Hungary Angloville Program

My friend and I recently completed an Angloville Program in Hungary and all we want to do is come back! Both the facilities and staff at the venue we stayed at were excellent. In addition, we couldn’t have asked for a better group of coordinators, Dani, Astrida and Timi. These guys were so helpful throughout the week as well as super fun! Not only were the coordinators awesome but the other volunteers were also constantly going above and beyond for the participants. The kids themselves were amazing to mentor and interact with, showing a keen interest in our culture and learning English. All in all, being given the opportunity to gain insight into another culture as well as share some of our own was an amazing experience that we would highly recommend to anyone!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice for future travellers on this program is to enjoy every moment there because it will be over before you know it

New Friends

This was a fantastic experience. I met new friends, learned about new cultures, and had a blast!
Any negatives that arise from transportation, lack of resources, or issues at the venue are outweighed by the people you will meet.
Be prepared to speak for several hours, but ample breaks are provided. You should also be prepared to go off script as the materials provided may not be adequate for every situation.
The venue may not be near any stores so come prepared with any special items you may need.
Also know, when it comes time to leave your own review, this program demands you leave a minimum of 750 words before you can submit it, so you may find yourself scrambling for things to say.
Also, don't forget to request your refund for your deposit.

What would you improve about this program?
Angloville could improve on the materials provided to facilitate conversations. For example, many of the suggested idioms are out dated or not broadly used. There is an emphasis on specific business terms that many will never use and there is no leveling for varying language skills.
Remember that volunteers will be sharing a room that may be small by North American standards, so be sure to bring eye mask and ear plugs.

Rewarding 2 weeks

I did one week in Warsaw and one week in wroclaw and had the time of my life. I met many amazing people some of whom will be friends for life now! The coordinators are amazingly supportive and there for any questions or concerns you or any of the other native speakers may have. The polish natives were super fun and the majority of them were very chatty once you found some common interests with them. It was a great way to experience the culture of new places from authentic locals. The free city tour at the beginning of the programme was super eye opening and we had an awesome tour guide for no money! I hope to do angloville again some day, maybe even in a different country next time. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun way to travel or get their tefl.

What was your funniest moment?
Playing the photo scavenger hunt where you take pictures of all sorts of team challenges.

My experience with angloville

I loved spending 2 weeks undertaking angloville camps - I completed one in Warsaw and one from Wroclaw. The hotels were beautiful, and although in some cases the food was slightly questionable (not the fault of the angloville team), everything else seemed too good to be true! It was initially difficult but ultimately very rewarding working with the Young polish participants, and I made some great friends along the way! Thoroughly would recommend if you want to add to your CV, as well as make new friends - it is very rewarding to see the kids come out of their shells from the first couple of days, and then see them become much more confident around the native speakers by the end. This is by no means a free holiday, as there is a lot expected of you, but it is all very intuitive and the support I received from my coordinators was amazing!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The initial speaking sessions with the kids - make sure you have lots of conversation starters! However, it only gets easier after your first one so enjoy!

Amazing three weeks

I spent 3 weeks with Angloville, doing the 3 programmes in Katowice and I had such a wonderful experience.
The venues I stayed at were very nice and had amazing facilities and delicious food.
The native speaker coordinators and the Polish coordinators were super helpful and supportive. I really appreciate their hard work and support.
I had the opportunity to meet different people from around the world and have stayed in touch with a few.
Overall, Angloville was an awesome experience. I had so much fun meeting new people and interacting with the Polish participants.
Angloville also allowed me to travel and explore new cities that I never would have seen if it wasn’t for angloville. I am truly grateful for the opportunity.
I would love to do it again next year!!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
At first I was not really confident during my speaking sessions, by the end of the week I was loving them. It helped me build my confidence and allowed me to interact with a lot of people and hear about their stories.

Angloville

Angloville is a very good way to know a country and it's people in much greater depth. You have the opportunity to learn about the culture, make new and lasting friendships with both participants and volunteers, go to locations most tourists don't know about, learn more about yourself, while having an enjoyable week. The program starts with a free city and lunch.

