Why Angloville?

Why Angloville? I have attended a few other immersion projects as a volunteer. Angloville is by far THE BEST! In the past three years, I have joined Angloville 30 times! For two reasons. The first reason is kind of selfish. I ALWAYS have fun. The second and more important reason is, IT WORKS! It's effective. You will see improvement in every student throughout the six days. Not only do the students improve their English skills, both in speaking and listening, you will notice a big improvement in your own ability to communicate with non native speakers. Great, comfortable venues, excellent food and coordinated by real pros! You will make new friends, both native speakers and students. Once you start receiving emails and FACEBOOK messages from your students thanking you and telling you what a great experience it was for them, then you will really understand what a wonderful thing you have done.

Awesome Experience

Angloville is a great way to travel. You don't have to pay for anything to volunteer: you just need to get there. Once, you are there, Angloville takes care of your accomodation and food. All you need to do is be ready to talk a lot to people to help them improve their English. I had so many great conversations with people and learned so much from them. I really had such a great experience that I'll never forget. I am considering going back for another week this winter in another location.

What would you improve about this program?
Maybe one thing that could be changed is the way we come up with conversations with the students. Such as a board-game one-on-one that requires a lot of speaking about a bunch of different topics.

Loved volunteering with Angloville!

I participated in two of these programs and enjoyed both immensely. I would not say it is easy but it is very rewarding and memorable. It is rewarding and inspiring to help the participants with their language skills and confidence with the English language. It is memorable to form friendships with people you would probably otherwise never meet and get to really know what a country and it's people are like.

What would you improve about this program?
More group activities. It sounds silly but even things like going to the grocery store or going out to dinner together and having participants explain things to native speakers can be very fun and educational

My Wonderful time at Angloville

Angloville saved me from a strange situation.

I had moved my whole life to Poland in June of 2015. But when I arrived, but job and living situation turned out to be very different from what I had envisioned. Things change and people do as well, So its ok.

But I needed to find a new home and I needed time to do so. I was going to need at least a week to reset and figure out my plan. But I didn't know many people in the new country I now called home.

In comes Angloville to save my day. I received a message on CouchSurfing (which Ive been told is rare so dont expect it) asking if I would like to stay in a hotel with 3 meals a day for 1 week free. If ever I've had a Godsend, it was this.
Little did I know that I was in for one of the great experiences in my young life! I made some wonderful friends with both the Native Speakers, Polish Participants and the wonderful Coordinators, many of whom I still keep in touch with!

For anyone traveling Europe this is a must! Not just for a budget traveler but for everyone!

You also get the chance to meet and mentor the up and coming thinkers, musicians, future doctors, lawyers and politicians of the new Poland. These kids are amazing and very smart!

I also had the chance to do Yoga daily each morning with a small group which got me back into daily yoga.

And for anyone who may lament at the thought of being alcohol free (the Junior program is dry, the adult one is not) It was a great chance to detox and take a break from the usual nonstop action in Europe.

If you are on the fence about this. Stop pondering and sign up! Its more than worth your time. It is also a chance to meet the entire English speaking world in one place. Dont miss this!!

What would you improve about this program?
No more vocabulary sessions, the kids wanted more speaking sessions, the natives wanted just a little more freetime.
Also having cooking classes, music lessons etc in English would be a great way for the kids to use their language skills in a practical way. I understand that there will not always be qualified Native Speakers, but when the opportunity arises, I think it should be taken advantage of.

Fantastic opportunity to experience the country and its people

Angloville is an amazing opportunity for native speakers and English Teachers to experience the country, its people and make lifelong friendships.
A day before the program Angloville offers an amazing tour of Warsaw, not mandatory but definitely recommendable as you will get a chance to meet everyone and learn more about this great city.

You'll spend six days at a secluded, picturesque venue in Poland, dining and socialising with everyone, creating an idea of what it's like to live in an English speaking country for Polish participants and yes, they will love it as much you will love the process of giving them this unique opportunity.
Days start with breakfasts where you will be asked to make sure the number of native speakers and Polish participants at the table is about the same. This applies for lunch and dinner as well. At first, before you get to know everyone, this might be a bit out of your comfort zone but trust me, as days go by and you establish bonds with everyone around you, this will come with ease.
Each day you will have both one-on-one sessions with different people and one hour with your mentee where you help them prepare a short presentation of their choice. This can be anything from their life, work or hobbies, the most important thing is that the subject is something they feel comfortable talking about.
Be ready for fun activities like volleyball, paddle boating and cycling in your free time or during lunch breaks or, if you wish, during one-on-one sessions as well. I had the most amazing time walking around the lake and exploring the venue with my mentee during our sessions.

Scavenger hunts, charades, group activities, barbecues, even horseback riding are just some of the many things waiting for you at the venue. I can not imagine a better holiday and a more relaxing way to teach English.
Come armed with positive energy, great attitude and an open mind to experience everything this program has to offer and I guarantee this will turn out to be one of the best things you've ever done.
Don't be surprised by a few friendly pranks from your fellow participants as you will completely submerge into the summer camp experience, it's all in good fun!
I guarantee great food, fantastic energy and probably a group of the most amazing people you will ever meet.

