I would definitely recommend Teaching Nomad!

Amidst a global pandemic, I was worried that my dreams of teaching abroad were dashed. However, with the help of Teaching Nomad, I was able to persevere and am now teaching abroad in Shanghai, China! I have an amazing position at a prestigious school. Teaching here, I feel very supported by my community of fellow teachers, parents, and students. There is a level of professional respect for teachers that inspires me to teach to my highest potential! I want to thank all of the staff at Teaching Nomad who helped me to obtain my TEFL certification, get hired at my current position, and go through the Visa process to move from the US to China. I highly recommend working with Teaching Nomad to help make your international teaching dreams come true!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I was very concerned that I would not be able to travel abroad due to the travel limitations set forth from the global pandemic. However, with the support of Teaching Nomad and my school, I was able to overcome this hurdle and make it to China!

Excellent Experience

I am not teaching language of any type. I am a science teacher. The local govt. where I am going to teach suddenly decided all foreign teachers had to have a TEFL certificate. Teaching Nomad's online TEFL course was a lifesaver. I opted to do the instructorless option. I was able to go at my own speed and did not have to attend online lectures. This was key as I was already teaching full time. Their course educated me on how to teach English as a foreign language if I ever need to. Overall I had a great experience and would recommend this for anyone who may need a TEFL certificate but does not teach English.

What would you improve about this program?
This instructorless option was perfect for my situation. If you were an experienced teacher, this course would probably be quite adequate for you. If it is your first time teaching overseas, or if you are going to a school where you will not have much support, you would probably want the option that comes with an instructor.

Thank you Teaching Nomad for helping me to land my first teach job! You guys are terrific.

Jayne, who was my Placement Consultant, is super professional and very helpful. She listened to my needs and gave me the leads accordingly, which I ended up landing a teaching job with one of the most reputable teaching center in Shanghai, China. She also followed up with me from time to time to see how I was doing and also invited me to teacher network event, which I find is a great opportunity to network with other teachers in Shanghai. This shows she really cares about their users. I would definitely continue to use Teaching Nomad's service. I highly recommended their service to others.

Teaching Nomad Review

I had taught in China a year before using Teaching Nomad at a training school and had quite a mixed experience due to the management of the school. I decided to work at a kindergarten the next time and used Teaching Nomad to help find a school.

I was looking for a kindergarten that was away from the big cities like Beijing and Shanghai but still connected enough to be able to travel around. My adviser, Moira, was excellent- she listened to all the things I wanted from a school and was able to find me a placement that worked for me very quickly. She also answered any questions I had in regards to the process of getting out to china, health insurance and the area the school was in. Due to the pandemic it's quite difficult to find schools in China right now and I wouldn't have found what looks to be a great school without her help.

Looking forward to travelling out to Foshan when the borders open!

What would you improve about this program?
Maybe information about certain popular teaching locations could be compiled and sent as an email to have like a summary of different areas in China that has information relevant to teachers and expats in general.

Great Choice

Helped me from the very start, which for me was trying to decide which TEFL certification to go with. From there my consultant, Moira, helped me with the documents I needed, gave me resume tips, sent off my profile to various schools even before my certification was complete, and gave me interview tips when the schools wanted to meet me. Thanks to help Moira and teaching nomad provided, I have just signed a contract with a higher than normal salary for a first time teacher. Now they are helping me out with authenticating my documents and my application for a visa :)

What would you improve about this program?
No improvements to note. Super helpful and great customer service :)

Sylvia Spanos: a great recruiter

I have been working with Sylvia Spanos (teacher recruitment) for several months during the COVID confusion...I was an international school teacher looking for my next position abroad. She has helped me through many problems and is always so friendly, supportive, and reliable. Sylvia is solution-oriented and reaches out to me often throughout the recruitment process. Through several job offers, Sylvia was there to make sure I got the proper contract terms and conditions I wanted. I will continue to work with her as long as I pursue international school teaching. Thanks Sylvia!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
For teachers abroad, it is the best idea to find a good recruiter, build a relationship with them, and then you can trust them. There are so many UNreliable recruitment agents and companies out there now. Teaching Nomad has been very good to me.

Teaching Nomad has helped me for about 3 years!

My first job in Taiwan was through utilizing Teaching Nomad back in 2016. Every year, I always went back to Teaching Nomad to get them to help me find a new teaching position! Just recently, I had the pleasure of having Sylvia Spanos be my advisor for this upcoming semester. I loved that she was patient, always searching for jobs that matched my criteria, and did well to communicate across two different time zones!

I would recommend Teaching Nomad! Thank you for all the help throughout the years!

I became a better teacher because of this!

I feel as though I learned how to become a better teacher because of this program. The teachers gave me great feedback after every teaching practice and I got the chance to improve my teaching skills with each practice. I also received great resources that I'll be using in the continuation of my teaching career and I made great friends in the class that I'm still in connection with. We learned how to create a through out written lesson plan, the different things we need to be aware of such as teaching online v.s teaching in person and teaching groups who have different level of learning.

What would you improve about this program?
I would say that the program can improve by staying in the 2 hour classes when it comes to lectures.

My experience in my TEFL course with Teaching Link

I am happy to tell that Teaching Link helped me a lot to improve as a professional in ESL teaching. I learnt a lot in the course and I reviewed some techniques and principles I haven't got in touch thoroughly in college. I remembered such lessons and I can happily say that they helped me to reassure my ESL teaching performance and to apply such principles in my teaching practice. Moreover, I got a really nice certification that allows me to teach abroad in any country I want to go to. I believe this is one of the nicest experiences I've ever had.

What would you improve about this program?
As I told before, the Grammar guide was good and condensed. However, I would like a section about preffixes and suffixes to be included in a nearby future in the guide.
