From the first night I knew that we were lucky to have Seyha as our guide. He was always ready with the relevant information while also making a continuous effort to keep a positive energy in the group.
Most of the time Seyha felt like a friend as much as a guide, which was important given the very small group size. I think Seyha went above and beyond to make up for this and ensure that I was getting the most out of the experience.
In a relatively short space of time I think this trip has given me a comprehensive taste of Cambodia. I enjoyed all of the 4 locations, all of which had something different to offer.
Although I would have preferred a larger group, one advantage of having a small group was the level of flexibility, which meant nobody ever needed to do something they didn't want to do.
I have never felt worried about anything throughout the tour, as Seyha was always on hand to solve problems and provide advice.
I also appreciated his enthusiasm for photography, as he was always on hand to help get the best shots.
Overall I feel that Seyha added significantly to my enjoyment of the tour.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Grilled frog at the sunset bbq. It tasted OK! Just very bony.
Throughout the trip there was ample opportunity to go as far as you dared in terms of adventurous food...

After experiencing an awful tour with G Adventures, I was nervous of the trutravel tour. However, Seyha has made the trip everything I expected and more. I was taken back by the amazing excursions and accommodation provided by trutravel. I have fallen in love with Cambodia and will definitely be returning! I feel Seyha exceeded his role as our tour guide, making us feel welcome and homely for the 12 days being here. Seyha tailored the itinerary to suit us, which made the tour even more special. We have been able to see such memorable places such as S21, Killing fields, Angkor Wat, incredible sunsets and more. I was over the moon by the unbelievable knowledge Seyha has of his country. It was fantastic being able to find out more information. Seyha has such an outgoing, bubbly and caring personality which just makes the tour even more incredible. Even keeping me smiling whilst having seasick issues. I’m overly grateful to have experienced this trip and would recommend to anyone to definitely get involved!!!

What was your funniest moment?
Seyha made the tour. I’ve never laughed so much, he is so outgoing and great at getting everyone together!!

Well what can I say but a massive thank you to Seyha, he is truly one of the most enthusiastic kind caring and most funniest person I’ve ever met, he really does go above and beyond. It has been a absolute pleasure getting to know him and all his incredible knowledge of Cambodia, where I have experienced my first time and most defiantly not going to be my last. It’s a wonderful country and definitely would love to return. His is amazing at his job and trutravels are lucky to have such a great person!. It also has been one of the most fun filled tour adventures I’ve ever done and they also get my 100% satisfaction with every single activity we have done and have had the most memorable experience learning all about Cambodia that will stay with me for life!! The group has also been amazing each individual I’ve met I will always remember as they have all made this trip for me. I’m sad it’s come to a end but I’m happy to of gained new friendships from it all. I wish everyone the best and from here to there next adventure, also once again a MASSIVE thank you to Seyha he is epic and have been so lucky to have him as our tour guide!!!!! 💫

As this was my first time travelling alone I decided I wanted to do a tour to break myself in, Vietnam has always been somewhere I wanted to go so I decided to book on the 17 day tour. I was nervous before arriving but straight away I felt comfortable with everyone and my tour guide Edna was amazing from the off. My nerves changed to relief straight away and it was clear to me it was the best decision I made. For me the tour just got better and better as we moved north and all the sites we got to see and the activities included were just amazing! People ask me what my favourite part was but I genuinely couldn’t pick a best part as I enjoyed it so much, this is massively down to the group of people I was with also, couldn’t of asked for a better bunch of people and I will be in touch with them again. Plenty of extra activities are available for you to do while you have free time and I would recommend for anyone thinking of doing the tour to take advantage of these. Edna was very helpful sorting any extra activities you wanted to do. Also very helpful in letting you know where to go for food or what sites to see. After the tour I had a week spare before flying to Cambodia and wasn’t sure on what to do so Edna suggested we rent some motor bikes and head off into the hills to see some more of Vietnam, I thought yes why not. After hours on the bikes the sites and views we got to see were just out of this world! And again this is all credit to Edna for helping sort the extra little trip out, as if I was on my own I probably wouldn’t have the confidence to do this! All in all I would massively recommend this tour to anyone who is thinking about Vietnam! Massive thank you to everyone on my tour, trutravels and especially Edna!

