Great user friendly and informative course

I come from a background and strong interest in linguistics. I did this course as a refresher as I completed my TESOL course a long time ago. The material was informative and well-explained. I especially loved the interactive parts of each lesson as it broke up the reading very well.

As it's hard to cover everything about the grammatical structure of the English language and how to teach, there are external resources provided so that further reading can be completed. I recommend this course

  • Grammatical knowledge
  • New technology
  • Student support
Cons
  • Not enough online learning info

Awesome TEFL program

We moved from Ireland to Spain very recently and I was looking for a program that could help me get started with a teaching career. This program ticks all the boxes. It is informative and packed with enough information to get anyone ready for a new career or a change in career, and it's perfect for travellers wanting to work while they see the world! The tutors are helpful and supportive, and the constructive criticism after assignments makes it easy to move forward with any hurdle you could possibly encounter. I am very happy with the course and can recommend it to anyone looking to start teaching!

A great opportunity

I completed this course in order to gain further qualifications for the job I was already working at. I had a wonderful time completing this program despite taking a little bit longer than expected (I got married and had a baby in the meantime so ended up having to ask for several extensions) The course is extremely flexible which worked out great with all that was happening in my personal life. The material is accessible and presented in a very engaging manner, the test your knowledge quizzes at the end of each unit allow you to assess how well you've absorbed each unit as you go. The assignments are useful even beyond the course and the instructions for each assignment are clear and concise. I highly recommend the TEFL academy for anyone hoping to teach English abroad, they have a very thorough job board, and provide plenty of opportunities and internships to put your newly acquired knowledge to the test all over the world as well as online.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would have liked to have known about this program earlier in life because the travel opportunities and internships sound like a lot of fun and great for anyone's resume
Pros
  • Flexible
  • Affordable
  • Thorough
Cons
  • Expensive extensions
  • To get a Delta level qualification you'll need to buy add ons

TEFL level 5 Course

I had recently retired and was very stressed about finding work to supplement my pensionable income. I had been toying with the idea of teaching English online for awhile since I decided on taking early retirement from a very stressful job, working in the media industry. I put my mind to it and took up the TEFL level 5 course as I felt that was the highest that was available. I realized from the onset that it would be a lot of dedication that the hours needed for the course and all the extra reading and studying would take me at least 2 months. I must admit I did lose a little hope after the 3rd section realizing that I had forgotten so many grammar rules, and how would I remember them, but I buckled down and realized that a little hard work wouldn't kill anyone. The course is structured in a very logical way and the progression it took was invaluable. I can honestly say that now that I have completed the course, I really enjoyed it and felt ready to take on whatever would come my way. I feel equipped to be able to impart all this wonderful knowledge I possess to the many hungry students wanting to learn English. I know that my past expertise in the media industry and having many people under me which I mentored and taught, would assist me greatly in my new teaching career. I will be a very good teacher and am absolutely positive that having done this course was the best decision I have made. Thank you to The TEFL Academy for putting together an amazing course, may you continue to encourage new young and old upcoming teachers to a wonderful career in teaching English to foreign students.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Learning grammar rules that I had forgotten 45 years ago, but like Celine Dion sang " It's all coming back to me now! I little extra reading and I knew that in my heart of hearts I had made the right choice.
Pros
  • Getting to know the history of English
  • The wonderful extra sessions and google meets from those who are in the filed already
  • You are never alone in this!
Cons
  • The extra reading was daunting but once done it was worth it
  • The dedication needed was not realized right at the beginning
  • The stress of assignments.

Not what I expected

I am a impulsive person. One day in November 2024 I got stressed out about finances. I am a business owner and thing do get tough sometimes. So, impulsively, I enrolled for this TEFL course. I thought this was going to be a quick and easy online course. I'll do it in a week, get my certificate and off I go to China. Of course it's not that easy. What was I thinking?

I'll tell you this. This course has opened my eyes to possibilities. It has also prepared me for the BCom I am starting with in January 2025.

The (3) assignments in the TEFL Level 5 course are really challenging. This is what I've always expected from an online learning program. Not just multiple choice questions, but assignments that really challenge you and test your comprehension of the knowledge conveyed.

Since I am MD of my business, I have not yet decided how I want to use my new qualification. I want to get to a point where I can remove myself from the business' operations and then go do something else, something useful or perhaps start an online English school of my own. Or perhaps the most exciting of all, travel the world.

I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who are interested in a TEFL career. The program is well structured and the content is comprehensive.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
When I realised that this wasn't just some online course but a full-on diploma. Then, knowing that this is equivalent to 2nd year BCom, I got freaked out a little, because I just enrolled for BCom and I have not received any proper tertiary education to date. But, I spent the time, read the instructions for my assignments carefully and I successfully completed the course.

Also, the 10 hour practical training was quite intense but very educational.
Pros
  • Online
  • Self-Paced
  • In-depth content
Cons
  • Instructors do take a bit long to respond (albeit, I didn't need them that much)

My Personal Experience with The TEFL Academy

Deciding to get my TEFL certification was a big step, and after some research, I chose The TEFL Academy. Now that I’ve finished the course, I’m happy to share my thoughts with anyone considering it.

To start with, the course content was clear and easy to follow. It’s broken into sections that gradually build your knowledge, covering everything from grammar to lesson planning. What I really appreciated was how practical the advice was—it wasn’t just theory; it gave me ideas I could see myself using in a real classroom.

The tutors were fantastic. They were approachable, quick to respond, and their feedback on assignments was detailed and helpful. I always felt like they genuinely wanted me to do well, which made the experience feel much more supportive than I’d expected.

One of the best things about this course was its flexibility. As someone juggling work and other commitments, I loved being able to go through the materials at my own pace. That said, it does require self-motivation to keep on track, but the course design makes it manageable.
