Small Group Class with That's Mandarin

10/10

I am very satisfied with my classes at That's Mandarin. The staff has always been friendly, professional and helpful in every way. The new building is modern and very comfortable to learn in, with a nice common area where free drinks are provided. Last but not least, I'm very happy with my lessons. My teacher is amazing and understands exactly my needs, and I love the online vocabulary system. Thank you That's Mandarin!

Review for That's Mandarin

10/10

I came to That's Mandarin one month ago and I am quite satisfied so far. I had studied Chinese in a University before, but I do not recommend this opportunity. Now, while I am a student in That's Mandarin, I can mention several advantages of the school:

- English-speaking staff: Unfortunately, that is not to be taken for granted. The first time I called my old University's Admission Office, the secretary just hanged up after a few seconds, because I did not speak any Chinese back then. But at That's Mandarin, the whole application process was simple & available in English.

- The staff cares well about the students: My visa-documents arrived very fast & the Consultant even helped me to get a Chinese phone-card. Another University I had applied for did not even pick up the phone & ignored all the E-mails, including the ones written in Chinese. So even a Native Chinese-friend could not help me out with that.

Small classes: In a small class there is much more interaction with the students compared to a normal classroom with 20 people. My teacher is able to focus on the individual mistakes and tries to fix them.

Flexible hours: This aspect might be interesting for foreigners with a regular job, who can not participate in a class in the morning. That's Mandarin is open until 21:00 o'clock, so if you have to work during the daytime, just take your classes when you come back from your job.

If one keeps in mind the good service, the tuition fee is really justified in my opinion. I would also recommend to buy some books to study at home in your free time & to practise the Mandarin-skills in conversations with Chinese friends.

Online Courses from That's Mandarin

10/10

All of the staff I've contacted who work at That's Mandarin, from the admin to the sales to the teachers, have been immensely helpful and easy to talk to. They take away the barriers to getting information and to learning a new language. Don't be afraid to keep asking questions about their services from the sales and the admin! And if you have questions about learning Chinese, the teachers are really eager to help clarify anything, even unconventional questions about Chinese. They have many different options for taking classes, which is perfect for me since I work odd hours and am only available at certain times. From That's Mandarin, I am able to get a tailored class that's convenient for my lifestyle.

INTENSIVE SMALL GROUP WITH THAT'S MANDARIN

10/10

• I have receiced a superb service from all the staff members. They have always been proptly prepared to deal with all my needs and ensured I was receiving good teaching. At That's Mandarin, not only I have improved my Chinese but I also built new friendships, with students as well as teachers. Learning here means being part of a large family, you interact with everyone and you get the chance to know a lot of people from different backgrounds. Teachers are really friendly and professional, they try to accommodate any demand you may have regarding teaching methods, choice of the topics, etc. Their support have really been a great relief for me as I had been travelling a lot during the weekends. In fact, I have always received helpful tips and language support to book my trips, even outside their working hours. Overall, it has been a very pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend the school for those who have high expectations and aim for a remarkable experience in Beijing.

Group classes in That's Mandarin Beijing campus

10/10

I really enjoyed my classes with both Xin Laoshi and Wang Laoshi.
It is clear Xin Laoshi is an expert in the history of Chinese characters and how the characters have developed over time. She was always able to explain the background and historical context behind each character, which not only helped us learn the meaning, but deepened our understanding for Chinese culture. She is also really great at explaining the definition or context of a character without using English.
Wang Laoshi is helpful with teaching conversational Chinese, which is often missed in other language programs. She pushed us to practice speaking as much as possible, which helped us review past grammar structures and vocabulary. Wang Laoshi has a very bubbly personality and keeps students engaged and motivated.

Practical Lessons Here

9/10

I would definitely recommend That's Mandarin to my friends who want to learn Chinese. It's a little bit hard when learning Chinese but hopefully teachers here are very nice and patient. There are lots of choices before I came here, but for now I am really glad I made a right choice. I'm keen to past the beginner stage soon. And I'm going back to my home country, but probably next time I will still choose it.

Great language school

10/10

I would highly recommend That's Mandarin's part time Chinese programme. I have taken 1-to-2 lessons with my girlfriend and we have both found them so useful. We both work in Beijing and the school is so flexible about fitting the classes around our schedules. We have two classes a week with two different teachers who are both excellent. We are working towards our next HSK exam and I am confident that we will be as well prepared as possible thanks to these great classes.

How can this program be improved?

I don't have anything bad to say!

very satisfied with classes I followed

10/10

As an exchange student my university offered me only one Mandarin class a week, which is not enough if you really want to learn Chinese. That’s why I enrolled in the part-time classes at That’s Mandarin, which I could easily combine with my other classes at the university. Every Tuesday and Thursday evening I had two hours of Mandarin class with four other students.

The small group gave me the opportunity to learn much faster and to practice my Mandarin skills way more (at the university we are about 25 in one class). We often had to improvise small conversations, which was really efficient to improve our speaking skills.

Thanks to That’s Mandarin I learned Chinese much quicker than I ever expected. It’s a wonderful language to learn, especially with this amazing school.

Great place to learn Chinese for full time workers

10/10

I really like studying at That's Mandarin.

Having a full time job is very energy consuming and That's Mandarin's way of teaching allows you to adjust the pace accoring to your available energy: at times you can put in more or less energy into your Chinese. There is great emphasys on speaking and listening (which is what you need first), with focus on reading and writing coming later on.

