Keats School - Chengdu

I first started studying at Keats in 2024. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to come back in 2025 to study at the Chengdu campus.

The Chengdu campus is clean and beautifully decorated. The food is also amazing with a good variety that changes daily.

The best thing about Keats is its teachers. I'm very grateful to my teacher, Su 老师, who I studied with for a month. She was extremely patient and flexible with her study methods, focusing on the skills that I wanted. I enjoyed every class with her as she is extremely knowledgeable in many areas, including Chinese history so I got to learn about that too. We even went on a weekend trip to Chongqing!

When you study at Keats, you also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in cultural activities such as traditional art or visiting temples. Thank you to Claire, the activity/life coordinator, who arranged these events for us.

You also get to meet people from all around the world who you would never have the opportunity to meet in your everyday life!

I really hope to have the opportunity to study with Keats again in 2026! A big thank you again to Su 老师 and Claire!

1-on-1 Chinese Language Course

Short duration with great opportunities to polish your Chinese language skills!
I joined a 1-week, 1-on-1 Chinese class at Keats, and it was an amazing experience. The personalized lessons helped me significantly improve my speaking skills in a short time. What makes Keats special is that learning doesn’t stop in the classroom—you also have plenty of free time to practice Chinese in real-life situations and explore the beautiful city of Kunming. Highly recommended for anyone looking to boost their Chinese quickly and effectively!

Went Far Beyond High School

I had recently just gotten out of high school and had a full gap year ahead of me with nothing planned, so I decided to come to china based on my love of the food and my experience in Chinese class from high school (which I didn't learn too much from). I can successfully say that I am walking out of this school with far beyond what I expected of myself language wise. Very happy with my lovely teacher and all my great friends I made here. Kunming is also a really laid back cool town that offers a much different (and better) experience than the other cities. Please consider Keats school in Kunming.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Stay longer probably. I'm leaving tomorrow and already know I'm going to miss it

I should have stayed longer.

It was a pleasant surprise to discover Keats. I joined the 1:1 class, and I feel that the biggest advantage of studying at Keats is that the teacher tailors the learning materials not only to your level but also to your goals and interests. I also learned a lot about the everyday lifestyle of people in Kunming and China’s pop culture from my wonderful teacher, Ms. Wang. Her delivery was so engaging that every lesson was genuinely fun to attend.

Keats Kunming is close to the city centre and conveniently located near a metro station, making it an easy and comfortable place to stay. Meals are served in a large communal dining room where students and teachers often eat and chat together. The counsellor, Yurina, is amazing—super friendly and incredibly efficient—so you always feel well taken care of.

In addition to evening indoor activities, the school also organised excursions around Kunming. It was a wonderful blend of learning and holiday, and my only regret is that I should have stayed longer.

What was your funniest moment?
The school organised an excursion to a tourist attraction. A school mate was very experienced with modelling, he helped another friend with taking pictures, taught him how to to pose for the camera, where to put his arms, how to gaze afar poignantly, etc. It was so funny and definitely a memorable experience for life.
Pros
  • Adaptable teaching material delivered by skillful and approachable teachers.
  • Safe and comfortable living arrangement, everything you may need is there.
  • Efficient and capable student coordinator who is quick to help students with everything they may need.
Cons
  • Some of the rooms are not level.

Great teaching and achievements in a beautiful city

During one week, I took classes of Mr. Zhang at Keats School in the beautiful spring city of Kunming. It was excellent, fun and rewarding. I started with hardly no knowledge of the Chinese characters, and a basic level of pinyin. Mr. Zhang helped me to understand the structure, The Strokes the radicals of many characters. I was astonished of my learning curve thanks to the supportive and professional help of Mr. Zhang and the school. I am forever grateful of this positive experience and I am motivated to keep learning.

What was your funniest moment?
As part of our classes, we went to a beautiful and large farmers market. There we spoke in Chinese with a lot of merchants to practice the lessons I was taught. We met a butcher, with a big sharp knife and a big smile, he carved Chinese characters on his wooden cutting board, to explain what he was saying about his products. Everybody was so friendly and helpful. I learned a lot from many conversations and my teacher that day.
Pros
  • Immersive learning
  • Fun excursions
  • Safe and positive atmosphere
Cons
  • Can’t think of anything

Great experience

Good place to learn Chinese. Location is very good and quiet, subway station close by, the city offers a lot to visit. Support from the school in all matters was excellent, the room good for the purpose, and specially the food just superb. My teacher had a great attitude and addressed all topics in a fantastic way, I did learn a lot. I feel it was the absolutely right decision to choose this school. I also appreciated the chance to meet students from other countries and Chinese language levels, a great opportunity to share experiences and improve your learning process.

2nd Keats experience

This is my second time doing an extended trip to Kunming and participating at the Keats institute. As you can probably tell I came back because I thoroughly enjoy studying through Keats. All the services they provide, the friendly attitude of all the respective staff, even the free food is very enjoyable. My teacher everyday really put in effort and helped me according to my own needs - and we shared a lot of our own personal experiences using Mandarin, which I actually finds helps me remember it more rather than just doing boring textbook based learning. She really went above and beyond, as did the rest of the staff, to learn my needs and habits and assist me as best she could to unlocking my language learning potential. I now feel confident in speaking to strangers and enjoying authentic Chinese culture where Mandarin is used. I highly recommended Keats for any student wanting to increase their knowledge of Mandarin and Chinese culture as a whole

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be open to all the new experiences and take it slow. If you do you won't regret it. Learning a new language takes time but the more you just enjoy the experience the easier it is
Pros
  • Helpful teachers
  • Friends with international students
  • Friendly locals
Cons
  • Repetitive food maybe but I actually liked it

My Experience in KunMing Keats School

I studied Chinese at Keats School from September to November. It was a long period and I learned a lot. Keats School is located in Kunming, Yunnan Province. The environment in Kunming is very nice and the air quality is good. There are many beautiful places. On weekends, you can also go to nearby places like Dali and Lijiang. Everyone lives a relatively relaxed life here. Keats School is in the center of Kunming, and it's very convenient to go anywhere. After class every day, I would go to the gym in the city center to exercise. The school also provides good services. There are different activities every day and you can participate according to your interests. There are also activities on weekends. My teacher, Miss Pi, is a very good teacher. I learned many interesting new words in her class. My Chinese has improved a lot in these three months. She also took me to many famous places in Kunming during outdoor classes and recommended many delicious foods. The food she recommended was really delicious! In general, I recommend coming to Keats to study Chinese.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
In  KunMing, we can ride public bikes with ease and convenience. This is a fun and suprising opportunity for all students and tourists here
