I had such a great time. The program team was great, my host was great, and everyone I met was great! This will be an opportunity that I take away and call upon my entire life. It was an incredible way to boost my resume, gaining work experience in a new country. It was my first time traveling by myself in a continent I have never been to, allowing me to grow as an individual. I enjoyed learning about the work culture, food, and holiday traditions and customs in Spain. I will surely be back to Spain in the future.

Incredible Experience

My program manager was so attentive, and my internship placement was perfect and relevant to my career. I traveled solo, so I was a little anxious. Intern Abroad HQ made sure to communicate with me constantly, and was there to answer any questions. It was awesome to take the included spanish classes- we learned relevant words and phrases, and it is a great way to meet people. I stayed in shared housing rather than homestay, which worked better for me, and was located in the center of the city. Overall, was an amazing time.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
If you are traveling solo, it can be intimidating. But, it is a great chance for personal growth, and I promise you will get settled in and enjoy.

Gondwana Private Game Reserve

The people were the highlight of my time in South Africa, but the practical and professional experience I gained was second to none. I went for 3 months to get my GIS Certification and gain valuable field experience around wildlife. The encounters you'll witness and have with the animals will be remembered for the rest of your life. Stay as long as you are willing to. Many people came and went while I was there but the few that were there for a longer amount of time now have life-long connections. Typically people who stayed for 2 weeks were not ready to leave - I would do at least 4 weeks if you're going for reasons other than career. If you go for your career, go longer. I learned something new up until the day I left. If you don't mind getting a little dirty, this is the spot for you. Gondwana will steal your heart and soul like you couldn't imagine.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I'm from the US. While we were in camp we asked our camp manager if we could do something different for our Friday night braai. He brought us home cuts of Kudu, Warthog, and Ostrich. We grilled them up and they did not disappoint. If you have a reason to not eat meat, vegetarian options were always available.
Pros
  • Career Experience (field and GIS)
  • Life-long connections
  • WILDLIFE & NATURE!!!
Cons
  • Little privacy (you have your tent and the bathrooms, but most places are shared)
  • WiFi isn't always strong (Could be a pro too)
  • Sometimes someone comes through camp that you may not like - don't worry, anywhere you go will have at least one.

Life Changing

This was such an incredible experience! Intern Abroad HQ allowed me to experience what my field of interest would be like as a profession, and gave me a multitude of important skills along the way! I am more confident in my leadership capabilities, have a clearer plan for the future, and have new connections in my desired career field. Intern Abroad HQ connected me with an established scientist whose profession is very similar to what I wish to pursue in the future. Over the course of 8 weeks, I was given a multitude of assignments and projects that were not only engaging, but incredibly useful and insightful. Truly an amazing program!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
One of my assignments was to analyze a dataset that I previously collected using the coding platform R Studios. Unfortunately, that assignment coincided with Finals week at my high school, so I essentially had to learn how to navigate and use R Studios while also maintaining my grades in school. Luckily, I managed to do so with the support and understanding of my supervisor!
Pros
  • New experiences
  • Educational challenges
  • Networking opportunities
Cons
  • Stressful situations
  • Time-zone differences
  • Tech difficulties

Don't Overthink!

At the beginning of my internship, I was extremely nervous. I worried that I wouldn’t understand their accents and feared that the time zone differences would make it difficult to connect with the team. I wasn’t sure how I would manage everything from afar.

However, the internship turned out to be smooth and incredibly enjoyable. I learned so much from my mentor, who patiently taught me essential skills such as creating a business proposal and assessing which businesses are worth investing in. Their guidance not only improved my professional abilities but also inspired me personally.

What made this experience even more meaningful was my mentor’s kindness. He even agreed to be my recommender for university applications. This internship left me with unforgettable memories and valuable lessons.

Learning, Growth, and Sunshine with Intern Abroad HQ in Seville

My internship experience in Seville, made possible thanks to Intern Abroad HQ, was truly wonderful. This city is exactly the kind of place I will always be happy to return to — a place filled with sunshine, warmth, friendly Sevillians, and a peaceful organic farm with a newly created vegetable garden built together, as well as the acacia tree I planted myself, which I hope will grow into something truly magnificent.

This company helped me find exactly the right farm where I could deepen my practical experience in the field of agronomy. Throughout the entire journey, my managers Veronika and Belén were always by my side, responding quickly to all my questions and helping ensure that everything developed smoothly, step by step, and in the right direction. I never once felt alone or confused, because I always knew they were ready to help me whenever I needed support. I am extremely grateful!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
In my home country, Georgia, I usually get around either by car or on foot, but here I often had to travel by bus to the farm and sometimes around the city as well. At first, I felt quite tense and nervous, worried that I might miss my stop or get lost. However, the bus drivers were incredibly friendly and always willing to help. During my very first trip, my program manager even accompanied me and reassured me, which helped me a lot.

