GoChinaAbroad Learn Chinese with Homestay program ( Volunteer )

My volunteer program with GoAbroadChina in Beijing lasted a month, during this Christmas season, Beijing is full of wonder and beauty. Even though you will have to walk in the freezing cold (in fact the temperature dropped to -13 degrees, it was the coldest day in China ever.) Seeing the positive side of our shaking hands (when having to get pictures of the magnificent architecture of the traditional temples for example is that when climbing the Great Wall I could not have imagined myself going up to the top during summer!

I chose to work in a school for my volunteer program as I am comfortable and unwind around children (I have six younger sisters and brothers). I thought that it would definitely boost my Mandarin, as there certainly will not be the option to communicate in any other language with children from three to seven years old! Teaching them was a delight. They were attentive and eager to learn. Even the younger ones who were at first afraid of me would sit on my lap while watching a movie by the end!

Yes, indeed be prepared for them to point at you, scream, and laugh I should have recorded a video of this little boy not older than 3 who every time I spoke would burst out laughing like I was the funniest attraction in the world, I laughed back as you can’t get mad or offended at children. However, what I found more difficult was how adults would turn back to stare at me in the subway or even on the roads I just felt like saying ‘what is your problem??’ to turn around or even glare at them but you should understand that foreigners (and particularly me as I have blond hair and blue eyes) are something new to them and we are seen as objects of fascination not as people. This would be the advice I would give: smile or ignore.

I would definitely recommend ‘GoAbroadChina’ without hesitation whatever your age (I am sixteen) they give you just the correct balance between freedom and their fun organized events. You can always get in touch with any of them if you require help which is very reassuring, they are fantastic people that if you get to know them around a good Chinese dinner (little advice for vegetarians china is not the best place, the menus are in Chinese and they are no ticks or anything of the sort to tell you the vegetarian options which are in most restaurants not even available as chinese love eating pigs and the meat there is particularly cheap however just tell the ‘fu wu yuan’ the waitress ‘wo chi su’ which means that you are a vegetarian and they will help you to choose) you will learn so much about culture, gain experience, listen to their stories and from the ones the other students taking part in the program will share with with you on their country (Morocco, Tunisia are two places which never really tempted me to go visit before however I am planning to go to Casablanca and in the north of Morocco now that they I have been invited there and heard so much about it which made me so curious to go see for myself.) Making friends is one of the other main highlights of this company the range of people just never ends, so different but in a way so similar it is difficult to explain so just go and have one of the best trips of your life and get unforgettable memories. GoAbroadChina is my family to treasure.

GoAbroadChina Learn Chinese with Homestay program

My stay in Beijing has been really great! GoAbroadChina stuff has been a great help for me and the apartment I was staying in was wonderful. My host mother Grace has been very very nice and patient with me, as well as the GoAbroadChina coordinator who has provided me with constant guidance and feedback!

I have to admit it is a great relief to know that I can call them anytime! I was very very pleased by the welcome, and I am very thankful to have had the GoAbroadChina coordinator around. I highly recommended them to someone out there who had a plan to be in China. I love GoAbroadChina.

GoabroadChina is a really good program

Hello, my name is Sofia. I recommend GoabroadChina because it was a really good program they helped me with a lot of things. For example, when I arrived at the airport they picked me up, helped me with the SIM card, and took me to my hotel. They talked to the people from the hotel so they helped me with that then they also offered to walk me to the school so I could see the school. The Chinese classes were really good and the job they got me was also very fun it was all I wanted, so I really recommend working in some company that GoabroadChina offers.

I strongly recommend GoabroadChina to you

I am Tamara from Egypt, and I just graduated from college. I'm here with GoAbroadChina internship program and Chinese language classes. It's been really great until now. It was very, very welcoming, especially when it's a new environment and I feel out of place. GoAbroadChina working staff are doing a lot to make me feel comfortable and at home, and they're really really great at that. I wish I had known a little more information before coming into China, since I had problems with email, but they've briefed me here, and they're waiting for me with a package at the airport, which helps a lot.

I would definitely recommend GoAbroadChina to all my classmates and other people who are looking for an adventure and really want to immerse themselves in a new environment.

I'd like to express my thanks to GoabroadChina and the working staff

I've been here for one month now that sadly today's my last day that I study at GoAbroadChina language immersion program at Fudan University.

Chinese language is a fun language to learn and I would recommend anyone to try.

I'd like to express my thanks to GoabroadChina and the working staff Jane, she's been extremely caring. Further my advice for anyone coming to China is to totally embrace this unique GoAbroadChina language immersion program at Fudan University.

The Chinese course has come very well. Actually once you put yourself in that position and it would went well.

The GoAbroadChina language immersion program at Fudan University is very caring and accommodating and if anyone has any concerns, the program faculty will sort it.

I visited JiangSu province except Shanghai. I would advise people to visit different provinces as you will see all of the different Chinese cultures because there isn't just a single Chinese culture.

GoAbroadChina language program at Chinese university with homestay in 2024

Hello, my name is Hazel. I'm currently living in Beijing, with a host family I found through GoAbroadChina. I came to China for a 12-week practical Chinese program at Beijing Language and Culture University, and I wanted to live outside of the campus and in an environment where I could practice my Chinese outside of the classroom. GoAbroadChina matched me with the nicest family ever they've been so sweet and accommodating they have arranged, fun activities for me such as bracelet making, and metal working. I've also gone on some family trips to Inner Mongolia and we've also picked chestnuts during the autumn. I'm sad that I only have one month left with them, but I will always have these memories and I would highly recommend staying with the host family in China, it's been a great experience for me thank you!

Thank you so much to GAC for helping me to achieve my dream

Hi everyone, I am from the United States of America. I would just like to share a little bit of my experience working with GoabroadChina. I am actually a Chinese major and I've been studying Chinese for about 5 years, but I've never had the opportunity to come to China. I found GoAbroadchina very accommodating and BLCU was one of the universities that they had a relationship with that they could help me with applying for the university.

I have to say that GoAbroadChina has been extremely helpful in every circumstance that I came across when I applied for the program. Every time I had questions about my visa process, about my accommodations, about the process of applying for the university that I wanted to be at, or dates and so on. GoAbroadChina was very very helpful and timely in responding to my questions.

I really appreciate the service that they have offered and they also include services such as picking you up from the airport and hosting some activities where GoAbroadChina workers will come and host a few of the students or interns and do friend activities and so on. My accommodations are beautiful. They are spacious and clean. I've very much enjoyed living here being a part of the Chinese culture and finally being immersed.

I'm very grateful for GoAbroadChina and all of the service that they provided for me in being able to make my dream a reality to study abroad at BLCU. If you're coming to improve your language or understand the business side of the Asian world, then GoabroadChina is a wonderful company to pair up with, to be able to find programs times, and options that would suit you. so thank you so much to GoAbroadChina for helping me to achieve my dream.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I like Chinese hotpot, haha
Pros
  • GoAbroadChina was very very helpful and timely in responding to my questions.
  • GoAbroadChina weekend activities were very wonderful
  • My accommodations were beautiful.