The daily in depth conversations with participants allow the opportunity for meaningful conversations and interesting and important topics most tourists may never experience.

For those who seek to be TEFL (teach English as a foreign language) Angloville provides an economical and great way to obtain your certificate relatively quickly.

We have done several programs and look forward to doing more in the future.

What would you improve about this program?
We have experienced some great coordinators and some not so great. The not so great had done several programs consecutively. Their lack of energy impacted the group.

3 Weeks well spent

I spent 3 weeks with Angloville, doing programmes out of Warsaw and I could not have had a more incredible experience.
The venues were incredibly picturesque and well maintained. I did have slight issues adjusting to the food but all in all, it wasn't a huge concern. If I were to do anything differently, I'd make sure to pack more snacks.
Both the Polish coordinating team and the Native Speaker coordinating team were incredible at each of the three venues, they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and to help us and I really appreciated that.
My favourite part of the entire experience was most definitely getting the opportunity to meet and interact with so many different people from diverse backgrounds. I definitely learnt a lot, both from the other native speakers as well as the Polish participants. I'm definitely pleasantly surprised by how a lot of us have still kept in touch even after the programmes ended.
All in all, Angloville was an incredible experience. I had an incredible time there and am already into the possibility of going back next summer.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The strawberry pasta we had at Hotel Klekotki during my second week in Poland was a very interesting experience. I can't promise that you'll like it, but I can most definitely say that it'll be nothing like anything you've had before.

Rewarding Experience

The actual week-long programmes were fantastic. I have made friends for life and had experiences that I would not have had elsewhere. Though tiring, seeing the development of everyone around you by the end of the week makes it all worth it. The dynamic of the Junior camps in particular was so much fun to be part of. Everyone becomes so close so quickly and you really see the changes you are making to the kids’ confidence and speaking skills. You certainly have to be enthusiastic and sociable to fit the role as native mentor. Such a rewarding and interesting way to explore new parts of Europe and their cultures. Free food, free board in some lovely locations and the opportunity to earn the TEFL certificate! My only reservation surrounding working with Angloville again is the organisation behind the scenes. I have passed on this feedback, however, and hope it can be amended. Thanks for the great experience this year!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Doing back-to-back programmes is extremely rewarding and the cheapest way to travel. However, it is very tiring. If you can afford to travel in between programmes, then take that opportunity. If I were to do Angloville again, I would ensure I had enough time to rest in between each programme.

Malta

My experience in Malta was amazing, but also sounds very different to the other Angloville programmes available. We had trips most days and less structured teaching/conversations than the example schedule on the website suggests. This had both pros and cons because we were able to explore Malta but meant less time interacting with the kids and so less language immersion for them.

The children themselves were wonderful and almost all of them eager to participate. I was able to build a really strong relationship with my mentees and see an improvement in their English over the week.

I would hope that any future programmes I attended were more structured and based around immersion for the children as I feel otherwise they're not benefiting as much as they could.

All in all it was a wonderful experience I definitely hope to repeat and would encourage others to do.

What would you improve about this program?
Better food options for people with dietary requirements.

More team building amongst the actual participants so there's not a divide and it's easier in group activities and 2-on-1 conversations.

Angloville Junior Resort Niegocin 7/7-13/7

Resort Niegocin was a lovely location but the rooms were not very clean and the food was very very variable, do not provide an option for vegetarians on your programme if you cannot guarantee the venue can accommodate this, both mentors and mentees went without proper meals on some days. But the overall structure of the programme was good and I enjoyed my experience apart from the venues failures. The group of mentors on my programme were amazing and I am sill in contact with them after we finished the week, group activities were really fun and everyone enjoyed, coordinators did their job but could have been more approachable and more supportive to the mentors as it’s a new experience for many of them too. Angloville is an amazing company and I can only fault the venue for their organisation not angloville itself

What would you improve about this program?
The venue! Needs to be cleaner and have proper food options for what you as a company have offered