I would also like to mention that the buses in Seville are very clean and well organized. They run in almost every direction every half hour or every hour, which makes getting around the city very convenient.
Pros
  • Learned how to live independently
  • truly understood what it means to be an agronomist and to manage a farm
  • experienced the greatness and rich culture of the city of Seville
Cons
  • The experience of being alone
  • Missing home-cooked food by the end of the program
  • adjusting to Seville’s unusual daily routine — starting work very early, taking a long break in the middle of the day due to the heat, and having dinner very late in the evening.

Leona Vujicic internship in Madrid

My three-month internship at Capital Psicólogos in Madrid was a uniquely valuable experience that strengthened my development as a 21-year-old aspiring clinical psychologist. What made it truly stand out was the chance to work directly with real patients through one-on-one sessions, allowing me to apply theory in practical, meaningful ways and confirm my passion for clinical work. The bilingual setting—half English, half Spanish—challenged me while helping me improve my Spanish and adapt to a wide variety of clients. The team was incredibly supportive, always willing to translate, guide, and adjust schedules so I could participate fully. The work environment was educational, flexible, and welcoming, which made learning feel natural rather than pressured. Although most sessions were online, and in-person days were fully in Spanish—which at times made communication difficult—the experience highlighted the importance of reducing language barriers and gaining more hands-on clinical exposure. Overall, this internship offers future students real therapeutic responsibility, cultural immersion, and a genuinely caring team. It is an exceptional opportunity for anyone seeking meaningful clinical experience early in their career.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I were to repeat my internship at Capital Psicólogos, I would absolutely do it again—its impact on my clinical growth was undeniable. However, I would make one key change: I would start preparing my Spanish much earlier. Strengthening my language skills beforehand would have allowed me to participate more confidently in in-person sessions and navigate complex therapeutic conversations with greater ease. I would also try to arrange more consistent in-person involvement, since the online format, while convenient, limited some of the hands-on learning that is so valuable in clinical training. Despite these challenges, the experience was deeply rewarding and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Pros
  • Direct work with real patients, offering meaningful clinical experience
  • Supportive and flexible team environment that encouraged learning
  • Bilingual setting that improved language skills and cultural competence
Cons
  • Language barrier during Spanish-only in-person sessions
  • Majority of sessions online, limiting hands-on clinical exposure
  • Occasional difficulty adapting to varying communication styles across clients

Supportive Team and Positive Experience Overall

My internship in Greece was a truly refreshing and enriching experience. I met many new people, learned a lot about myself, and gathered valuable insights along the way. The overall atmosphere was positive, and the team made me feel welcome from the very first day. The company fosters a friendly and open environment where interns can grow both personally and professionally, and communication was always clear and supportive.

One thing that could make the experience even better would be a stronger focus on practical work. My tasks were mostly theoretical, and more hands-on activities would have added even greater value. Despite this, I genuinely enjoyed my time there and appreciate everything I learned.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most special experience I had was hiking up to the highest point of Samos. I saw the sunset from the top, spent the night in a small mountain hut at the top, woke up to a breathtaking view, and hiked back down.
Pros
  • I met many new people and gained valuable personal insights.
  • The atmosphere was welcoming, and the team was supportive from day one.
  • I had unique experiences outside of work
Cons
  • The internship focused more on theoretical tasks than practical work.
  • I would have appreciated more hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Some days felt less structured, which made it harder to stay engaged.

My Experience in Cape Town & Why I Recommend It!

I loved my experience in Cape Town. Intern Abroad HQ never made me feel uncertain about what I could expect and I know there was always someone I could reach out to with any questions/ if anything came up. This doesn't only include the time pre-departure, but also in country, as well as afterwards. I always felt like I was prepared well and had everything I needed to have the best experience. The local team was also great and really helped Everyone to feel comfortable and supported. I would recommend Intern Abroad HQ/ Masambeni over and over again for this incredible opportunity that definitely changed my perspective on the world, be more informed and understanding of other people, their culture as well as their history. Anyone interested in a program like this should definitely be open-minded. Inform yourself about the place you're wanting to experience beforehand and know that there will be challenges, but none that you cannot overcome. There's a lot of support available and a good common sense will already serve you so well!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Inform yourself about the place before you go. Being educated about a places' history, culture, and its people goes a long way in understanding who they are and why they do everything that way they do. Be open-minded & leave your biases at home!:)

  • Cultural Awareness
  • Personal Growth & Confidence
  • New Perspectives

They were very flexible and supportive of tourism. Exploring the country and its many islands were easy and cheap! The food was amazing and people were very welcoming.
