I spent 4 weeks in August 2026 at LTL Chengde, and it was the perfect deep dive for my beginner Mandarin. Full immersion means exactly that — I used Mandarin everywhere, from daily classes to meals, markets, and conversations on the street.
Zhongwen, the course coordinator, was outstanding — incredibly responsive, organised everything smoothly, arranged a wonderful homestay, and planned cultural visits that made practicing feel natural, not forced. She genuinely cares about your progress and comfort.
Four hours of focused 1:1 lessons each day built confidence fast — my teacher spoke only Mandarin, patient but encouraging. Homestay life let me share meals, stories, and daily moments entirely in Chinese. Chengde itself is beautiful, peaceful, friendly, and wonderfully affordable — locals love chatting with you!
I came here to start using my Mandarin — and I did. From limited experience to confidently chatting with locals and my host family. Four weeks was transformative. Highly recommend LTL Chengde to anyone serious about learning. Would absolutely return.

I just wrapped up three weeks studying Mandarin at LTL Beijing, and wanted to share my experience, especially since between the homestay and my teacher, it ended up being way better than I expected going in.

I did the homestay option, which I'd recommend without hesitation. My host family was genuinely amazing — the food was great every single day, and beyond that, we'd end up having these long conversations in the evenings that I really looked forward to. What made it work was that they were good about adjusting how they spoke so I could actually follow along, rather than just talking at normal speed and leaving me lost. That probably did more for my listening and confidence than anything else during the trip.

Classes with my teacher, Summer, were the other big highlight. She was just really nice, and the classes were joyful and funny, and full of chances to actually speak rather than just sit and listen. Time genuinely flew by in class, and by the end I'd made amazing progress, way more than I expected in just three weeks.

On top of that, everyone at the school was just really nice, which made the whole experience feel welcoming rather than intimidating.

If you're weighing whether to study Mandarin in Beijing, I'd genuinely recommend LTL — between the teaching and the homestay, it's a solid combination.

I’m very happy that i’m improved my chinese with Lily. She is a good teacher, and I had a positive experience with her. She is personable, engaging, and kind. If I didn't understand something, she would always repeat it. I really recommend her if you are trying to study chinese without it feeling heavy and she doesen’t care what level you are. I’m very grateful to have met Lily. I really enjoyed the program; I had a great time and saw things I never imagined I would visit. I already went to Chengdu last year, and if I had the chance, I would go back to China with LTL a third time.

I had a great experience learning Chinese with Lily in Beijing. She is a very kind, patient, and professional teacher who always makes me feel comfortable and motivated during our lessons. Her explanations are clear and easy to understand, and she always takes the time to make sure I understand new grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. I really appreciate how she adapts the lessons to my level and encourages me to speak Chinese as much as possible. Thanks to Lily, I feel much more confident when speaking Chinese and I have noticed a real improvement in my communication skills. Her lessons are interesting, engaging, and enjoyable, and I always look forward to the next one. I would definitely recommend Lily to anyone who wants to learn Chinese in Beijing, whether they are a beginner or already have some experience. She is an excellent teacher and I am very happy to have learned Chinese with her!

A very useful experience for learning more about the language and tradition — a big thank you to Professor Lily, who was very good at explaining things and giving guidance, kind and always ready to teach new things. A very fun experience as a group, and useful for the future and for anyone who has never learned Chinese and wants to approach the language. The school has all the necessary amenities, and the classrooms are very spacious and comfortable, even if the temperature isn't always pleasant for everyone.

Esperienza molto utile per imparare di più sulla lingua e sulla tradizione un ringraziamento alla professoressa lily molto brava nella spiegazione e nelle indicazioni, gentile e sempre pronta a far imparare cose nuove esperienza molto divertente in gruppo e utile per il futuro e per che non ha mai imparato il cinese e vuole approcciarsi alla lingua. La scuola dispone di tutte le comodità necessarie e le aule sono molto spaziose e confortevoli anche se la temperatura non è sempre gradevole per tutti.

