Proof You Should Just Go For It!

I completed the Beyond Academy Immersive Internship Program in Seoul, where I did a fashion internship, and I genuinely cannot recommend it enough. This experience has honestly been life-changing and has shaped me into such a new version of myself.

Beyond Academy helped me grow in ways I didn’t even realise I needed. My skills developed so much, but more than anything, my confidence grew massively. Living and working abroad pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible, and I now feel way more comfortable in my work, in new environments, and in myself overall. I’ve come away feeling inspired, motivated, and so much more sure of what I’m capable of.

One of my favourite parts of the program was the weekly events Beyond Academy organised. They were genuinely so fun and such a good way to explore Seoul, meet new people, and actually say yes to things I probably wouldn’t have done otherwise. They really helped push me out of my comfort zone, and we got to experience so many traditional Korean activities, which was honestly amazing and made the whole experience feel super immersive and special.

The support from the Beyond Academy team was incredible from start to finish. There was always someone there if you needed a chat, some advice, or support if something didn’t feel quite right. Everyone on the team is genuinely so kind, welcoming, and supportive — some of the loveliest people I’ve met — and it made such a difference knowing you were never doing this experience alone.

I’ve also made the most amazing friends from all over the world, friendships I know I’ll have for life. If you’re thinking about doing an internship abroad and want something that helps you grow professionally and personally while still being fun, exciting, and supportive, I couldn’t recommend Beyond Academy more. This experience has given me confidence, clarity, and memories I’ll cherish forever!!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My biggest advice would be to say yes to everything (even if it feels a little scary at first). You’ll grow the most when you step out of your comfort zone, whether that’s meeting new people, trying new things, or putting yourself out there at your internship. Take advantage of all the weekly events Beyond Academy organises — they’re such a fun way to explore, make friends, and fully experience the city.

Also, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to have everything figured out. It’s okay to learn as you go — that’s literally the point of the experience. Be open, be curious, and let yourself enjoy it. This program gives you so much support, so lean into it and don’t be afraid to ask for help or talk to the team if you need anything.

Most importantly, enjoy every moment. It goes by so quickly, and you’ll come out of it with so much more confidence, amazing memories, and friendships for life!!

Tokyo 3 month internship

I did a 3 month internship as a UI/UX designer. I feel like there's not much online about beyond academy. It is a legit company and I didn't realized they do so many activities while you're there. The accommodation was so clean and in a really good area in Japan. I know some people didn't have great placements but if you go into the interviews unafraid to say no you should find an internship you like! Thats what I did and it was an unforgettable experience. I definitely think it was worth the money.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Getting to my accomodation but they pick you up which is so nice!
Pros
  • Organised
  • Respond fast
  • Supportive
Cons
  • Unsure before I got there
  • Events are always the same day

My internship in Tokyo was fantastic since the moment I applied! Beyond academy helps you every step of the way with your journey abroad. They guide you before you even get to the country and help you navigate this new challenge!

On top of that, not only was I able to get some work experience in my field of choice, I also got to participate in fun events every week and meet other interns! I definitely recommend joining the program and would do it again! Got to meet great people and experience a completely new culture! Unforgettable experience!

A Valuable and Meaningful Internship Experience in Berlin

My internship in Berlin was a highly enriching experience that allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. I gained hands-on experience in my field and learned how to work effectively in an international environment. Being trusted with real tasks helped me build confidence and better understand how my skills apply in a professional setting.

Living in Berlin added greatly to the experience. The city’s diverse culture, vibrant atmosphere, and strong sense of creativity made it an exciting place to live and work. Adjusting to a new country and meeting people from different backgrounds helped me become more independent and adaptable. Overall, this internship abroad was extremely valuable, and I am grateful for the opportunity.

What was your funniest moment?
When I attended a soccer game, I asked a question to a person my age next to me in German. He then replied in English, and found out he was American like me. The chances of two Americans sitting next to each other in a stadium in Berlin with over 50,000 people in it was crazy and funny to me.
Pros
  • I loved all the food and drink I had. The bakeries were amazing and I was sure to have some German classics like the schnitzels, döner kebabs, and some of the beer were incredible.
  • The public transportation was great. Especially coming from a smaller town in America, I had never really used public transport, after a few days of learning, I realized I could go anywhere!
  • Attending sports games like soccer and hockey was so much fun. The fan atmosphere iin Germany is insane.
Cons
  • At times, the language barrier was difficult adapting to. While I speak A2 German, I was able to get by, but it was difficult sometimes going a whole day without speaking my own language.
  • While public transportation was very convenient, there were defenitley nights where I had to keep my guard up a little bit on the trains, although I never did feel truly unsafe.
  • Trains across the country were a little more expensive than I thought. While I have no regrets taking trains to visit other cities such as Munich, Dortmund, Leipzig, etc. I was a little surpised that it could sometimes be over 100 Euro to get there
Response from Beyond Academy

Hey Andrew, thanks so much for sharing your experience! We’re so happy to hear your Berlin internship was such a great mix of hands-on work and city adventures. It sounds like you got to really dive in, gain confidence, and soak up everything Berlin has to offer, exactly what we hope for every intern!

We’re thrilled it was such a valuable experience for you.

