My experience doing TEFL

This has been a truly unique experience for me personally. I was challenged with the coursework in only the best ways. It has taught me a lot that I otherwise wouldn’t have known about teaching the English language to others. It’s eye opening and something that i don’t regret doing, it’s given me the skills necessary to go further in my career and instilled hope and confidence in me. I would recommend this to anyone interested in broadening their knowledge and giving them insight into a new exciting experience and chance at a career.

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing I might improve about this program is to give a more in depth explanation of some of the coursework as some of it is very vague and a little hard to make sense of.
Pros
  • Gained knowledge
  • Gained confidence in my abilities
  • Gained new opportunities
Cons
  • Was challenged
  • Assignments were lengthy
  • Certain things were over complicated

A Rewarding Learning Journey

It equipped me with effective techniques for teaching English to a diverse range of students. Through ample case studies and activities, I was able to develop a more creative approach to lesson planning. Additionally, the feedback on each assignment allowed me to reflect on what I had learned throughout the course on an individual level. I truly appreciate the experience. I’m now excited to teach my students online and feel more confident in providing them with productive and practical lessons.

Excellent online study experience.

I was very fortunate to be able to complete the TEFL Online Level 5 Diploma during a quiet work period. I feel this course has added value to my 3.5 years experience in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It reassured me and gave me lots of new tips/ideas to take into the classroom. I have also completed 2 out of the 3 free top up courses that come with this course, so it is excellent value for money. The support from start to finish has been fantastic. I would highly recommend this course.

What would you improve about this program?
Internet resources are covered in the program, but I think more content on AI and using it in the classroom would be advantageous. It is inevitable students are going to use it. It would be great to have more tips on how to use it with our students, but still encourage use of other sources and tools.
Pros
  • Costs
  • Study from the comfort of your home.
  • Excellent Support
Cons
  • none

Great course

TEFL 5 English teaching course is great, it brought back high school memories. Somethings that I may have forgotten came to light, learned a lot of new teaching methods and tactics to tackle confusion whilst teaching this course also has given me a better understanding of the level of students (A1/A2, B1/B2 ,C1/C2) which has also assisted me in my current role as Learning Support Assistant.

The course also assists on CV and Cover letter templates and gives you the time and opportunity to complete the course at your pace.

What would you improve about this program?
More details in the assignment marking. It can get complicated when reading the secion marking (Y/N) which i now got the hang of.

Great all round experience

Very comprehensive course, however, some of the material is rather technical. I loved the very comprehensive feedback on all the assignments. Very responsive student and admin support teams. Highly recommend this course especially if you don't have a teaching degree. It's practical, hands-on material enables you to hit the ground running in your teaching career! Challenged my brain to think outside the box at times, big challenge at my age. Excellent experience overall! Highly recommended, be prepared to work hard.

What was your funniest moment?
I sent student support an enquiry about one of the assignments. As I hit send I realised the answer was staring at me in my face! Needless to say, I was red-faced when the tutor responded! It was just a senior moment! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Pros
  • Comprehensive course material - helps build a solid foundation for teaching.
  • Flexible - online learning helps to juggle other responsibilities
  • Excellent Support: tutors are responsive and highly knowledgeable. Detailed feedback on assignments, which really helps in developing your skills.
Cons
  • Workload - was feel overwhelming at times, if you're not used to a lot of self-study or if you're juggling other responsibilities.
  • No interaction with peers - lack of in-person interaction may not be ideal for those who thrive in human contact environment.
  • Cost to apply for an extension, quite high.

TEFL Online Review for Assistance

I had a lack of confidence at first when starting my TEFL at the TEFL Academy.

They usually say online you would have support but the institution fails to do so however I can't say the same with the TEFL Academy. Their level of standard is high and they are always willing to make your journey easy as a student.

The amount of feedback you get as a student supports you by correcting any errors. If I don't know anything I have just been taught feel free to message your tutor they are the best and will help you with any question.

What was your funniest moment?
When I submitted assigment c but missed out on a document she kindly reminded me and I had a great laugh about it because of the well constructed feedback she gave me and I did not fail the assignment.
Pros
  • Establish Better Vocab
  • Establish Confidence
  • Engaging with people around the world

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I got a fright when I submitted my first assignment and it took 3 weeks for me to get my results, and once contacting the TEFL academy, a very nice lady helped me almost immediately and apologised as the tutor had marked my assignment but forgot to release the results, I thought this was a funny accident and didn’t make a big fuss about it, but then they gave me a 3 week extension for the course due to the inconvenience. I was very impressed!
Pros
  • Easy to navigate
  • On-the-go access
  • You can leave the assignments for another day when you’ve got more time
Cons
  • 6 months feels very short for 10 modules
  • No WiFi means you can access your modules
  • I honestly can’t think of more cons

Excellent

Learning online is made really easy, instructions are clear and the course is structured in an organized manner. Video Tutorials make the online experience enjoyable. The course outline is appropriate for the course and is quite educational. I enjoyed the test of your knowledge that allows you to test several times to make sure you got the concepts. The case study and examples are clear.l liked that you could find useful links eg BBC English which were very informative and interesting. making the course engaging.

What would you improve about this program?
I enjoyed going to class and meeting other Tefl students ,so definitely l would advocate for more face to face classes, it's very motivating.

  • Educative
  • Fun
  • Managing at your own pace