Enjoy Angloville

What would you improve about this program?
I would include even more group activities as participants really seemed to enjoy it.

Inspiratonal!

As a retired person, the fact that I can still find an opportunity of little cost and interact and enjoy the experience of conversing with not only foreign speakers, but English speaking people from around the world, is a fantastic adventure.
I found the experience inspirational and Im still learning. Learning about another culture, another language and meeting people who may become friends in the future.

What would you improve about this program?
More leisure time with the participants.

Angloville June 2015 Budapest

The June 2015 program in Hungary was a rewarding experience for me and for the Hungarians, based on their comments.
This was going to be my last English immersion participation, but I left Hungary very positive and excited to do it again.
The Hungarian people are genuine, warm, and eager to learn. The group was very eclectic representing all ages and backgrounds. It was a wonderful introduction to the Hungarian culture. The food and wine is delicious.

Probably the best thing I've ever done

You take a bus to the hotel and then meet the Polish participants. It was awkward for about 5 minutes before you get to know them. It's a week of talking, laughing and making friends. You have breakfast at 9am and social time finishes at 8.30pm. It's all day but you can go for walks, hikes etc in the 1:1 which you have. You change participants every hour. You share a room with another native English and it's an amazing way to make friends. Our group was very social and we stayed up late nearly every evening. The participants are intelligent, funny and great to be around. I wouldn't recommend for unsociable people, you need to have a personality and things to talk about. There's no written or actual work, there are even lists of things to talk about if you can't think of anything to say. It's a very full on week and if you're interested in learning about Poland, you'll be blown away!! For me it was the best week of my life, I had never volunteered before like this and I will be doing it again next year.

What would you improve about this program?
More hands on activities in the local area perhaps to use language more functionally- but in the winter you can ski on the hotel grounds so maybe it depends when you go!

Great fun but not a 5 star resort holiday!

I participated in the Angloville program held at Aracy Kocsag Hotel in Fule, Hungary from 10th -15th May 2015.

As numerous websites will tell you, the Angloville program provides native English speakers with an opportunity to meet people from Eastern Europe (Hungary in this case), as well as other native speakers. In return for providing our language and conversation skills, we (the native speakers) are provided with “free accommodation and food for six action-packed days.”

Angloville advertises this venue as offering “elegance and comfort away from the noise of the world in an authentic rural environment… surrounded by picturesque and calm countryside stretching for miles.” And it truly is a beautiful location.

The day before the start of the program some of the members of our native speakers' group met each other for the first time in Budapest, and were taken on a four-hour guided tour of the city, followed by a restaurant lunch.

The following day, a bus arrived to take us to the venue, which is located approximately 90 kms from Budapest, near Lake Balaton.
Upon our arrival at the hotel, we were introduced to the 9 Hungarian participants, the 2 program coordinators and to the remaining native speakers (bringing the number of natives speakers to 8). There are usually an equal number of native speakers and participants, however two participants had elected to do a ‘tandem’ program making the ration slightly uneven.

The program did indeed provide an invaluable way to learn more about a country with which I wasn’t familiar, and to go beyond the usual tourists’ impressions of Hungary. During my week there, I met some amazing people and forged some life-long friendships.

Although the program was fairly intense (5 hours of conversation sessions each day, not including social activities and conversation over meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner) the time flew.

The accommodation at our venue was fairly basic – we were provided with very small, shared bedrooms and one bathroom to share between 4 people (not en-suite as advertised). Meals were another area which was somewhat disappointing due to the fact that there were so few fresh fruit and vegetables available. Nevertheless for anyone used to backpacking and sleeping in hostels, these things would not cause any real hardships.

I would also like to add one final word of warning about the idea that the program would provide us with time to go hiking, walking and swimming: “A typical 6 day programme is spent in a stimulating environment with Hungarian people in a series of one-on-one discussions, group activities, negotiations, hiking, walking, swimming, meals (with both Hungarian and English speakers), entertainment, and social time.” Unfortunately, our days were so heavily packed that this left very little time for any personal time to enjoy the beautiful countryside.

I would greatly urge anyone thinking of joining this program expecting a holiday, to think again. As an ESL teacher, I have never worked so hard in any teaching job in my life – upwards of 6-7 hours a day! Despite the challenges, I truly did enjoy the week. I haven’t laughed so much nor had so much fun for a long time. The Hungarians were the loveliest group of people you could ever hope to meet and I am very grateful to this program for having provided me with this opportunity.

Overall, if I were asked if I would recommend the program, the answer would have to be “absolutely, but…” It does provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with people from different cultures and to experience a different aspect of life in another country. Nevertheless, it would be good to be fully aware before signing up, that this is not an all- expenses-paid holiday in the country, as one may be led to believe. The work is intense, the accommodation and food are basic, and there really isn’t enough personal time to take advantage of the facilities which are advertised on the website. For these reasons alone, I would hesitate to recommend the program to anyone.

My Angloville experience

Overall a great programme, a lot of conversations, great people from all over the country, many stories, many great moments shared. Would definitely do it again!
Each day we had a chance to participate in a number of activities. I have learnt so much about Poland. The people here made it so special, I am definitely going to stay in touch with many of them.
The venue was really nice. Very charming location in the mountains. The standard of the hotel was very good.