So I‘m currently half-way through my 4 week stay in Kunming and I must admit it has exceeded my expectations so far! When I first arrived I got sick for a few days (hence the new environment and exhaustion). However the Organisator Savannah aswell as my Host Family and Alex (Vice CEO) were very welcoming and provided great hospitality! Thanks to them I was able to recover quickly and start my studies in Kunming. In my opinion Kunming is worth a visit for it‘s beautiful landscape, yummy food, relaxed people and of course the perfect weather. My studies here went flawless and so far I was able to develop my chinese skills quickly thanks to the incredible teaching skills, experience and methods of my teacher Helene. Overall my program here has been going very smoothly and although I am taking one on one lessons I still get to talk to other people such as Alex who takes me out for lunch most days :) The only struggles I have experienced so far were getting used to the new surroundings as well as the rarity of traditional western toilets :P

I stayed a total of three months at LTL Beijing, with a mix of group classes and individual 1-on-1 lessons. The experience as a whole has been very positive, from the registration process (where my assigned student advisor was great) to the lessons themselves, which managed to raise my initially very rusty Mandarin level enough to now be able to get through daily life quite comfortably (including getting a haircut!). A particularly big thank you therefore to my two teachers – Lilian老师 and Sara 老师 – for their patience and engagement! The lessons with them were very interactive, focused, and overall an enjoyable and educative experience – 感谢你们!

I’m so grateful to have had Pan Pan as my teacher. She is kind, patient, supportive, and always made lessons enjoyable and comfortable. She explains things clearly and was always willing to help whenever I’m struggling. Her encouragement and positive attitude helped me feel more confident in my mandarin - she really made my chengdu experience amazing 🐼🫶

I’d also like to mention Alex and Stiles, who have both been so friendly and supportive throughout. Everyone has made the experience feel really welcoming and positive!!

I completed a four-week intensive one-to-one Chinese course at LTL Chengdu, with 100 hours of classes in total, and I am extremely happy with both the progress I made and the overall experience. I am 33 years old and started the programme with approximately an A2 level of Chinese.

I would particularly like to highlight my teacher Guo Xin Yue. She was outstanding: very professional, friendly and highly adaptable to my needs and learning style. I genuinely enjoyed studying with her and was extremely satisfied with the quality of her lessons. One of my specific requests was that I did not want to focus on learning how to write Chinese characters by hand, and this was respected perfectly. The lessons were adapted accordingly, which allowed me to focus on the areas that were most useful for my goals. I also had Juan Tang for fewer hours, but I was very happy with her classes as well.

Ying, the Director of Studies, was excellent throughout my stay. She was always kind, attentive and very efficient in handling my requests and the logistics of the programme. I had booked several additional options, and everything was arranged and adapted very smoothly. At one point, I felt that one of my teachers was not the right fit for me, and the change was handled quickly and without any complications.

The Safari sessions are worth understanding correctly: they are not primarily designed as opportunities to practise Chinese with random locals, but rather as a way to explore Chengdu with someone from the school. I had an excellent experience with Wei, who was perfect for this format. We explored the city together and had very enjoyable and interesting conversations.

The school provided three different textbooks, and the course was flexible enough to focus more deeply on the one I found most useful. This flexibility was something I particularly appreciated.

There was also a good variety of social activities, very well organised by Giulia and Ilaria. They both do an excellent job of creating a welcoming atmosphere and bringing students together.

The school itself is relatively small, but well organised and comfortable, and students also have access to a personal locker.

One point worth mentioning is that having a good level of English is important if you want communication with the teachers to be as smooth and precise as possible, especially when discussing grammar, learning preferences or specific questions.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience at LTL Chengdu. I made significant progress in my Chinese, felt that the programme was genuinely adapted to my needs, and had a very enjoyable four weeks both academically and personally. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an intensive and personalised Chinese-learning experience.
