Study Abroad at NYU Paris

My semester abroad in Paris with NYU was a very memorable experience. I was able to thoroughly immerse myself within French culture through my homestay, dance lessons, and internship. The academics at NYU Paris were alright, there were a few courses that were pretty tedious and I also felt that uninformed in terms of what my options were for Pass/Fail, and uninformed in general regarding academic support. There are a few truly incredible members of the NYU Paris staff but in general I didn't necessarily feel welcomed at times.

NYU Sydney

The staff were so helpful and the planned programs for students were really interesting and relevant. We did neighborhood dinners so that students had a chance to explore even if they didn't have the funds to eat out. Also, the staff were really great with helping students find jobs if they were interested in working. The small class sizes were a very new experience at NYU and it was helpful to have so much face to face time with each professor, and it definitely helped a lot with learning the material. I had a really great time at NYU Sydney and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to go abroad.

What would you improve about this program?
The wifi situation at Urbanest is an issue when it comes to being able to complete assignments since it's limited, but other than that the program was great.

Amazing experience, everyone should do it at least once at NYU

Best study abroad experience you will ever have, NYU knows what they are doing! Everything is planned for and provided, and you will feel right at home after a couple weeks. Travel within Europe is super easy, and NYU even plans free trips for you! Housing is very community-oriented and you often feel as if you are sharing a mansion with your closest friends. All teachers and staff are very friendly and will help you out with anything you need. No need for parents to worry at NYU Prague!

Junior Fall in Sydney

After only seeing beautiful pictures of Australia, I decided that I needed to go. I quickly fell into a routine and found a sense of home with the assistance of NYU staff and their programs. As the fall is a smaller program, I found people more excited and open to meeting new people, causing friendships to blossom early. Additionally, the walk to classes was on the longer side, but this guaranteed quality time with friends as we hiked uphill. With new friends and a new place, I found myself excited to travel and explore the spaces around me. Whether I was working with friends on homework assignments or planning the next trip, I was always happy to be social. I found myself, in general, to be happier and healthier in Sydney. Although Sydney can be expensive, I found ways to budget without missing out on experiences. The access to affordable, fresh produce at Paddy's Market was a highlight for me! Going forward from this experience, I feel confident in my ability to plan and work with people. Before Sydney, I had never pushed myself to budget so intensely or plan trips so specifically, but these are skills that are now invaluable to me. My time in Sydney made me grow as a person and I can't wait to see how this influences my life back in the United States.

What would you improve about this program?
More planned trips!

THE BEST

Florence was the best place to study abroad! Italy is such a beautiful country, one of the best in Europe, and I would do anything to go back. Everyone there is so nice, the food is amazing, and NYU does a great job of helping students adjust and have a great semester. A lot of people there speak English, which was something I was worried about, but there's no reason to have any doubts coming to Florence. Plus, the weather is mostly warm all year!

Loved It

I had an amazing time aboard and would highly recommend studying in Sydney if you have a chance to do so. I loved the culture the people and the food there. It was a laid back and chill vibe, which is in contrast from the fast paced intense life style in New York. With the small cohort abroad I found it easier to meet other NYU Students that I might not have been friends with if I'd meet them in New York. The small classes allowed for professors to know us and engage in more meaningful discussions.

What would you improve about this program?
This program could be improved if classes met more than once a week. I thought that 3 hour classes were long and it was hard to stay focused for 3 hours.

Semester in Prague

I was excited to go to Prague, and I’m glad to say it exceeded my expectations in many ways. The cost of living was very reasonable and low, a much enjoyed respite from the steep prices in NYC. Prague’s location also provided me with the travel opportunities I wanted while in Europe; I was able to visit Rome, Vienna, Budapest, Amsterdam, Belgium, and Croatia, among others. It was a great city to be in, however by the last month I had felt like I had seen everything I wanted to see and was wishing for more museums or scenic spots. NYU did provide free trips to go on which were also great. Some of my classes I enjoyed immensely, however some were lacking for me in content and topics. I wish there were more classes to choose from, as there were so many history classes that the other offerings felt slim. However, overall I believe I learned a lot from my time in Praha and am grateful for the experiences and friends I made while there. I would definitely recommend going.

What would you improve about this program?
Diversity of classes
Some of the trips were not well planned in terms of scheduling and timing so look into how to be more efficient when planning overnight/day trips.

Madrid

I think NYU Madrid is great, but be prepared for rigorous coursework, as well as the fact that the program is mostly NYU students. If you are from another school, put yourself out there in order to make friends because some people come with friends already. The staff is great and all of the professors are amazing. If you're looking for an academic experience as well as a cultural one, this program is for you. If you're planning on skipping school to travel, party, etc., you're better off somewhere else.

What would you improve about this program?
Cheaper housing, allowing you to miss classes (at least 1) without a grade penalty.

Study Abroad in Prague

I absolutely loved studying abroad in the Czech Republic. Not only were the classes genuinely interesting and very different from the ones offered at the NYC campus, but the prime location of Prague meant traveling was both cheap and easy. My favorite trip was by far Spain, which took place during fall break. The food was amazing, and I made so many unforgettable memories. We traveled to Barcelona, Seville, Cadiz, and Madrid.

What would you improve about this program?
Potentially having more school-sponsored activities/trips with more spots on each trip.

NYU Sydney Fall 2017

Studying in Australia was a great idea because the weather throughout the semester was perfect! I got to escape the cold weather of New York and went to tons of beaches in Australia. It was really cool to see how different the culture was in terms of people, food, social life, etc. A big perk about studying abroad in Sydney was being able to travel to tons of other countries and explore the different parts of Australia.

What would you improve about this program?
The walk to school from the living accommodation is pretty long but you get to exercise everyday so yay
