Medical Campaign- Elijah Delp

This was an amazing program! I would highly recommend this program to any undergrads student who wants to go into the medical field. You truly learn so much from the doctor and you will have experiences and connections that will impact you for a lifetime. You go around to different towns around Guatamela every morning. There will be stations for brushing teeth, deworming, handwashing, and the doctor. All volunteers will rotate each day to get a diverse experience. Guatamela is a tremendous country and the people are even better!

What was your funniest moment?
One of my friends kicking a soccer ball and breaking a ladies roof.
Pros
  • Organized
  • Diverse
  • Supportive

Medical Campaign

This experience was very valuable to me as a medical undergraduate student and as a person. I was able to learn many different things about the Guatemalan culture and about medical treatment in Guatemala. This is something most if not all medical students should do to gain hands on experience in the medical field and to learn about healthcare in different places. The people were great to work with and the overall medical experience was very growing as a student. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in Guatemala.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Travel with a group of people you know decently well. When traveling with others it limits the safety concerns of the country and can be more fun.
Pros
  • Medical Experience
  • Fun Excursions
  • Memorable moments
Cons
  • Unsafe feeling in some areas
  • Opportunities to learn
  • City traffic

Medical Campaign

I had such a great week with Maximo Nivel. I learned so much new medical information from the doctor and found it very cool how we were encouraged to ask the patients questions in order to determine a diagnosis and treatment. I loved how all of the staff were always so willing to help and make sure each day went as smooth as possible. Kevin was such a great resource and you could tell he truly cared about the volunteers, the communities we served, and the medical mission project as a whole. I greatly enjoyed this week and would love to come back again if possible!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do not be afraid to try new adventures and food. Everyone here is so welcoming and happy for you to be here, so do not be anxious and stressed! You will have the best time!

Medical mission trip

This was a very special and rewarding experience with great support from Máximo. I traveled to different towns around the Antigua Guatemala area assisting with basic healthcare needs. It was a great learning experience for my future in healthcare and I would highly recommend this opportunity to any who could get the chance. The doctor and the staff we worked with made the transition easy and they were readily available whenever questions or concerns came about. The town of Antigua was beautiful with great views, food and people.

Guatemala 2025 medical campaign

Had a wonderful and productive mission trip with Maximo Nivel. Absolutely great experience and I learned a lot. There are some many things to learn and so many places and things to explore. Working with the communities around is really rewarding and is super interesting. The culture here is different and so is the Spanish we learned a lot of different words and how to say things. I would definitely consider going again to get more experience and knowledge as there was so much more that I still want to try out of it.

Great Experience!!

I decided to plan this medical mission trip with Maximo Nivel very last minute and I had zero regrets. It has changed my perspective on many topics drastically and taught me so much. My favorite times were working with the doctor and learning about different diagnoses. I also really enjoyed getting to meet the children and see the impact that we made on them that day. I highly recommend getting it to any person aspiring to be in a medical career, current medical professionals, or student studying medicine.

The traditional breakfast foods like refried beans.
Pros
  • Learning about medical diagnoses
Cons
  • Sometimes the translators had a difficult time translating between us and the patients

UK Uni student year abroad

Really enjoyed my 4 weeks here, the host family was really nice and the support staff was very helpful. I had an internship at a hotel which was really enjoyable and good to practice Spanish speaking. The Maximo Nivel institute has lots of activities planned for the week, and the Spanish lessons were of great quality and very flexible to the sorts of things you would want to learn. The actual workbook itself was very detailed and the teaching was superb. Would recommend to university students who need or want to spend time abroad, the perfect place for this.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go out and about to explore different places in Costa Rica, your not here forever and there’s plenty to see.
Pros
  • Good Spanish practice
  • Friendly staff
  • Helpful

Amazing experience

It's very hard to describe just in a few words how great studying with Maximo Nivel was! Everyone in the institute is genuine, kind, and very supportive. Completing a TEFL course is a lot more intense than I could have imagined (probably the most challenging 4 weeks of my life) but 100% worth it. I feel so grateful I had the best teacher: Wayne Summerbell :)

Be prepared to feel challenged (this is definitely NOT a holiday), and more importantly: be prepared to feel satisfied and happy with yourself once you've made it :)

Antigua is the most beautiful city too! It's very easy to get around. As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe during my whole stay there. You'll feel at home in no time :)
