The Best Study Abroad Experience You'll Ever Get !

I recently had the opportunity to participate in the exchange program at The American University in Cairo (AUC) (Spring 2023), and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a transformative and enriching academic experience. From the moment I arrived on campus until the day I left, my time at AUC was filled with incredible learning opportunities, cultural immersion, and personal growth.
One of the standout aspects of the exchange program at AUC is the exceptional academic environment. The university boasts a renowned faculty who are experts in their respective fields, offering a wealth of knowledge and diverse perspectives. The courses I took were engaging and intellectually stimulating, challenging me to think critically and pushing me to expand my horizons. Whether it was in the humanities, social sciences, or business disciplines, I found the academic rigor at AUC to be of the highest quality.
Another highlight of the exchange program was the vibrant and multicultural campus community. AUC attracts students from all over the world, creating a truly global learning environment. Interacting with fellow students from diverse backgrounds not only enhanced my understanding of different cultures but also fostered lifelong friendships. The university also organizes various cultural events, extracurricular activities, and clubs that provide ample opportunities for socializing, networking, and exploring the rich Egyptian heritage.
Living in Cairo, one of the most historically significant and culturally vibrant cities in the world, was an unforgettable experience. The city's energy, bustling markets, stunning architecture, and ancient landmarks offer a unique backdrop for students to immerse themselves in Egyptian culture. AUC's central location in Cairo allows for easy exploration of the city's iconic sites, such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, and the vibrant neighborhoods of Zamalek and Maadi. The university also organizes excursions and cultural trips that further enrich the student experience.
The support and resources provided by AUC were exceptional. The university has a dedicated team of staff members who are always ready to assist international students, ensuring a smooth transition and providing support throughout the program. From academic advisors to housing services, AUC prioritizes the well-being and success of its students.
Lastly, the exchange program at AUC offers the opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery. Living and studying in a foreign country can be challenging, but it also presents a chance to develop resilience, adaptability, and a global perspective. The exchange program at AUC encourages students to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new experiences, and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
In conclusion, if you are seeking an exchange program that combines academic excellence, cultural immersion, and personal growth, I highly recommend The American University in Cairo. The university's commitment to providing a well-rounded experience, along with its outstanding faculty, diverse student body, and vibrant campus community, make it an ideal destination for any student looking to expand their horizons and create lifelong memories. My time at AUC was truly transformative, and I am grateful for the invaluable experiences and knowledge I gained during my exchange program.

Attending the American University in Cairo (AUC) has been an incredibly fulfilling and enriching experience. From the moment I became a part of this esteemed institution, I have been impressed by the quality of education, the supportive community, and the opportunities for personal and academic growth.

The faculty at AUC is outstanding. They are not only highly knowledgeable in their respective fields but also genuinely invested in the success of their students. The professors are approachable, supportive, and passionate about teaching. They encourage critical thinking, foster intellectual curiosity, and provide guidance that extends beyond the classroom. Their dedication to excellence has played a pivotal role in shaping my academic journey.

Incredible living experience in Cairo

I am absolutely happy about the enriching experience of the exchange program in AUC I have lived. I believe all the facilities given by the university are amazing. I also liked how professors deliver their classes in an interactive way. However, the workload during the semester might be heavy. The library looks comfortable for studying and the campus counts with several options for eating. In addition, I also enjoyed orientation days since you can meet a lot of new people and the university gives you a lot of key information.

Amazing semester abroad at AUC

The experience is without any doubt worth trying. I really liked IPSO’s involvement in offering activities for international students and their adaptation to AUC. Orientation days were useful for familiarizing me with life inside the university and provided helpful advice for life in Cairo and Egypt. Moreover, the campus looks amazing. There are also many options for eating and chilling when you need to.
Lastly, student dorms offering is valuable since other universities I have been studying in are not that concerned about this. Overall, it has pros and cons. Living near the university, especially if you have a busy schedule, is priceless. However, bear in mind that going to the city center from New Cairo may take up to 1 hour of driving by car (only one way). In this regard, there are several transportation facilities and the university provides some of them, which is nice!

An experience I won’t forget

I have chosen AUC for its location. Coming from France and having studied there for the main part of my life, I wanted to experience another way of teaching and learn Arabic.
I didn’t expect to have so much fun, interesting learnings and meetings.

The university helps with everything and the diversity of student initiatives, events and all adds a lot to the experience.

AUC’s work in welcoming exchange students is amazing and help in making the transition from you home country smoother. Shout out to Rana and the whole team for their commitment and engagement.

Pros
  • A smooth transition
  • 2 beautiful campuses in Downtown Cairo and New Cairo to experiment different sides of Cairo
  • Sport facilities
Cons
  • Understanding the way registration works can take some time
  • The library can be too noisy

Studying abroad at AUC is such a surreal once in a lifetime experience. The auc is in the most beautiful city of the world (in my humbling opinion) and you walk through layers of history every day. The campus is beautiful in both architecture and spirit. The university is very supportive and guides you through any problems you might have. Trips and field trips organised by AUC are amazing and incredibly fun too! Furthermore, the university has a lot of facilities to get you through the semester

Awesome learning experience: Middle Eastern Studies

The learning experience here at that the AUC is like no other. The exposure to global Middle Eastern history and politics is amazing. Special shoutout to Pascal Ghazaleh who's been extra supportive in my topics of interest and pushing me to do my best. Another shoutout to Radwa Wassim for her unconditional support and assistance. Dr Ola for keeping me sane lol. Another shout out to Rana and Dalia from IPSO for their help, support and patience.

The international and local students are a pleasure to know, but I wish I had more time to know them, but then again that's what being a master's student is all about.

Pros
  • learning experience
  • meeting other internationals
  • meeting local students
Cons
  • biased view on Palestine while claiming neutrality from some professors
  • sometimes noisy library

Study Abroad

AUC has good support for study abroad students, and you can choose from a wide variety of classes to create a programme that suits you. The housing on campus is great, but you do need to be quick with applying cause there is high demand. The New Cairo campus is about an hour from downtown, so it takes quite some time to go somewhere. Nevertheless, there is a lot to do and also a lot to explore outside of Cairo. Usually the courses aren't too difficult so you'll have plenty of time to travel around.

AUC experience

Amazing amazing faculty and a great opportunity if you want to learn Arabic but you have to make it happen for yourself as it is a bubble that it is easy to fall into especially given location of campus very far from the city centre. I lived in downtown which I liked a lot although do note that travelling in everyday can be very tiring because distances and traffic can be very long in Cairo! The campus is beautiful and has excellent facilities that rivalled most of what I’ve seen on any European campus
