Great internship program!

I have really enjoyed my time in Barcelona on the Beyond Academy internship program! Our community coordinator, Isabel, was excellent, she was always on hand to help and led some fantastic community events that helped us discover parts of the city we wouldn't have otherwise & experience typical events like flamenco and tapas! The community aspect is great to meet other interns on the program and is well-organised.

My internship was not completely as expected, something that was not the fault of Beyond, and Beyond worked hard to provide appropriate solutions and support throughout this so my program was still meaningful to my professional growth. They also run a careers workshop and 1-to-1 meeting during your program, which were great to supplement your internship.

Interning abroad is such a fun, worthwhile & exciting opportunity, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested!

Thank you to the Beyond Academy team, especially to Isabel & Olivia!! 🚀✨

Pros
  • Great community events
  • Great support from the Beyond team
  • Beautiful & exciting city to discover

Tokyo internship experience review

It’s hard to put the whole 6 months of my time in Japan in a short review but here goes!

I have gained so much from my time here and through the internship I ended up doing! I’m a photographer and landed an internship that basically had me capturing marketing visuals for their companies. My boss was so helpful and taught me so much and I was lucky enough to really gain vital experiences in my field! I was lucky as not every intern had a perfect fit, but I’m super grateful I did!

The social and cultural side of the experience was as great if not better! The interns were an integral part of my time here, and I made great new friends! The coordinators were there for every problem or question that arose and always knew where to point, even if there was no answer available at the exact moment. All in all, I would definitely recommend stepping outside your comfort zone and giving it a try!

Also, regarding the internship, it really does depend on YOU whether you enjoy or get the most out of it! The more you ask and push your company to give you more things, the more you will get. It’s not just enough to sit there and think that once you get to Japan, the rest will come to you.

Do it!

I just concluded a 6 month program, and I can solidly say it was one of the best decisions I've made. Sure, the cost is not cheap but it's still a better deal than other similar programs, and after meeting other interns from other companies that offer internships in Japan, I can say with confidence I'm very glad I went with Beyond. The support was amazing, and I loved the coordinators, especially Stephanie and Olivia, who were there the entire duration of my program. I will be honest, what you get out of this is what you make of it, so as long as you're dedicated and set on having a once in a lifetime experience, you're going to be glad you chose this!

What was your funniest moment?
We had a barbecue, and my Bulgarian friend kept talking about how Bulgaria secretly controls both Russia and USA
Pros
  • Location
  • Sightseeing
  • Food
Cons
  • Tokyo summers are hot

So much fun

This program was super fun and well organized. The community coordinators were very kind and welcoming to the interns and were always there to provide us with advice and lend us a listening ear if we ever needed one. The coordinators were very open to suggestions in terms of community events which was great, they made sure everyone would be included and always felt safe (shout out to Olivia and Stephanie <3)

The Beyond team was very efficient at securing an interview for a potential host company and provided me with many resources in order to prepare me for the interview. This was my first ever “big” interview and with their advice, I was able to secure a position at the first company found!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would definitely like to stay for longer as I had so much fun and 8 weeks was not long enough. It went by so fast
Pros
  • Great community
  • Easy communication
Cons
  • Accomodation wasnt as expected

London Internship

Choosing to do an internship with Beyond Academy turned out to be one of the most impactful experiences of my life. I had no idea what to expect going into it, but the leaders that assisted with the community program in London were so helpful and really played a vital part in my integration into the lifestyle of the UK. I appreciated the thought that went into all of the events planned for us each month as well as the resources that were at our disposal. I think that the expenses of the trip may have been overestimated, however I do appreciate that this was a gateway for me to get to where I want to be. I did score a full time job from the internship and I will be forever grateful for this experience.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would say definitely solo travel a few times and learn how to be comfortable on your own. It will benefit you in ways you can’t imagine until you do it.
Pros
  • Overcoming obstacles on your own
  • Absolute independence, consistently learning how to make better decisions for yourself
  • Learning to adapt in every way
Cons
  • Unexpected Expenses
  • Finding decent housing
  • Having to budget and sacrifice

Internship in Seoul

Seoul is a perfect city to live in for a while because it gives you the opportunity to experience something completely different and full of new experiences. When I started my experience in Seoul with Beyond, from the very first moment, the group of coordinators was the best helping me in every possible way to make our experience as good as possible by organizing many interesting and fun activities.

