At Keats School we individualize each lesson by developing curricula that matches the students proficiency level and goals. Teachers speak standard Mandarin and are fluent in English. The methods and different activities that we use at Keats will maximize the amount that a student learns in the time they study Chinese here.

Keats review

I spent 6 weeks for one-on-one at Keats School with Pi Laoshi. Overall I am satisfied with the school, but the best part about the school is definitely the teachers. Outgoing, patient and dedicated are what I would describe them, especially my Laoshi.

A typical a day of class includes 4-hours, which usually begin by me typing up a one-paragraph story of whatever experience I had (like what I did yesterday or on the weekends); then the teacher will correct my mistakes and highlight the correct versions. Often we would branch off the topics we were discussing, allowing us to stumble upon new words, which is a technique I very much like as it emphasizes real-life practical words over HSK bookish vocabulary. Throughout the entire class, my Laoshi would speak to me in Mandarin and only use English when explaining. We also practiced some HSK listening and vocab. At the end of each lessons, my Laoshi would point out new words I learned each day and have me write up Anki cards, which I found to be very effective at memorizing and being able to read.

Was a great experience; I learned about 800 new words in a span of 6 weeks, which went beyond my expectation. 10/10 would recommend

The best way to learn Chinese

I undertook a one week, one-on-one Chinese intensive course in Shanghai with Keats. Little did I know I was the first student at their Shanghai branch - the whole experience was so immaculately planned that it felt like they had been running this for years!

My teacher, 李宏运老师, was highly capable and engaging. I learnt an immense amount from our lessons, not just about the Chinese language but also about Chinese history, culture and current affairs. Every afternoon, she accompanied me to go sightseeing in Shanghai and try delicious Shanghainese cuisine, which made the whole experience more fun. She was incredibly thoughtful and accomodating, and it felt like I always had a friend by my side.

The accomodation was clean, central and highly convenient, being in the same building as our classes. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you Keats team, and I hope to return soon!

Great Course, Outstanding Teacher

I’ve had 4 amazing weeks with Pi laoshi. My goal was to progress as quickly as possible. She adjusted the course to exactly fit my demands and we managed to finish about 1/3 of the HSK6 curriculum.
Pi laoshi was extremely diligent in the preparation and post-processing of the materials. Everyday she prepared between 40-60 pages of material. I oapologize for causing her more work than other students 😉.

Will definitely either be back or take more online classes with Keats.
All in all a great experience mainly thanks to the amazing teacher.

My KEATS Kunming Experience

I studied at KEATS school in Kunming for 5 weeks, doing one-on-one lessons with Pi Laoshi (皮老师), 20 hours per week.

Being my first time in China, I found it highly convenient that I could live onsite, in the same place as my classes, and so central in the city; the school is surrounded by amazing food places, markets, activities and shopping. All of these are, of course, diverse and interesting language practise opportunities.

As part of the one-on-one classes, my teacher regularly took me on excursions to explore Kunming, each with an accompanying language lesson to link learning to hands-on experience. I had so much fun!

皮老师 also always ensured I had daily class notes and vocabulary lists, immortalising the learning and teachings we were doing, and providing fantastic references for study. She truly is the best- she was always kind, patient, fun- certainly multitalented, teaching me Chinese songs as she played on guitar! Lessons with her were always dynamic, engaging, informative and enriching, and I am beyond grateful she was my teacher. Furthermore, we've stayed in touch and become good friends, showing how genuinely she cares about her students.

The school held weekly excursions to cultural sites around Kunming, providing opportunities to bond and practice with other students, as well as get local insight into the area.

The immersive linguistic and cultural environment, paired with an incredible teacher and a small community of enthusiastic language learners, meant that my Chinese improved incredibly quickly.

My teacher, in particular, was amazing at making learning fun and tailored to my needs, providing cultural context, and helping me improve quickly.

I highly recommend KEATS, but especially 皮老师!

Great HSK prep!

Keats Chinese Language School offers an immersive and highly effective learning environment. Their small class sizes ensure personalized attention, while the teachers are both qualified and exceptionally engaging. The curriculum balances structured grammar with practical conversation, rapidly building confidence in real-world scenarios. Beyond the classroom, cultural activities enrich the understanding of the language's context. The Kunming location provides a pleasant, authentic setting for study. Although the intensive courses require dedication, the progress is undeniable. For serious students seeking fluency, Keats represents a worthwhile investment, combining academic rigor with a supportive community. Highly recommended for its professional and results-driven approach.

What was your funniest moment?
When we went out to study it was very windy and the wind blew away our study materials and tea.

Keats School Review

I really enjoyed my second stay at Keats. This time, I stayed for four weeks. My teacher 邓老师 was amazing, she helped me make a lot of progress towards my goal of passing the HSK 5 exam. During class, there was always a great balance of learning new content and having fun, and she was very knowledgeable and could always answer my questions. While I was studying at the school, I always felt like I only needed to focus on attending class and revising content, which was exactly what I wanted. The school also organised activities within Kunming during the week, and weekend excursions to popular tourist destinations and nearby cities. I really enjoyed my stay in Kunming, and intend to come back next year.

First time in China

Merci Du laoshi ☺️

English:
My arrival in China was an adventure in itself! Just so you know, two hours for the transfer to Beijing is nowhere near enough!

Upon arrival, I found a bowl of noodle soup and a bottle of water in my room, along with all the necessary information. I appreciated the thoughtful touch.

My first week at Keats was intense. I had initially opted for six hours a day, but I quickly changed my mind. Four hours is much more pleasant; it leaves time to work and explore the city.

I loved learning with Du laoshi; she was so patient with me. She knew how to combine learning with enjoyment, and with a fun mix of games and theory, she kept me motivated every day.

With her, I discovered unusual places: private video game rooms, ghost markets, and gained a better understanding of the blend of modernity and antiquity that I saw every day.

She was always kind and ready to help or answer all my questions about the Chinese language or society.

It's mainly thanks to her that I enjoyed my stay in Kunming. The city itself is very pleasant, calm, and relaxing.

The outings and activities organized by the school are of high quality and truly enjoyable. The entire teaching staff is dedicated to our well-being and is very caring.

I met some wonderful people during this very enriching month! I highly recommend it.

Merci Du laoshi ☺️

Kunming’s experience

I found Kunming very interesting. My Chinese has improved a lot. The Chinese classes were fun and helpful, and I'd like to learn more about Chinese culture and cuisine. My favorite is mushroom hot pot. If I have the opportunity in the future, I'd like to come back to Kunming to continue improving my Chinese. I felt the school environment was quite good, and my teachers helped me a lot. Kunming has many beautiful places, such as Baofeng Park. Yunnan also has many kinds of fruit, and I love strawberries the most. The strawberries here are big and sweet. My teacher and I went to the market and saw many fresh fruits. There were many fruits I had never seen before. This is my life in Kunming.