I was not sure how 10 days with total strangers, and a tour leader, sharing the same accommodations would work out. I was pleasantly surprised. I am used to traveling solo and be on my own schedule, so this was a completely new experience for me. I would first like to give credit to my team leader Edna Mendoza who was absolutely incredible and made sure we had fun, stayed safe and on track with our schedule.
Booking the trip with a British company from the U.S. was actually pretty easy to do. The price for the whole experience was wallet friendly and by far exceeded all my expectations. The team was very responsive to my questions and concerns so I was confident booking with them.
I spent one the my best vacations ever. Edna was really incredible and started communicating with me well in advance of the tour and was always readily available to answer questions and address concerns.
I was fortunate to be part of an incredible group of people, all with different backgrounds, which was fun.
I really had very unique experiences, from traveling for 5 to 10+ hours on a sleeper bus, to sharing 15-bed room in hostel in Ninhavana which was a very beautiful party location. Walking the streets of Mui Ne, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Saigon (to name a few) during the day and at night was quite exquisite. Experiencing the hustle and bustle of Vietnam, from day life to nightlife was exactly what I was looking for. Street food was the best and I always make it a point to eat as much of it as I can. My best memory was coming back from a late outing and stopping at a street vendor's space to get some pho...I was the happiest girl in the world and ate the best pho I have ever tasted -thank you Edna for facilitating this experience and giving us the flexibility we needed to fully immerse ourselves.
There is so much to say, from taking an epic trip to see the "hands" (Golden Bridge) in Da Nang (riding cable cars forever to get there...lol..scary but thrilling experience), to eating the best Banh Mi (where Anthony Bourdain did), to having bespoke outfits made, to cycling and bamboo boat riding in Hoi An or sand surfing in Mui Ne...all throughout this amazing experience, our team leader Edna was incredibly supportive, inclusive and really the instigator of so much fun! I don't remember ever being bored during the whole trip. I made friends and hope everyone who books this tour has as much fun as we did. I would use Trutravels again in the future - but ONLY if Edna is my group leader❤️

What would you improve about this program?
Although our first accommodation in Saigon was very conveniently located in city center, it could use some updating.
Having a more complete booklet for members to download before the trip with complete itinerary including accommodations would be great - in case of emergencies, it would be nice for families to know where we are.

Harriet Thurley

Harriet, is a 19 year old student who, after finishing college, wanted to go and explore what Thailand had to offer, before she goes to University in September.

Why did you choose this program?

I chose this programme because I have always wanted to explore beautiful Thailand. I was inspired to go travelling through friends and family members that had been. This programme had everything that I wanted to do in Thailand on the itinerary. I thought that this programme would should me everything that Thailand had to offer. It did not disappoint.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

My program provider assisted me with virtually everything I could possibly think of. The tour company I did this program with was Tru Travels. However, it was all booked for me through STA Travel. STA took care of my flights and made sure everything was booked for me via Tru Travels. Tru Travels then made sure that all of the transport was sorted and the accommodation and ensure that when we did activities, there was some sort of meal included, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

One piece of advice that I would give to someone going to do this programme is to ensure that you have an open mind and are prepared to give everything a go. I found that there were some physically and mentally rewarding activities on this programme. An example of this would be climbing the Erawan Waterfall. This was physically challenging but highly rewarding once we had completed it. It wasn’t definitely an experience to remember.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

An average day on this program would typically include one activity, whether it be going to an amazing temple, trekking through the jungle or climbing waterfalls. There were some occasions where we had days to relax and have free time that we could enjoy doing what we wanted. An average week on this program is packed full of fun activities and gorgeous food, with free time to do what you would like.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear going abroad to Thailand was my issue with self-confidence, and being quite a shy person. My program consisted of 11 travelers to begin with for the first two weeks, and this number then grew to 22 of us for the remaining two weeks of the month that I was in Thailand. Being thrown into meeting new people really helped me to come out of my shell and be who I am, without any filters. Everyone was so lovely and welcoming and really made me just want to enjoy myself and be me.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to future participants?

I think that when it comes to this program, there are a lot of tips that I have learned throughout my time in Thailand. One tip that I have is that, when it comes to street food, it is always a good idea to look for where the locals are or where the busiest stand is; this indicates that the food is going to be good.

Another tip is that toiletries are expensive out here. You can never have enough sun cream, or shampoo and conditioner.

Another tip is pack light. You can do washing pretty much anywhere. My final tip is to not be afraid to try things. Get out of your comfort zone and just go for it, as you’ll regret it if you don’t.
