Amazing Experience in Wellington

I could not have picked a better program for me in choosing to study abroad in Wellington, New Zealand through TEAN. The program administration answered all questions I had beforehand, and was easy to reach once I got there. I also really enjoyed the orientation in Queenstown (where we got to see Milford Sound), and the sponsored events in my host city. The city itself had a great mix of urban and rural activities, there was always something to do. I definitely recommend checking out the farmer's market and the local chocolate factory! Victoria University had all the courses I needed for my major and I found the classes to be very interesting. It was easy to get involved through their club fairs and student hub events. I also found the locals as well as the overall culture to be very welcoming/ tolerant.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be sure to take the weather into account, especially for planning hiking trips, in the colder months some of those trails may not be accessible!

Lots of Fun in the Land Down Under

I had never studied abroad before going to Australia and I am so glad I chose to take this trip with TEAN! It was a blast learning all about Aboriginal culture, seeing all of the indigenous flora and fauna, being with nature, and making life-long friends along the way. TEAN staff and professors were always so supportive and this adventure really helped me grow, academically and personally. Although international travel can sometimes be stressful, TEAN made it simple and enjoyable. I will never forget all of the fun I had on this trip, especially snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef! It is one thing to learn about concepts in the classroom, but it is completely different to see it for yourself and this experience lets you do just that. I also loved how we were able to travel and experience so much of the country in such a short time. Choose TEAN if you ever want to study abroad in Australia; you won't regret it!

Best program ever!

I couldn't imagine going abroad with any other program. Through every step of the way, TEAN made my experience the best it could possibly be. They were so helpful with travel planning and packing advice which made me feel very prepared to go half way around the world. They gave me the opportunity to experience things that I would have never had the opportunity to do if I didn't go abroad. Thanks to TEAN, I made friends that I will have for the rest of my life. I went to Australia not knowing anyone ahead of time but thanks to TEANs orientation at the start of my semester, I was able to meet people and make life long friends. I never felt that I was completely alone and I credit that all to TEAN. They are the absolute best and I can't recommend them enough!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Definitely skydiving. During orientation, I was given the opportunity to skydive on my first morning in Australia and I wouldn't have thought in a million years I would get the opportunity to jump out of a plane. I always thought I would be too scared to do it but I didn't hesitate given the opportunity.

Best Decision You Can Make

Going abroad with TEAN for the semester was one of the best decisions that I made throughout my time in college! The process was really easy and their highly communicative team works with you every step of the way. They were organized and detailed, and made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the whole application process. Upon arriving abroad, they have an orientation program that will help you get accustomed to the culture, meet new friends, and learn everything you need to know about being abroad. Throughout the semester, there are several fun events to hang out with other students and check in with people from the program if you have any concerns. It was a great way to be independent, but still have people looking out for you if you need any help. Being on the Gold Coast was incredible because of the beautiful setting, the perfect balance of city and nature, and the close proximity to an airport for any other travel. Additionally, TEAN provided so many new opportunities such as going to an AFL game, taking surfing lessons, diving on the great barrier reef, and so much more. I would recommend everyone spent time on the Gold Coast with TEAN.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing that I tried while abroad was kangaroo! There are a variety of new foods to give a chance while you are here and I would encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity!

Best summer of my life

Thailand was always on my top places to go since I was young and I am so incredibly happy that I chose to study abroad there as I was truly able to immerse myself into the culture and experience life in Chiang Mai. The minute I stepped off the plane in Chiang Mai I immediately felt welcomed and at home. The culture in Thailand is vastly different from anything I have ever encountered before and I loved taking it all in and experiencing every part of it. TEAN was very helpful and the staff that were with us in Chiang Mai were absolutely AMAZING!! If I ever needed anything or ran into any issues while I was abroad, they were always there to help and assist with anything I needed. Between the incredible food, amazing people, and a culture unlike anywhere else, I am so grateful I chose Chiang Mai and I urge anyone who is thinking about going abroad to go with TEAN!!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Interact with as many local Thai people as you can!! I ended up meeting and building relationships with some amazing local business owners and they had such a positive impact on my trip. It really is no wonder why Thailand is referred to as the land of smiles!

