met and the company that I did my internship with (New York Habitat) was also very good. I wanted to do a remote legal internship in the USA, and although I did not have much legal experience, Intern Abroad still ensured I had an internship that allowed me to build ok my legal skills. The support I received from Intern Abroad was also great. I could always reach out via email and even had support during my interview. Although it may seem expensive, I definitely thought the experience was worth it.

Remote internship for dolphin conservation

My remote internship was a highly valuable and enriching experience that allowed me to contribute meaningfully to bottlenose dolphin research. My supervisor was incredibly supportive, patient, and provided clear, constructive guidance throughout the project. The structured workflow and consistent feedback helped me stay engaged and feel like an integral part of the team, despite working remotely. This experience not only enhanced my technical skills—particularly in data analysis and research methods—but also deepened my understanding of how impactful conservation work can be. It has inspired me to continue developing in this field and to actively seek opportunities where I can contribute to wildlife conservation efforts.