Tokyo Internship Review

My internship experience in Tokyo through Beyond Academy was truly unforgettable. From the moment I applied, the Beyond Academy team was supportive, organized, and attentive to every detail. They helped match me with an internship that aligned with my interests and career goals, and the placement ended up being a valuable learning opportunity.

Living and working in Tokyo was something I’ve been wanting to do for a while and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Thanks to Beyond Academy my transition was very smooth. They arranged comfortable accommodations, offered cultural guidance, and hosted events that allowed me to meet my now very close friends and explore the city together. The friends I’ve met here have become very important people in my life and I never felt lost or alone, as there was always someone available to help.

My host company trusted me with real responsibilities, and encouraged me to contribute my ideas, while also not putting too much pressure on me. Through this internship, I gained practical experience and improved my professional skills. It’s an experience that has broadened my perspective and made me more confident as a young professional.

Beyond Academy also organized fun activities and cultural excursions for every week that made the overall program feel well-rounded and thoughtfully designed. Other than the set activities, the events always vary, making every week different and exciting. Some of my favorite memories were the Tea Ceremony in Kimonos, TeamLabs and an all you can eat cafe!
I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and would highly recommend Beyond Academy to anyone looking to gain international work experience, grow personally and professionally, and explore one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The Cosplay scene was incredible. Especially since I was there during Halloween, I got to experience Tokyo’s vivid Halloween with everyone dressing up and having fun. On Halloween, it seemed that everyone was friends and just there to enjoy the night. Even outside of special events, you will see people walking around in Anime cosplays or various costumes.
Pros
  • Meeting new friends
  • Experiencing the city in-depth
  • Improving professional skills
Response from Beyond Academy

It’s wonderful to know that the Beyond Academy team, your host company, and the weekly activities all contributed to a smooth transition and a well-rounded, memorable experience. Hearing that you feel more confident and connected makes us so happy!

Barcelona Internship

My internship in Barcelona was an amazing experience that went far beyond just professional growth. The company I was paired with was genuinely interesting and educational, and Beyond makes sure that you are supported and have a sense of community throughout your stay. However, what truly made the experience stand out were the people. From our community coordinator to my fellow peers, I met some of the most interesting people and was lucky enough to form friendships.

By the end of the internship, I left not only more confident and capable, but with an established community in the city. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and it would recommend it to anyone interested.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My most nerve-racking moment was definitely the first 24 hours after arriving. Everything felt new, and I had no idea what to expect. I was nervous about if I was going to make friends with the interns and how life outside work would be, but that feeling disappeared almost instantly after attending the first event with the program coordinator and the other interns. The welcoming atmosphere made it easy to relax, connect, and realize that everyone was in the same boat. From that point on, the experience felt exciting rather than intimidating.
Pros
  • Location + Social Life
  • Events + Community Coordination
Cons
  • Experience in internship varies depending on the company
Response from Beyond Academy

Thank you so much for sharing your experience Samantha! We’re thrilled to hear that your internship in Barcelona was both professionally rewarding and personally memorable, and that you were able to build friendships and feel supported by the community team.

It’s wonderful to know you left more confident and connected, your reflections mean a lot to us!

Great experience, definitely worth it!

Beyond Academy has provided me with a great internship experience. At my host company, I created digital elements that are going to be published in an app. I learned so much about the company and what its like to work in Japan. You will definitely contribute to meaningful work which will give a great boost to your professional resume. The weekly events were also great and allowed me to make so many friends and explore Tokyo outside of just work. The coordinators were also so kind and supportive of us. Overall I would genuinely recommend this experience!

Response from Beyond Academy

Great experience

I completed an internship with Beyond Academy this month in Tokyo. I was there for 6 weeks. While my host company maybe wasn’t the best fit for me, I am grateful for the overall experience, and the community team in Tokyo did everything they could to make the experience good for everyone. The only thing I will say is that you will not be guaranteed accommodation with other Beyond Academy interns - so it might be harder to make friends with other members if you’re not in the same accommodation/close together. Overall, I had a good experience, and can’t fault the community team.

Response from Beyond Academy

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us Scarlette. We’re so happy to hear that you enjoyed your internship overall, and that the Tokyo Community Team was able to support you throughout your placement.

We also wanted to clarify that, as we communicate to all interns, we work with multiple accommodation providers. While we do our best to place interns together where possible, it is not a guarantee that all interns will live in the same location. We understand this can make connecting with fellow interns a bit more challenging, but we’re thrilled that your overall experience was positive.

We truly appreciate your reflections and wish you all the best with your future endeavors.

A great experience!

They try their best to accommodate, help, and socialize as much as they can. Obviously, they can’t accommodate for everything, but they try their best to find good living conditions. Mine were pretty good, it was just the people that were living with me that I sometimes wouldn’t see eye-to-eye with, which isn’t their fault. The activities were engaging and fun, and the various workshops they held were also very intriguing and fun. The city was a vibe and the employees were very helpful, even with problems they didn’t necessarily have to concern themselves with.

Best decision post graduation!

Beyond Academy was the best decision I made post-graduation. Japan has always been a place I wanted to visit (as my grandad used to work there) and now having worked, lived and travelled around Japan, it has become a pinnacle moment of my youth and is helping me navigate my future goals. The support from friends and community coordinators made it that much more enjoyable and easy, everyone was there to welcome and support one another. Take that nervous next step, because I promise you it will be worth it, fortune always favours the brave.