The Best Decision

Studying abroad in Dunedin was the best decision I ever could have made. I experienced more in 5 months than I ever could have imagined and I made an amazing group of friends right from the start who become my travel and adventure buddies. I quickly felt right at home because everyone was always so friendly and welcoming. Whether it was attending a rugby game, a night out in town, or just hanging out in my flat with my flatmates there was never a dull moment in Dunedin. With the beach just a 10 minute bus ride away, hiking trails within walking distance and streets filled with cafes, shops and restaurants right downtown, this city had everything to offer. By the end of the semester, I had close bonds with people from all over the world which made leaving New Zealand one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I ate was duck and lamb.

TEAN is an amazing program

TEAN is a great program. They go above and beyond to prepare you for your trip abroad. I went to Dunedin NZ for a semester and the TEAN staff is simply phenomenal. They are easy to get in contact with and they really want you to have an amazing experience. They more than adequately prepare you before, during, and after your trip. The orientation program when you get to your country allows you to get acclimated in a comfortable environment. TEAN also allows you to meet fellow students who will be going abroad with you. TEAN staff is present within your country and are always available if you need anything. TEAN also has activities for you to participate in while you are in your country. I highly recommend studying abroad through TEAN.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Going bungy jumping! It was so scary but going with friends made it an amazing experience!

The Best Program Ever!!

My semester in Australia was truly like a dream. It was astounding to me that I was half-way around the world making new best friends and traveling to the most amazing places all while being able to receive a full semester worth of credits. Not only was the trip filled with amazing experiences, it was full of wonderful life lessons as well. Being half-way around the world really instills a sense of true independence, there’s no going home or having your mom around to help when you run into trouble. I learned to do things on my own which pushed me to enjoy doing things on my own as well. If nobody was around to head up to the beach or go to dinner, I found myself going on my own instead of sitting around doing nothing thanks to this new-found sense of independence. That being said, my time in Australia also taught me how important it is to take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves, no matter how big or small, even if they scare you. Looking back, I am so happy I didn't back out of sky-diving, scuba diving, or our hike in the Bali heat because those experiences were some of my favorite times, not only my trip, but of my whole life.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
A group of my friends and I went to the Whitsunday Islands for the weekend and decided to go skydiving. It was absolutely terrifying being in an airplane and thinking about the fact that you're about to jump out of it. When my turn came to jump, my guide grabbed my hand and out we went. It was the best experience of my entire life so I am eternally grateful for my friends convincing me to go and my guides support!

A Summer In Seoul & a Summer I'll Never Forget

My dream since I was 11 years old was to travel to Seoul, South Korea and learn all about Korean language and culture. I was really nervous about picking the study abroad right program. I wanted to challenge myself academically, but also leave enough time to explore and have fun. My university didn't offer a program to South Korea, but I saw TEAN's table at my university's study abroad fair. After speaking with the representative and researching Korea University; I knew that this was the right program for me. My sociology and Korean language classes at Korea University were challenging but the professors were amazing. The town of Anam was also amazing. I never felt unsafe once and that's saying a lot because I grew up in Baltimore. Anam also had some the best & inexpensive food that I ate while in Korea. During TEAN's welcome and farewell dinner, Sandra and Katie ( from TEAN) took us to awesome restaurants. The excursions that were included in this trip were so much fun. My favorite was Lotte World because I love amusement parks. During the excursions you could get to know your KUBA better ( Korean buddy) and then have a Korean friend for life. I honestly don't have one complaint about this program, I would go again in a heartbeat.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice would be to try to go with the flow and explore as much as possible. Seoul is such a dense city and there are new places popping up every day. I was out of my dorm every day from 10am- until the subways closed at midnight and I still did not get to see as much as I would have liked to. Seoul tends to build upwards instead of outwards; so don't forget to look up above the first floor of buildings. Google maps and Apple maps don't work that well in Korea, so make sure you have Kaokao Map and Kakao Metro downloaded so you don't get lost. Don't skip out on the excursions because they're really fun and worth your time. TEAN has a great support system so don't hesitate to reach out to someone if you have questions or concerns. But my biggest piece of advice would be; watch out for mopeds.

A Once in a Lifetime Experience!

My summer interning in New Zealand through TEAN was truly one I will never forget. The application and interview process supported by TEAN’s excellent staff was smooth and I was placed in the appropriate field in which I wanted to gain work experience. I had a blast on the orientation with the other interns; it was a great way to make new friends and get to see the country before settling into the internship. I lived in a beautiful apartment that TEAN organized with other interns, balanced working hard during the week and exploring NZ on the weekends, and established connections with my supervisors. I learned so much about my field, gained real-world skills, and pushed myself out of my comfort zone. It was a summer full of personal and professional growth and I highly recommend TEAN!
