TEFL Heaven- an excellent springboard to overseas opportunities

Enrolling in the TEFL Heaven Internships Thailand course was the best decision I could've made post-graduation. It gave me the opportunity to explore my career interests in a safe environment. It also opened my eyes to the plentiful options that exist for overseas employment. Although I decided that I didn't want to pursue a career in teaching upon returning to the U.S., I did figure out that I wanted to work within the field of International Education in an administrative capacity. The experience that TEFL Heaven cultivated abroad has since led me to pursue a Master's degree in International Education.

What would you improve about this program?
The on-site staff could be more transparent about the cultural shock that may be experienced if a teacher moves to a town where there are no other foreigners. I think that in the excitement of placement, teachers overlook this factor, settle in at their schools, and later feel isolated. Although this is a natural reaction to the challenges of cultural immersion, I think that it should still be addressed in a pre-departure session hosted by TEFL Heaven on intercultural communication and health/wellness abroad.

I'm so glad I did TEFL Heaven :)

I really loved my experience with TEFL Heaven, I met so many amazing friends and we had a lot of fun on the course! We stayed in a lovely room on Koh Lipe and were taught in a classroom with views of the beach (which was a bit heartbreaking when sitting in the classroom haha), lunch breaks were amazing though! TEFL Heaven were really nice at trying to place us in schools near out friends too :). After 4 years I'm still teaching in Thailand, I've also started making videos about my life here you can check out my youtube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/teachercola

TEFL Heaven Koh Samui

After many hours spent looking up which TEFL organization to work with in Thailand, I can confidently say that choosing TEFL Heaven was the best decision I've ever made. As I'm sure many people are when they are preparing to move to another country where they don't know a single soul, I was nervous (and extremely cautious) throughout the whole process, and, from the first moment I received my acceptance, TEFL Heaven's staff made those nerves go away. They genuinely care about their participants and will go out of their way to help anyone who has any issues. If you are worried about having a support system here in Thailand, know that if you choose TEFL Heaven you will have SO many great people looking out for you, and you will never feel like you're on your own.

Regarding the TEFL course itself, my three weeks in Koh Samui were some of the best of my life. The trainers are amazing, and the course made me feel well-prepared to walk into a classroom on my first day of school. Though we had class 5 days a week, we still found plenty of time to have fun and explore the beautiful island (as well as some of the surrounding ones!) I also met some of the best people in the world who I know will be friends (and travel companions) for life. I've met many people who did online courses back home to save money, and they all said that they wish they had done a course like this one.

If you're debating whether to take the leap and come to Thailand, my advice is DO IT. You will not regret it for a moment, especially if you choose to go through TEFL Heaven :)

Koh Samui October 2015

I recently completed my tefl heaven course in Samui and to sum it up in one word I would say AMAZING.
The trainers have a huge amount of knowledge and experience which helps to give you the tools you need to become a tefl teacher. Yes, it's intense, AND yes, there is assignments, which at the time, it's not what you want to be doing (ideally you'd like to be at the beach, of course), but they really do help! It also gives you hands on experience which i would say was the most beneficial.
The friends you meet are friends for life, and everyone is there to support one another.
I can not think of a better way that I would of liked to get my tefl qualification, and Thailand is so much fun!

TEFL HEAVEN

TEFL Heaven was a wonderful course to go through to get certified to teach abroad. The course was intensive and thorough and provided us a wealth of tools and knowledge we would need to teach English. Even if you have absolutely no teaching experience, which many of the trainees on my course did not, TEFL Heaven gives you everything you need to feel prepared and confident when you enter your teaching position. The trainers were super knowledgable, engaging, and warm. They made it very fun while also providing us with so many resources that proved to be highly applicable in our teaching positions. Beyond training us to teach, they also trained us on how to live in Thailand, always offering inside tips and tricks which proved to be so helpful as we all became adjusted to the new culture and lifestyle. Another huge bonus of the course were the Thai lessons. It was so great to get a head start on some of the aspects of Thai language and culture before going to our placements. Aside from a very well-designed course and expert trainers, we trained on an island in a paradise location! What's better than that?! After trainings, we would all spend time together socially, having dinner or drinks or going on super fun excursions! You really do form strong bonds with the people on your course, which is so wonderful to have when it's all said and done. Most likely, everyone gets spread out across Thailand after the training, but that just means you have lots of different places to visit on the weekends and holidays! Mike and his team are lovely, honest people and they have continued to help and support TEFL Heaven alum long after the course has ended. It is worth the money, it will change your life, and I would highly recommend this TEFL program above any other!

Koh samui

Such a good experience! If your reading this then you are clearly tempted just don't think about it and just do it. I'm so happy I did this met some really good people who I am still in contact with and the experience is amazing you teach children make a difference and in your free time go and explore.

Is a very sociable course getting everyone working together. The course is made fun making you learn at a fast rate. Tutors were amazing in teaching techniques and providing information that will help your own teaching.

TEFL Krabi

The Krabi programme was fantastic and well organised and the place its self was absolutely fantastic. The course was so much fun and you will make friends that you will keep throughout your time in Thailand.

