Once in a lifetime opportunity

This experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The first week at Elephant nature park was unbelievable. You got great vet experience with not only the elephants but with the rescue dog and cats. I felt very safe while working with the elephants. The employees at the park and the loop abroad guides were very helpful and friendly. The second week at the dog clinic was even more in depth vet experience with dogs and cats. When not working with the vets, loop abroad brought you out to see the sights and taste some local food. I felt safe the whole time at the night bazaar, the temples, and all the restaurants. The food was the same while at elephant nature park for the week, which I didn't mind. While in the city the food was different every night, I never had a bad food. The hostel at elephant nature park was a great new experience, and the hotel in the city was clean and had A/C. The would recommend to any one who is thinking about going to vet school, likes biology, loves elephants, and even if you just like adventures and new travels.

Most Amazing Experience of My Life

It was so cool to spend 2 weeks living life in Thai culture, eating their food and living like they do. At the elephant sanctuary, Elephant Nature Park (ENP), we got to do so many amazing things. We got to feed the elephants, help care for them, and work with one of the elephant vets on their rounds for a day. Every morning we ate breakfast on the platform and you could look out and watch the elephants walking around while eating your Thai style breakfast! On top of that being awesome, all the people were so nice and welcoming. All of the Loop staff were really helpful and always doing everything they could to make our stay great. In the city, they took us out to a different restaurant every night to let us get some food other than Thai and many other little things like that just show they really care and want us to have the best time!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
When working in the dog clinic in the city, we got to help with anesthesia and surgery. Being that I just completed my freshman year of undergraduate school, I never did anything like this before, so it was a little nerve-racking going in with no experience. However, I just asked questions when I wasn't sure, and with the help of the vets and peers, I got to help administer drugs, place a catheter, and other steps in surgery!

Amazon Vet Program

This program was a once in a lifetime experience! Not only did we learn a ton about the animals of the rainforest and the conservation work, but also got to participate in the work that the rescue was doing. This isn't the most hands on program due to wanting the animals to not be humanized, but that is the point in order to release the animals. The rescue workers are so nice and willing to help us not only learn but get involved too. Amazoonico does amazing work and getting to participate in the release of the turtles and the necropsies of the monkeys that died unexpectedly was an amazing experience. Getting to stay in the hostel run by the indigenous community was very fun because we were able to learn about another culture and interact with the children and people in order to learn more about their culture.

What would you improve about this program?
I would love for this program to be more hands on and for students to have the schedule at the beginning of program.

Awesome Experience!

This was such a cool experience to be able to get more hands-on experience working with exotic animals! We stayed at the Lory Park Zoo and lived on the grounds majority of the week, except for on the Safari weekend. We got to work with the keepers at the zoo every day going through the different areas of the zoo, prepping food, cleaning, training, and more. My favorite part of the trip was getting to work with the vets doing treatments on the animals, learning about the treatments, and getting to be so hands on with them; we got to work all kinds of birds, primates, reptiles, and more. This experience is something that you would never be able to find in the States, and I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about zoo med and conservation.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I saw was when a zoo vet came for the day to administer vaccines to the big cats, seeing what the process was like and how quick and efficient everything had to be. It really opened my eyes to what working with wildlife and exotic animals of that size is like.

Amazing experience!!!

My loop abroad experience was amazing!!! I did the college veterinary 2 week program in Thailand and learned so much! The entire staff that worked with us were so welcoming and sweet, I miss them already! The tour guides that work with loop abroad honestly made the experience worth while. They taught us so much about the culture. The activities we did were so fun and I learned a lot about vet med. if you are on the fence about going, I recommend going!!! Worry about the money later! The money can be daunting at first but traveling oversees is worth it especially for what you receive on this trip! It’ll be a great thing to add to a resume or vet school application plus they have great resources for you as an alumni once you finish their program!

What would you improve about this program?
More food options on the menu. I liked the food but felt like there were not as many options to choose from after a while of finishing the list.

Great Learning Experience

I loved the program a lot. I learned more about the veterinary field, and how I should prepare myself for vet school applications at the end of my undergraduate studies. Also, the hands on experience both at ENP and the Dog Cat Clinic was incredible and I feel more prepared to work in a practice and continue my veterinary studies! Also, the traveling to new places everyday for activities was a blast as I was both able to learn a lot in Thailand, and also adventure around a lot and truly understand the Thai culture better. For anyone who loves to travel, try new food, loves the veterinary health field, or even just wants to see the world a little better, I highly recommend this program as it changed my life and my veterinary skills that I will use in the future!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
We tried a bunch of Thai fruit that was delicious and amazing. I loved the Nose Fruit and the Rambutan fruit!

Thailand College Veterinary Service

What a great experience this was, especially for my first time out of the United States! I was so nervous for this trip, but was quickly relieved when I realized how supportive, caring, and approachable the staff was. I was able to make new friends, see some amazing sites, learn about a different culture, all while receiving upper division credit that transferred back to my school. Not to mention, we all got to get up-close and personal with elephants! This was the trip of a lifetime and I highly recommend it.
One thing I was also worried about was the food. It turns out it was the best food I have ever had and still think about it to this day. The staff responds to emails quickly leading up to the program date and are so willing to help and teach you about their culture once you are there.

What would you improve about this program?
It would be nice if information on the website was easier to navigate.

unforgettable journey!

this was my first time abroad studying for vet-related course! i really enjoyed the 20 girls who also shared this experience with me! the four dvms were amazing in their own qualities and really helped us throughout our two weeks in australia! i cannot thank them enough as well as tassin, our keeper, for all the meals and support she gave us!! i enjoyed learning about aboriginals and australian culture that was in the park itself! a few of us got up to watch the sunrise before breakfast and morning lecture which is was always a treat and a great morning hike around the park! we got to see many of the australian animals, befriended them, and helped construct enrichments for them as apart of our academics! we also enjoyed our time at terrigal and sydney for free time which was really amazing and we made so many memories together!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
i would say to instantly get a sim card on your way out of customs at the airport!! it was really helpful for me to let my family know i got there safely!

Unforgettable!

This trip was definitely something I'd recommend to everyone interested in pursuing a career in the veterinary field. You get to be fully immersed in Thai culture while learning from vets who have years of experience and wisdom. This wisdom is great especially when dealing with animals like elephants, which you have likely never encountered before, and may not get a chance to get this close again! The hands-on experience with dogs and cats is also valuable, as you may not get the same freedom to operate back home. Alongside the medical aspect, you also get to explore the ethical side of animal care, as you compare treatment methods between your home country and Thailand. You also have the opportunity to meet people your age, and gain inspiration from everyone around you. It was a fun, meaningful learning experience that I'll never regret.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Come prepared with all your questions about vet school (how to get in, people's experience with them, etc).

Thailand College Veterinary Program

An absolute life changing experience. This was my first time really travelling and it was so fun. Not only that, I was super impressed about how conscientious all the staff were about safety!! From this trip I’ve learned so many new things not only about Veterinary Medicine but about education opportunities and job opportunities. All the locals were extremely friendly and it genuinely was the land of smiles. The Elephant Nature Park is very much like camping but the food is delicious and the genuine connections you make with all the animals and other volunteers is mind blowing. The support staff were also very helpful and kind, during my trip I had had a little allergic reaction from a big bite (just swelling), but as soon as I told the support staff they stayed up with me getting me ice and checking to make sure I was okay and I appreciated it so much. This trip has forever changed my life and I’m so grateful.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Most nerve-racking thing was probably flying on an airplane for the first time for 16+ hours. To overcome it I slept most of the flights and when I woke up we were landing.
