Review

Our tour guide Wilson, and driver Caass, were truly what helped make the trip so so memorable. They were amazing. Wilson went out of his way to make sure 2 girls who lost their watches while going cave tubing had it returned. He always chose the best spots for food and even doing the activities. Wilson also helped translate for us whenever working with mainly Spanish speaking clients. They should truly be full time Therapy Abroad guides because they helped make the trip so memorable. Super grateful

What would you improve about this program?
I would say to mention specifically in the packing list that we should pack a computer or iPad for documenting. Many of us unfortunately did not bring this because we did not know we were supposed to.
Pros
  • The hotel
  • The guides
  • The adventures

2026 ISU Audiology in Belize

This was a great experience for myself and my students. I brought two first year graduate audiology students and one third year graduate audiology student. The four of us was a great group, and my third year got a lot of leadership experience. My first years were able to learn how to test with fewer resources, and with more efficiency.

Any more information coming in would have been very helpful and would love to help give information to future people.
Others should know you should bring as much equipment and devices as able. Rechargeable devices would be strongly preferred.

What was your funniest moment?
Leaning a fun new song from Mrs. Patty. It was not the most appropriate, but we all knew most of the words by the end.
Pros
  • Learning how to be flexible.
  • Watching student leadership grow
  • Fixing/dispensing de evices
Cons
  • Iguana park
  • Limited knowledge going in
  • Was unable to give devices due to lack of batteries

ISU Therapy Abroad 2026

This experience was filled with enriching environments that fostered my growth and confidence as a student clinician! I’d recommend this to all students looking to grow in their clinical, cultural, and educational skillset! The food was amazing and the Therapy Abroad staff were so kind and helpful! For those who are more shy and reserved, this is also a great way to connect with others on the trip! It was so fun to explore and learn together. Additionally, it was a great way to learn more about different cultures and the traditions that are important to them.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be flexible! When studying abroad, it’s a learning experience for everyone. Take it easy and don’t stress too much if things don’t go according to plan or may turn out different than you expect. Those moments are what makes the trip so fun!
Pros
  • Food
  • Culture
  • Group bonding
Cons
  • Organization of days/ activity choices

Therapy Abroad - Graduate Program in San Pedro, Belize

This was an amazing trip. The clinical experiences provided were unmatched and Therapy Abroad did a great job connecting us with members of the community. While the hotel rooms were small for three people, the hotel was always clean and the staff was friendly. The food options every day were delicious, and I liked how some days we got options so we could fully enjoy the eating experience. A highlight outside of the academics was definitely Secret Beach, and it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of a long trip.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I was very nervous about the food mostly because I dont eat seafood. Luckily we were provided lots of options but given the opportunity to try different foods. I tried a conch fritter and thought I was going to hate it but I was surprised at how much I liked it!
Pros
  • Clinical Experiences
  • Food
  • Activities

SLP Grad Student Trip

I had so much fun in Belize and learned so many new skills while becoming more confident in my practiced skills!! The food was delicious and everyone in the community was so nice! I was able to find some local art in the market that I can’t wait to hang in my apartment! I loved the beach day and really enjoyed being able to relax on the last day of the trip. This trip challenged me and pushed me out of my comfort zone more than I was expecting. I was able to quickly pivot while evaluating children in order to work with their strengths and needs. I also feel like I deeply developed my report writing skills and now I feel much more comfortable doing this in the future.