Regarding the internship itself, I have to say that you have to be a bit specific when choosing what you want to work in and make sure that the company is the right one and that you think you will learn. In my case, I had to change companies because I wasn't working exactly what I wanted, but when I moved to the second company, my work experience improved considerably.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Try to get as much insight into Korean culture as possible by visiting neighbourhoods where tourists don't go and getting a deeper insight into authentic Korean society. I feel like I lived as one of them and it has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life.
Pros
  • Meeting great people
  • Cultural Immersion
  • Self Growth
Cons
  • Career Accuracy
  • Lack of work opportunity after the internship
  • Visa problems as a long term intern

Beyond Academy Tokyo Internship

I am glad I chose Beyond Academy for my internship in Tokyo, the staff were very helpful with any questions that I had leading up to the experience, and the community events during the program were both educational and fun. Through the housing accommodation, I was able to make many great friends who were also participating in Beyond Academy, and the experience of living in Tokyo was all around amazing! The community coordinators were able to assist us with any questions that we had and made the overall experience very fun!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I did the program over again, I would make sure to schedule more solo traveling events and travel to more cities close to Tokyo.
Pros
  • Good food
  • Adequate support
  • Amazing friends
Cons
  • A bit far from the city center
  • I wish there were even more community events
  • I had to pay for my own flights, which made it more expensive

Interesting Experience

I had a lot of fun during my internship experience! The coordinators were very friendly and helpful throughout my time in Seoul! I think new people should know to be very specific in what they want from this program, including the industry and type of company they want to work at! But the social experience led me to meet a lot of friendly and cool people, and the community was always trying to give us different cultural experiences each Thurs/Sun! All in all, it was a fun experience and I enjoyed the company I interned at but being very adaptable will help you a lot for this program!

What would you improve about this program?
Being a bit more transparent on their company seeking process, letting future interns know the limitations of companies within specific industries and not setting their expectations for a 100% perfect match to what they are seeking.
Pros
  • Meeting fun new people
  • Experiencing cultural experiences
  • Exploring new/unfamiliar areas
Cons
  • Lack of a language learning assistance
  • Unclear communication on certain aspects
  • Visa limitations, and no precautions for unpredictable situations related to

Internship in Seoul

I joined the Seoul Internship and was really impressed by how well-organized and supportive the Seoul Community Support team was. They were easy to contact and created fun and interesting events for us to attend during the internship and helped us understand different cultural cues and nuances. They are a separate team from the internship placement team and are living and working in Seoul.

I loved Seoul, it was a great city to experience as someone who 'worked there' rather than as a tourist.

In terms of the internship placement team, I would recommend applicants are extremely clear about the placement experience they want to ensure you are placed on an internship you would actually find enjoyable. Otherwise, you may be placed on something you may not have expected that isn't really what you want to do!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be clear about your internship expectations and ask questions about what day-to-day work you will be doing before accepting the internship.

Also, have a list of things you want to see and do in Seoul or South Korea BEFORE you go. Its such a lovely city but has an overwhelming amount of sites/experiences and things to do, so plan your personal list beforehand to ensure you get everything you want to do , done , during your internship! As most of the weekdays you will be occupied with work and only have after work and weekends free to explore.
Pros
  • Living In Central Seoul
  • Cultural Immersion
  • Seoul Community Team and Events! They Were Great!
Cons
  • Job/ Internship Matching Accuracy
  • Lack Of Networking Events With Seoul Companies/Across Companies

Design, discover and thrive (in Barcelona)

My internship in Barcelona was an unforgettable journey of growth. The program provided invaluable hands-on learning, and the vibrant city added so much inspiration. Meeting Leticia, our incredible community leader, was a highlight—her unwavering support and guidance made the experience even more enriching. The connections I built with fellow interns were priceless, and the cultural immersion was unforgettable and a part that I will cherish. I highly recommend this program for anyone seeking a creative and nurturing environment.
