Internship Success!

I was very excited to go abroad and study in Ireland, but with the effects of Covid-19, my plant changed. It still ended up being such an incredible experience that I would not take back for anything. I loved the start-up company that I worked for in Barcelona called, Ecolocal Market, and am so glad I had this opportunity. The founders of Ecolocal who I worked with were incredible and very helpful in helping integrate into the company for the summer. I would not have wanted to be paired with anyone else. I even decided to stay on past the internship date to help them more! If you are on the fence about doing an abroad experience with Global Experiences (GE) do not hesitate and go for it! I had an amazing time with a completely virtual experience, so I know that an in-person experience would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-wracking thing was feeling confused and a little behind due to the time difference and the complete online experience. There was several times, where I would stay up very late just to make sure that things were done at the proper time for Spain. I know this wasn't required, but it felt important to me. I really struggled at times with feeling like I wasn't doing enough or wasn't completely in the loop, but I realized that my team understood that and was willing to be flexible and accomdating. This was very encouraging and I couldn't have gotten a better placement. This opportunity, while it was a challenge, was something that really helped pushed me out of my comfort zones and made me more confident in myself. I am so glad I had this opportunity, thank you Global Experiences!

Amazing Opportunity!

I really enjoyed my experience in Global Experiences and everything I was able to learn while being supported by the amazing staff. Something I always looked forward to and loved was meetings and activities scheduled for us to tune into where we got the opportunity to connect virtually and feel motivated as others are on the same boat on interning from home. Learning about work cultures from across the world, adjusting to working from home, and professional/personal development sessions kept me inspired along the journey. As my internship was abroad and being able to connect in virtual platforms it gave me the ability to learn and apply skills that will forever be valuable in everything I do.

Amazing program

The most notable aspect of this program was the Global Experiences staff. Beginning with the application process and continuing throughout the length of my internship, the staff were extraordinarily helpful and caring. They were there to answer any and every question, and they offered advice and activities designed to advance my professional skills and build long-lasting connections. The program gave me an incredibly valuable experience during an otherwise uncertain summer and built skills which will be useful for the rest of my professional life.

Great internship-gained a lot of valuable experience!

My experience this summer as a virtual intern was rewarding and allowed me to gain valuable experience I would otherwise not have had, both within the internship itself and in adapting to the virtual setting. The Global Experiences team did a great job of quickly adjusting the program once it became clear that in-person internships would no longer be possible, and they provided remote-work training that will surely prove useful in future positions. Despite the challenges, they were still able to place me with a state senator from New York which gave me the government/political experience I wanted. They also continued to provide the international experience portion of the internship that they are known for by holding virtual events such as cooking classes, virtual city tours, and conversations with international business owners. It's safe to say that Global Experiences will provide you a great experience regardless of the circumstances!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice for future participants would be to stay open minded and flexible because things out of your control may change suddenly! The GE team is really good at being able to adapt, as this summer proved, but you need to be as well. Don't necessarily get set on a single plan for how everything will go because chances are there will be some changes along the way.

A truly wonderful experience!

My time with my host company Olmec, based in the UK, was a wonderful experience to say the least. While I was originally supposed to be living and working in the city of London, this virtual program Global Experiences has put together was phenomenal and still very much provided me with new skills, experiences, as well as a whole new network of people I got to learn from and work with everyday this past summer. Overall, definitely worth while, I could not say better things about Global Experiences and their professionalism throughout the entire process!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I would say this was when I would sit in on meetings with participants in our employability programs; seeing people be vulnerable and honest about their life struggles was refreshing while also nerve-wracking in the sense of trying to aid them in the best way possible. This challenge motivated me to be the best worker possible because I knew the end result would massively benefit the people in our programs to the best of my ability; it was a priceless experience to say the least!

Meaningful and fun experience

My virtual internship with Global Experiences exceeded my expectations. I was placed with a company that is closely related to my passions and GE gave me all the support. Besides that, the meetings with Global Experiences staff were surprisingly fun and insightful! I also had the chance to connect with other interns.
I wholeheartedly believe this experience had a very positive impact on my career prospects and I can barely believe how much I've learned in 8 weeks, even though I did not even leave my house.

Bets experience ever!

I thought this was an amazing experience I got to learn and work with a company in Italy. I helped work on their marketing team and work on their marketing platform. I also got to advertise in the United States for them on a crowdfunding project. I thought it was incredible and helped me network and meet new people. All the staff are so nice and help guide you through everything at Global Experience. They make sure you are well prepared and always are staying in contact. This was a 10 out of 10 internship and I would never take it back.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The language barrier was nerve-racking at first, but I just always tried to communicate and make sure everything was right before submitting assignments.

Passion makes a difference!

Everyone I met and talked with at GE Virtuoso and Global Experiences genuinely cares about their participants and the work they are engaged in- its incredible! I felt so taken care of throughout the experience- from first email exchanges to interview prep to check ins to culture seminars! I was matched with a wonderful non-profit organization in Ireland, and I felt so welcome and at home there (even just through a virtual internship)- so much so that I plan to go back and work for them in the future. I feel like my work actually helped people, and I am grateful for everything I learned.

What was your funniest moment?
Comparing our backyard gardens- being in California, I had tomatoes, zucchinis, and strawberries, and my contact person in Ireland had potatoes and hearty vegetables! It was an endearingly funny moment
