My experience in Chinese language university

This program was one of the best decisions I’ve made! Studying Mandarin at a top Chinese university gave me access to high-quality language instruction, and the homestay experience truly accelerated my learning. Living with a local family helped me practice Chinese every day and understand the culture in a personal and authentic way.

Go Abroad China’s support was excellent, from application to arrival. The mix of formal education and immersive living made this program both effective and unforgettable. I not only improved my language skills but also gained lifelong memories and friendships.

Highly recommended for anyone serious about learning Chinese!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
During my Chinese language program with Go Abroad China, my host family once served me century eggs (also known as preserved eggs). At first, I was a bit shocked by the dark color and jelly-like texture—but to my surprise, they were actually delicious, especially when paired with congee! It turned into a fun cultural moment, with my host family laughing at my hesitant reaction and then cheering me on when I gave it a try. Definitely one of the most unique and unforgettable parts of my experience in China.
Pros
  • Top University Education: Learn from experienced teachers at one of China’s best universities, ensuring high-quality Mandarin instruction.
  • Cultural Immersion: Living with a host family helps you practice the language daily and gain deep insight into Chinese culture and lifestyle.
  • Full Support: Go Abroad China provides visa assistance, airport pickup, and 24/7 local support.
Cons
  • Culture Shock: Adjusting to new customs, food, and routines with a host family can be challenging at first.
  • Language Barrier: Communication may be tough initially if you don’t speak any Chinese, especially in more traditional families.
  • Less Privacy: Homestay arrangements might offer less personal space compared to private housing.

Let's Learn Chinese

If you want to learn Chinese, this program is for YOU—no matter where you're from.

I always dreamed of learning Chinese in China, and this program made it amazing. The teachers spoke clearly and made lessons easy to follow. Every day, we practiced listening, speaking, reading, and writing. After class, friendly tutors helped us with our homework.

There were also fun group activities like karaoke nights and museum trips. I made friends from all over the world, and the weekly language exchange with locals really boosted my speaking skills. In just a few weeks, my Chinese got so much better. The campus was clean, safe, and a great place to study. If you love languages or just want a new adventure, I can recommend this program. Every day, I practiced Chinese with them, even when eating or watching TV. The university classes were clear, and the teachers really cared. I liked how the lessons matched daily life topics. We also had fun cultural trips like visiting temples and learning to cook dumplings. My favorite part was language exchange with local students. It helped me make friends and talk better. I felt safe and supported the whole time. Now I can speak Chinese much more confidently.

Learn Chinese with Homestay at a Top University in China

Staying with a Chinese family while studying at a top university was an experience that reshaped my understanding of both language and culture. Every shared meal, casual chat, and simple daily habit turned into an opportunity to learn. Instead of memorizing phrases from a textbook, I absorbed Mandarin naturally—through laughter at the dinner table, morning greetings, and even trips to the local market. The cultural immersion wasn’t just educational; it felt like finding a second home. My host family embraced me as one of their own, and the friendships I formed will last a lifetime. If you want to master Chinese in a way that feels effortless and deeply personal, this program is the way to go

What was your funniest moment?
One of the funniest moments was when I tried to order food at a small restaurant using my beginner Mandarin. I confidently asked for “jī ròu” (chicken), but the waiter looked confused. After repeating myself a few times, he smiled and brought out a giant plate of pig’s feet! Turns out, I had mixed up my tones! My friends couldn’t stop laughing, and I ended up trying a new dish I never would have ordered on purpose.
Pros
  • Learning Mandarin in a university is great
  • You get real-life practice every day
  • It makes learning feel effortless