What was your funniest moment?
Doing the inflatable obstacle course with my classmates at Secret Beach.
Pros
  • Have so much fun with friends
  • Build clinical confidence
  • Learn how to assess different dialects
Cons
  • Camp was outside and hot
  • The hotel had some bugs
  • Early mornings

My time in Belize

Belize is such a beautiful place and everyone is so kind and friendly. The food was amazing, loved it so very much. My favorite was chicken teriyaki and they also have great coleslaw, but I am coleslaw lover. When we provided therapy we did believe that we would be in classrooms and not outside which I didn’t mind being outside but more resources would have been nice. The kids however did love being outdoors and didn’t mind the heat whatsoever. The housing is what you would expect, nothing luxurious but felt more like a lodge. Also remember they have small pipes.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The chicken drop, I have never heard about it before.
Pros
  • Food
  • Connections
  • Friendliness
Cons
  • Toilets
  • Housing
  • Be cautious when walking

Therapy Abroad- SLP Belize

I participated in the 12 day clinic based SLP program in San Ignacio and Caye Caulker, Belize. As a first year graduate student I felt this trip was the perfect was to strengthen my growing clinical skills in a supportive and collaborative manner. I could not have been more blessed with the amazing students and supervisors that participated in this experience alongside me. Miss D’Lya and Alexa truly are the definition of excellence in regards to supervisors and genuine people. Truly an eye opening experience culturally!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Embrace the process! Flexibility is the name of the game in life, and this trip is a great example of that. With various languages spoken, and limited time to prepare for clinic, it is essential that you dive right into the process. You are not alone! Be curios and lean on supervisors and other students to make the most of the experience and have the greatest impact on the community!
Pros
  • Very hands on with the ideal amount of supervision (with my group of four students).
  • You are fully immersed in the Belizean culture, not an Americanized version of life there.
  • Amazing excursions including zip lining, cave tubing, and swimming with sharks!
Cons
  • Limited food options/accommodations for those with dietary restrictions. We had a few girls with allergies who consistently had to advocate for themselves.
  • Timing was a bit off on multiple occasions. The schedule flowed well overall but there were a few occasions where we had too much time in the wrong place with nothing to do or we missed the water taxi because we were a bit behind (which was avoidable).
  • I paid extra to meet a a mutual connection destiniation, as recommended, but it was not worth the extra cost. I would recommend flying as direct as possible opting for the cheapest flight available given it is not covered in the trip fee.

I had an amazing time on my trip to San Pedro! It was so fun to emerge myself into a new culture and meet so many new people! Tykes Camp was such an amazing experience and I loved getting to work with the kids! We were also given the opportunity to try so many new foods and participate in Belezian traditions such as drumming, a Gurifuna cooking class, going to the iguana park, and so much more! It was such a good mix of doing therapy and having fun! I would totally recommend San Pedro to anyone that is interested in going aborad

Thank you so much!

I had such a great time on this trip! I learned and experienced so much as I do on every Therapy Abroad trip. The new experiences, food, and people that you spend this time with also add to the experience! The things you see and experiences your experience on trips such as this are unforgettable and truly once in a lifetime. Not only are the trips degree specific, but they provide opportunities for you also learn about culture and see amazing things. I would recommend these trips to everyone! Therapy Abroad never disappoints!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is to live in the moment! You see and learn so many things and it is so important that you live in those moments so you can take more with you when you’re no longer in these amazing places. I would also say if you are a student who is questioning a trip to just do it! These are once in a lifetime experiences and none of them I have ever regretted!
Pros
  • There are so many amazing things to see, do, and experience!
  • You learn so much and are presented with many opportunities to go outside of your comfort zone!
  • You spend great experiences, surrounded by great people!

Belize Therapy Abroad

My trip gave me so much clarity if I am interested in humanitarian audiology. I really enjoyed this trip and the experiences I was given. It taught me to be confident in the skills I learned and to be flexible and roll with the punches. I liked that we were able to screen at the airport. It was really interesting what we saw and how workers at the airport don’t use or even in the culture don’t have hearing protection. I think that really showed me that it different with protecting your hearing culturally especially in a place that is super loud.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I did was be able to see stuff I may not been able to see back at home until being in ENT. It showed me since there not audiologist here how people will wait till the next group here to get help.
Pros
  • Amazing experiences
  • Getting to collab with speech students
Cons
  • Iguana park was sad. Wouldn’t go back there.
  • Not organized/plans not solid
  • Food was not choice until end of trip