I stayed in my school for 6 months and I was placed in Anubarn Lopburi. My school day started at 7.45 and finished at 5.30, even though this seems like a long day half of the day was made up for teaching and the other half for preparation and marking. This meant that I never had any work to do outside of the school gates which for a teacher is practically unheard of. I started my day preparing students for various competitions which the rest of the school attend assembly then at 8.00 the school day started. Each teacher is given a form room and through out the semester you will get to know these students very well. My school was a mini english programme and I taught P4-6 and extra curricular lessons to P1-2. The school year much like the UK has special events such as sports day and christmas show which I helped the pupils prepare for, which was such a good experience.

My province Lopburi was 2 and a half hours from Bangkok and is well known for its monkey temple and sunflower fields. It was a fantastic place to live and after a while you really felt a part of the community.

I really enjoyed my time in Thailand both the teaching and the TEFL course and would encourage anyone to take part in this programme.

What would you improve about this program?
This programme was fantastic and so much fun and it is suited for the TEFL inspired classroom. However I was placed in a more academic classroom in which I could have used a session on how to teach in this style of classroom.

Also more background information about the teaching style and what the school expects from you would be a handy bit of information to have before entering the classroom.

TEFL Heaven Koh Chang 2014

I trained with TEFL Heaven in Koh Chang April 2014. I was well prepared by ETA as to what to do, bring and expect. I was lucky enough to be already placed and have my visa before I left New Zealand. Most people were not but that is all part of the experience and everyone got sorted in the end.

Ko Chang is a beautiful place with heaps to see and do. The accommodation was in a great location and was fine as long as you don't mind ants and lizards...if you do mind ants and lizards then don't come to Thailand. The course was hands on and practical with a little bit of theory and prepares you as well as you can be prepared to go into a Thai classroom. Our trainers were amazing and gave us so much encouragement, support and vital resources. They really went above and beyond and from what I have heard most TEFL Heaven trainers seem to be like that.

I was placed with Echo English in a fantastic school that was really organised and really cared about children's learning. To some extent this seemed the exception not the rule but it is all part of the experience. Anyone who gave teaching and adapting to a new culture their best shot and had realistic expectations had an absolute blast and a life changing experience.

As long as you are realistic, flexible and openminded you will have an incredible experience you won't forget in a hurry. TEFL Heaven is a good choice for a training provider because the course is face to face, you meet some lovely people, get eased into living a new culture in a fun and social way, they deal with a lot of the red tape and have a point of contact thought your time in Thailand.

What would you improve about this program?
The accommodation on my TEFL course had a few minor issues.

What a job!

I'm now 5 weeks into my first teaching job, and it's flown by.The 3 week training course was fun and informative, and really gave me confidence that I could be a successful teacher. Not to mention it took place in a paradise location, Krabi, surrounded by loads of lovely like-minded people! The trainers were fantastic too - I'm still friends with everyone now and we meet up every weekend.

In terms of my placement, I was lucky enough to get pretty much exactly what I wanted (teaching primary in Bangkok). That's not to say that everyone is so lucky, but I certainly have no complaints. Since finishing the training course, the experience teaching abroad team are still on hand to answer any queries that I have. One of the guys trained alongside us on Krabi and now works for them in the office, so I know I can always call him or any of the other staff there with any questions - they are very helpful.

Doing an internship has definitely been the right choice for me - not only did I get my qualification and a guaranteed job, but I've also met a great group of friends to enjoy Thailand with!

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing I would suggest is a little bit more time spent on teaching classroom/behaviour management techniques - although this is something that you pick up fairly quickly when you start teaching

A course to be reckoned with

The TEFL Heaven course has provided me with some excellent experiences and knowledge which I have been able to take away and use in my school - Yothinburana EP.
Most importantly, this course enables you to meet a number of like-minded people, all of whom are in the same boat. Meeting these friends is invaluable, and has made my experience in Thailand a whole lot easier and more enjoyable.

The course itself is well organised and provides its trainees with the chance to go from knowing next to nothing about teaching English in Thailand, to being fully prepared for the world of a Farang (foreigner) teacher.
One thing I have experienced, though, is that the TEFL Heaven course was largely based on teaching younger students in Thailand, i.e: Prathom (Primary School). This means that the course is perfect for those trainees who eventually are placed into a Prathom environment, but can be slightly frustrating for those trainees who are placed in a Mathayom (Secondary School, ages 13-18).
Personally, having been placed into a Mathayom English Programme and teaching 16-18 year olds, I have found it very difficult to plan appropriate lessons for the students with the knowledge I had acquired from the TEFL Heaven course.

Having said that, the course itself is, on the whole, very useful to anybody who wishes to teach in Thailand. It offers a post-graduate a very unique TEFL course. Unlike a number of other TEFL courses, TEFL Heaven provides its trainees with a guaranteed job offer, and sets out a clear contract for the trainees too.

I would recommend the course for sure, particularly to post-graduates who, like myself, were not sure exactly what they wanted to do after their time at University.

What would you improve about this program?
This program could be improved by the company placing all of the trainees into their schools before the course has started, or at least within the first week. In doing this, the TEFL Heaven trainers would be able to tailor the training in a way which fully prepares the trainees for the school environment they will be teaching in. For example, teachers who will be teaching advanced level Mathayom students would then be able to learn more in depth information regarding the lesson planning process and other such things, rather than focussing too much on teaching through the use of flashcards or singing songs etc.