What I like the most about the school is that the teachers are all really friendly and adaptive. They can very easily spot what your level is and identify what are the issues you need to work on, or the new concepts that can be introduced to you. The management is also very helpful in arranging classes, rescheduling, or straight out cancelling when you can't come.

I recommend this school very much.

I really liked That's Mandarin. The timetable they provided me was very convenient and I couldn't come I could easily postpone a class.
I liked the staff as they were all very nice. I would like to thank my teacher Cao Bin, who not only speaks really goos Russian, he also explains everything in English. I always felt comfortable talking to him.
I'ld like to thank my other teachers too, FeiFei and Yang Quizhi.
Thank You That's Mandarin for this new knowledge, these new acquaintances and the delicious coffee.

Making Progress in Learning Chinese with That's Mandarin

10/10

I have found my lessons with That's Mandarin enjoyable and informative. I feel I have learned a lot in the classes. I like the informal style. My teachers are very good.

After each of the classes, I got paper notes and online notes on MandarinCafe, with key grammar, related vocabulary and sentence. I can review after class with these sentence structures, questions words, measure words, etc. both in paper and online, which is very helpful and practical in daily life.

Thanks for That's Mandarin, I have made much progress in Chinese learning, and I will definitely come back to learn Chinese in 2016!

Private class

9/10

yes,, I love it! It is a warm and spacious environment. Delicious kinds of teas and a coffee machine for the student's use at all time. The teachers and staff are good. At the very beginning, I have no any idea of any Chinese, then i start to learn with That's Mandarin, their unique method and study system combination are good for student to obtain a totally new language.

How can this program be improved?

Besides the new words taught in class I would have liked to hear at home the sentences in Chinese as well. This would help me practice the pronunciation better.

I have found my classes to be very useful

8/10

I have found my classes to be very useful, especially in helping me to fill in the gaps in my knowledge which I otherwise wouldn't have found, to improve my speaking fluidity and to gain a better understanding of how to use the grammatical rules of the languages in practice. They were especially good for allowing me to have daily conversations effectively. By the way, the school has a very conductive and comfortable learning environment and the free fresh coffee is amazing, I like it very much!

How can this program be improved?

At the moment, I feel my speaking skills aren't particularly improving, only my vocabulary is widening - while this is not a bad thing, I would like to have a more structured way to improve the depth of my language skills rather than just learning more words.

Part-Time Chinese Course

9/10

The best thing about this course is the ability to choose exactly what I want to do. Also I have been sick but the school has been very accommodating.
Sometimes the printer has no link, I think they need to buy a professional laser printer. Brother is a good brand and the refills are big. I really have nothing to say about other aspects because I feel very satisfied until now.

That's Mandarin rocks!

10/10

My level of Chinese was OK before I discovered That's Mandarin, but i had forgot many words due to a change in circumstances and the lack of opportunity to speak with Chinese people at work. Luckily I discovered That's Mandarin, and instantly my Chinese started to improve again.

The teachers are fantastic and offer an extremely affable experience. They tailor the class around you and can quickly determine your level.

I thought the most enjoyable things about the classes were the story 'telling method' where you get to watch an interesting video and then talk about it afterwards. Initially you find yourself describing it in a very basic manner, not too dissimilar to a child would. But after a few classes you are able to express in much finer detail what is happening. For somebody who appreciates visual learning, I found this very effective.

How can this program be improved?

Perhaps be more strict with me when it comes to Chinese character writing.

Brilliant online program

10/10

I have been living in central China for around 18 months, I've had various Chinese lessons but That's Mandarin has been the most useful one. I think their teaching methodods are fantastic. I'm asked to write a story each week (obviously in Chinese!), I do this about my own experiences that week which in turn makes my lessons about everyday situations. We then discuss this in my lesson and use that language to create new conversations. The fact that I have lessons via Skype has forced my listening ability as well which is brilliant. My teacher, Hu Laoshi, is fantastic, she's really fun and very patient when I'm having a bad day!

I have scored 5 for housing, safety and social points - this is because I only have online lessons and have not visited either of the schools in China. So please don't acknowledge those points.

I will carry on with my Chinese studies even after leaving, and I'll definitely stick with That's Mandarin.

Great school, great methodology!

9/10

I extremely enjoy attending both the face to face private lessons on Saturdays as well as the remote lessons using Skype. The methodology without a fix book or script is very interesting. Comming to the school regulary during about 1 year have help me passing from HSK2 level to HSK4...and now preparing for HSK5.

The previous system using email to send you the last lesson notes and audio in MP3 has been improved with a website that improved the traceability of all the previous lessons contents, that is a great improvement.

Thank you all teacher and admin. stuff for the great, professional and friendly job, keep smiling!

How can this program be improved?

none. As i wrote above "The previous system using email to send you the last lesson notes and audio in MP3 has been improved with a website that improved the traceability of all the previous lessons contents, that is a great improvement." ...before it was difficult for me to trace back the material within my email inbox...now that is not necessary as i find them in the school website.

Great for survival Chinese

9/10

We take Chinese class every weekend for 2 hours at That's Mandarin, Jing'an, Shanghai.
The class is very helpful for our daily Chinese communication needs - in particular we're currently studying a survival chinese module, which helps with everyday life - getting a haircut, buying clothes etc.

We're also practising writing Chinese characters, which is helpful day-to-day for reading sign, menus, and so on. We don't practise much business Chinese, mostly because we're not yet at that level - it would be very useful in the future.

How can this program be improved?

I would like to practise more writing and reading, but this will come in time.
