Excellent staff and teacher

The staff is always really attentive and kind regarding you and your process. My teacher Ge was incredibly helpful and amazing at teaching, he made sure the lessons were fun and interactive and is someone you can rely on without any shame. He also pays very close attention to the progress of every student and helps them wherever is needed which makes learning Mandarin easier. In conclusion, my teacher and staff were all very helpful during this process. Which made learning Mandarin not only fun but a very useful skill to have.

Learning Chinese Has Never Been This Fun!

This school has provided an unforgettable learning experience! The warm and welcoming community of teachers, students, and cultural activities creates an environment that feels like a second home. The cozy café, offering free coffee, tea, and other drinks, is a perfect spot to unwind between lessons.

The NihaoCafe platform is another highlight. It simplifies lesson preparation and review, and its in-house drama series are both entertaining and practical for learning real-life Chinese expressions. It’s been an invaluable tool for my progress in mastering the language.

Studying at the Beijing campus, I’ve had the privilege of being taught by Liu Laoshi. Her engaging and energetic teaching style has significantly improved my speaking skills. The support team here is always friendly, approachable, and quick to help with any concerns. I highly recommend this school to anyone passionate about learning Chinese!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice would be to stay open-minded, embrace every new experience, and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone – it's the best way to truly immerse yourself in the journey!

Effective learning in a fun environment

I am six weeks into my first 8-week part time mandarin class and I am amazed by how useful the classes are. The combination of focus on speaking and understanding while also allowing teaching time for writing and reading Chinese characters makes the classes a unique learning experience. The school platform NihaoCafe is excellent -- it reinforces what we learn in class and has great practice exercises. I looked into several other language schools and I am convinced I made the absolute best choice in That's Mandarin! A plus is that the Shanghai school is in a great central location with a super chill rooftop terrace.

Great learning environment

I took a series of private lessons where I arrived in Shanghai. My goal was to learn as fast as possible. Classes at That's Mandarin went beyond my expectations. Professional, efficient but also extremely friendly. I worked with two different teachers, both excellent and extremely complementary in their teaching approach. The school is located in a nice district and they have their own online learning-platform. After each class you have immediate access to all the teacher's notes. Highly recommended!

Great lesson

The lessons have been fun, interactive and beneficial. The teacher has been welcoming and friendly with a deep knowledge of Chinese and how to teach it. Coming into the class I knew a few words but they start at the fundamentals and work their way through methodically. I feel each week I have learned some fundamental parts of the language that can be used directly in everyday ways. I would highly recommend any one that is either curious or thinks it will be beneficial to join. I have made friends and I look forward to each lesson, which is something I did not expect!

Location

That is a good school for any students that are studying Mandarin, the teachers are nice and attentive, they care about each student in their class, moreover, the school is located in a nice neighborhood in Shanghai, there are a lot of restaurants from all over the world, bars and shopping areas. The school is also really easy to access by bike or by walking. That's Mandarin is also proposing some different Chinese activities. I hope that I'll leave the city with wonderful memories and a few contacts for the future

Good material

I really enjoy the experience of the study material. very easy and professional.

I started my first day with another 2 students and their level of Chinese was great. I really enjoyed the experience of talking and learning because it was a real challenge for me as a beginner. Also, the course follows the HSK vocabulary which I consider it is useful in general.

Also, the installations are a great place. I appreciated that you can drink all the tea - coffee you want. In general, I consider the experience very nice.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
just make sure that you make a reservation close the school.
Pros
  • good working material
  • teacher is patient
  • installations are nice
Cons
  • the lesson content is difficult to complete per class
  • it could be a lot of information per day though i do not consider it an inconvenience at all

Student-Centred Classes

I feel that taking lessons here at That's Mandarin has benefited me much better than other Chinese language schools that I've taken courses at the past 5 years since I've been in China. One thing that I really like about That's Mandarin is the digital platform that the school uses. It makes it very convenient to study and learn. The other thing that I really like is the way that the classes are taught. They are made very personal and are made with focusing on the growth of the student, not rushing through to just hit content.

An Unforgettable Journey at That’s Mandarin!

I’ve been studying Chinese at That’s Mandarin in Beijing, and I’m really loving it here! The school offers so many cool cultural activities, like learning to play mahjong and other events where I get to meet awesome people. A friend who studies acting recommended the school to me, and it’s been such a great experience.

I have to say, the classes themselves are excellent too. My teacher has this great balance of humor and organization, making lessons both fun and really effective. I can feel myself making progress each week. I’d taken some Chinese in high school, but learning here in Beijing is a whole different experience. I’m really grateful for the chance to study here and would definitely recommend That’s Mandarin to anyone interested in learning Chinese!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I’ve eaten was probably durian. Known as the "king of fruits" in Southeast Asia, it has a strong odor that can be off-putting for many people. I remember trying it for the first time while visiting a market in Thailand.
