Olivia Malherbe- TEFL Level 3

I enjoyed learning how to teach online.

I have experience with teaching in person but now I feel confident to teach online as well. I found that this course showed me many new websites and materials that I can use to aid in my online teaching. I have never taught learners older than 9 years old but I am English-speaking and know how the language is structured so I am excited to share my knowledge of English with learners who are not native English speakers.

I walk away feeling excited to teach which is a feeling I haven't felt in a while.

Great experience

I majored in English at university and TEFL still taught me things I never knew about English! That was really awesome. The course is challenging and pushes you it is not an easy and quick course it takes time and effort. The videos are very helpful and they provide you with lots of tools to help you along the way. My assignments were marked efficiently which helped me move on in the course faster. I never needed to use the help tab but it was always good to be reminded that it was there if I did

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve wrecking was the assignments as I was unfamiliar but after the first one I was more confident and i followed the instructions and used the tools they gave me.
Pros
  • Cost effective
  • Online
Cons
  • Expansion is expensive

Good

An inexpensive, comprehensive course tailored to meet the needs of both inexperienced and experienced teachers. The course was targeted at teaching online and in the classroom and gave great tips. The videos were good and gave ‘top TEFL tips’ which helped, and the lesson planning template was good.

I would say that one thing that the course lacked a little would be suggested lesson content. I know this can be hard to do as learners are often of different ages and abilities but this would have helped

I would definitely recommend this course

Perfect For Beginners

The online course provided information that I believe is very useful when beginning the TEFL journey. I learned so much and quickly finished the course in about 2-3 months. The support team was really helpful and graded my assignments according to their rubric. I thought they were going to take a week to respond, but they responded back with helpful information in a timely manner. They give great feedback on the assignments and give suggestions on what needs improvement. I would recommend this to those who want to start their TEFL journey as this course is beginner friendly.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I took the level 3 TEFL course. If I did this all over again, one thing I would change would be to take the level 5 course instead. I didn’t realize I would finish so quickly, so personally I could’ve done more hours.
Pros
  • Provide you with job, volunteer, and internship opportunities.
  • Offer top up courses to specialize in a particular area.

Honestly it's not so bad at all...

Going into the level 3 120-hour course I was excited but also hoped it wouldn't take me too long to finish and, in all honesty, I got it done in like 2.5 weeks and I was working a 9-5 so i dedicated like an hour a day but made sure I did my best to finish a module in a day. The content is good, and they have a bunch of extra resources as well for you to download so that was nice. So, if you are interested in doing this, I think it's worth it plus it's not so expensive either and I don't think it's necessary to go for the level 5 if you just want to get the certificate.

What would you improve about this program?
Maybe have one more assignment, or allow for mock lesson

Review from Lizel Joan Wicomb South Africa

I am so excited and happy to announce that I completed my TEFL Level 3 course. I found the course very interesting and interactive. It is easy to follow and very informative. Initially, I was more stressed out about the assignments but I ended up enjoying it so much. I even surprised myself with my innovation and creativity. So much so that I'm taking advantage of completing the free top-up courses. I also plan on upgrading to the TEFL Level 5 Diploma course.

I found the staff to be very supportive and friendly.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would complete this course sooner. I would not feel so stressed out about the Assignments.
Pros
  • Doing the course online.
  • Expanding my knowledge.
  • Adding another skill to my professional profile.
Cons
  • Procrastinating.
  • Stressing about the upcoming Assignments.
  • Not doing the course sooner.

TEFL Level 3 Course Review

I really enjoyed the course, because I have great interpersonal and communication skills.
It reminded me of my love for knowledge and imparting knowledge .

The course had clear instructions, breaking down the material logically and relating it to real-world examples. The course was relatable and easy to learn from.

It is great for entry level positions and helped me to identify some concepts to hep improve learning challenges in my day to day. I strongly recomend it.

Truly well designed

As a retired college professor, I was surprised at how well the course was designed. Consistent quizzes helped you understand the process without getting too far gone. I feel confident in delivering online classes to teach English.

I used a rinse-and-repeat method for the study time. I would go through it once, set it down for a day or two, then repeat the units and check if I learned something.

They let you take the test over if you need to. After finishing this course I want to teach business English online.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take your time. This course is flexible and will be a benefit .
Pros
  • Good pace
  • Well designed
Cons
  • Couple of goofy videos

TEFL course review

I complete the Combined Level 5 TEFL course and for someone who knew nothing of teaching and everything in between, I learned so much and I am fully equipped to teach others now. All the teachings, support and further explanations was very well done and easy to grasp. I enjoyed doing this course! I would strongly recommend this course and or any other course that TEFL proves. Firstly the duration of the course is not so long which makes it motivating to complete and it is for anyone to do. The fact that you do not have to have any prior experience proofs that by completing TEFL courses, they really teach you everything you need to know to stand before a class, teaching but also managing it.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
In this case I would not let there be the option for students to do all their assignments at the end of the course. Yes the tutors did say they do not recommend it but it was still up to you. I did all my assignments at the end because I though if I just finish all the units first it would be 'easier'. At the end, the idea of having to finish 3 assignments after finishing all the units, was a bit overwhelming. I think it does depend on person to person and it doesn't have a big effect but I would now recommend doing each assignment with the unit.
Pros
  • Easy access to further information.
  • Fast response from tutors.
  • Lots of information provided and increasing at a reasonable pace.
Cons
  • There is no cons!
