My Epic Summer With TFT

This summer, I went Greece with Travel for Teens! The whole experience was top tier, from the cultural immersion, to the adventure, to the insane views. Visiting the Acropolis was unreal; standing with so much history is something I’ll never forget. We explored the Temple of Poseidon, which really made my head spin--there were ancient Greeks praying right where I was standing! The Ottoman fortress we explored was also insane, there was a battle there! We also took a boat tour around Paros, which was amazing, jumping off, swimming to isolated beaches and exploring random islands with your buddies. And of course, Santorini lived up to the hype. Scuba diving there was a highlight--my first time, and I was hooked. After a long school year, the mix of adventure and downtime was perfect. The beaches were beautiful and the perfect spot to just relax. The group was great, everyone was chill and wanted to have a great time. We all ended up laughing over the gelato runs every night. Overall, it was the perfect balance of learning, exploring, and taking in out of this world views. If you’re looking for an experience to MAKE your summer, this is the one for you

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I did in Greece was scuba dive. It was my first time, and diving surrounded by giant walls of volcanic rock was unlike anything I've ever done or seen. Seeing the marine life and just the experience of looking up, realizing you are 20 feet underwater, is amazing. It opened my eyes up to a new world of beauty that I never experienced living in the US.
Pros
  • Food
  • Activities
  • People

Australia, NZ, Fiji service

Overall the trip was a very fun and rewarding trip. A lot of my time in Fiji was spent doing very fun service. We worked with young kids at a local school and helped to improve their school buildings. In Australia, we did a lot of sight seeing. We also did lots of scuba diving and swimming at the great barrier reef. In Sydney, it was more walking and sight seeing which was also very fun and different. In NZ we did a lot of cultural immersion and adventure. This part of the trip was very fun and refreshing. Overall the trip was very fun and rewarding and I would recommend it to anyone.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?

Croatia Island Hopping!

Croatia island hopping is one of the best experiences I have had with Travel for Teens. From hanging out on a boat all day with all of my new friends to hiking and swimming! The staff is very well trained helping me from the moment I got my phone stolen finding me a store to buy a new one and even helping me set it up. Everyone is very welcoming and is willing to help. The boat is small but it leads to a great time and lots of bonding experiences! The trip is an always changing trip where you are moving day by day so be ready for lots of changing plans.

  • Lots of down time

Most amazing two weeks!

The trip started off with a few delays in flights, but our counselors and group just took the opportunity to bond even closer! When we made it to Waikiki we started the trip off with a nice, relaxing walk around the area and some great food. The next few days were filled with surfing, beach time, Pearl Harbor, and bonding. Then, we left for Maui. In Maui we stayed at an amazing hotel, about a 5 minute walk from the beach. Our service leaders were so kind, and we got to help clean up beaches, learn about wildlife in the area, go snorkeling with turtles and fish, learn about coral reefs, and even visit an aquarium with a sea turtle rehabilitation area. The food on this trip was amazing, we got to try hawaiian poke, acai bowls, shave ice, and more. Plus, the people and counselors that made up our group made it even better. From working together on our service trips to hanging out at the hotel pool after dinner, our group was so tightly knit, even with how different we all are. Going on this trip brought me so amazing friends from all around the globe. The counselors on this trip were amazing as well. Even though they are older than all of us teens on the trip, they felt like friends throughout the two weeks. They hung out with us by the pool and beach, and took pictures with us by the sunsets. Overall, this trip was absolutely amazing and I loved my experience so much!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go into this trip with an open mind, no matter if you are traveling with a friend or solo. I went solo but there were tons of people who came together, we all became so close and still talk to this day.
Pros
  • meeting new people
  • trying new food
  • exploring a new place
Cons
  • little bumps in the road with travel - flight delays that we could not change

Best 2 weeks of my life!

Obviously as a teen, it can be stressful traveling across the world alone. Travel For Teens does a phenomenal job of easing stress and making your experience as smooth as possible! The night before my trip my flights to Greece got canceled. My trip coordinator already had me on new flights before I even knew my flight was canceled! The staff go above and beyond to make the trip fun for everyone on the trip. There is an itinerary but it is not set in stone and the counselors are super flexible with incorporating everyone’s wishes into the schedule! There is not a company I would trust more with traveling abroad. My specific group traveled to Athens, Delphi, Lefkada, Naples, Sorrento, Positano, Capri, and Rome. I would not trade the experience for the world and I have new friendships that will last a life time.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Calamari! It is fried baby octopus and I was so nervous but I ended up liking it and ordering it at future restaurants!
Pros
  • Organized
  • Flexible
  • Always something to do!
Cons
  • Expensive

Spain and Portugal are Amazing!

During the summer of 2023 I took a trip to Spain and Portugal with Travel for Teens. We explored many parts of both countries, and a couple stood out above the rest. I vividly remember scuba diving off the coast of Lagos, Portugal with a really fun group of people that I still keep in touch with today. We saw an octopus and it even shot some ink at us as it zoomed away. That day was one of my favorites I have ever had in my life, and it would not have been possible without TFT. Another highlight of the trip was the group of people I got to experience it with. If I had been traveling with my family or on my own I could have still visited the same places, but I wouldn’t have gotten the same experience or the lifelong connections that I ended up with. The nights in my hotel room playing cards and talking with the others on the trip could not be replaced by anything. I would highly recommend taking a trip with TFT, and I am absolutely thrilled that I decided to.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The only thing I would have changed was that I would have gone to Morocco with the trip instead of going home after Spain and Portugal. It was a great trip and I just wanted to experience more of it! There were 2 trips which were connected and I chose the shorter one, but next time I would do the full experience.

TFT December 2023 trip to Thailand

I heard about TFT from my friend in the United States who had used TFT before, and he told me that he had a fantastic experience. He shared some photos of places he had visited, which were terrific. Upon arriving in Thailand, I met the TFT group counselor at the airport and headed to the hotel. On our way to the hotel, we stopped at the 911 shop, got some snacks, and continued our journey. After one hour, we finally arrived, and they showed us the rooms where we were staying. We later went to the village for community service, which was amazing because we learned how to cook Thai food! Then we went to the elephant farm, fed the elephants, and learned a lot. We went for a bike ride on the rice farm and saw how they plant rice, which was a good experience for those of us who had never seen anything like that. Later, we headed back to the hotel, and the TFT counselor called everyone for a meeting where they spoke to us about their expectations of our conduct, briefed us on the itinerary that had been shared with us before, and then proceeded to dinner. The following day, we headed to the island by a boat, and it took us around 2 hours. Once we arrived, everyone was so excited to see the beautiful blue ocean and forgot the long journey. We had an exciting time exploring many cities in Thailand, and I took lots of photos for memories. I never knew the beauty that existed in Thailand until I went there myself.

My teen tour trip

This summer was my first time going on a teen tour. I had so many fun experiences like zip lining, seeing and helping sea turtles and making new friends throughout the entire trip. Everyday was so much fun learning about the culture and seeing things that you don’t have back at your home. We learned how to adapt to the culture that is all around us.The foods you try you will want to bring back to your family and friends to spread the experience. I liked that the tour allows you to have your phones but you really never want to be on your phone while away. The only times are to talk to your family and to take photos. The counselors are so outgoing, positive and fun to be with and talk to. They take such good care of you trying to make sure you have the best trip possible. There’s so many to choose from that your kids will have an amazing time making many memories.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I tried pineapple on my cheese burger.
Pros
  • Meeting new friends
  • Getting to know people from different places
  • Doing fun new adventures
Cons
  • Not knowing anyone
  • Had to get use to new foods
  • Flighting by myself to meet everyone
