Wonderful program and even better people

Participating in the Yenepoya Dental College exchange program last summer was an exceptionally rewarding experience and one that I would recommend without reservation. The program provided a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful academic exchange, particularly through discussions comparing the similarities and differences between the dental education systems in India and the United States. Learning alongside and from renowned, highly knowledgeable faculty was both inspiring and intellectually stimulating. I was especially impressed by the advanced clinical facilities and cutting-edge technology at Yenepoya, which demonstrated the institution’s strong commitment to excellence in education and patient care. Equally impactful was the opportunity to work in local and rural communities, where we gained firsthand exposure to the delivery of dental care in diverse and often underserved settings.

A defining strength of the program was its emphasis on public health. The education we received on India’s public health system, combined with direct observation of Yenepoya’s extensive public health initiatives, profoundly influenced how I now think about population-based care and access to services. These experiences have directly shaped the way I approach public health and community outreach in the United States. Above all, what truly set this exchange apart was the extraordinary hospitality we encountered. Every faculty member, staff member, and student welcomed us with genuine warmth, generosity, and enthusiasm, making us feel valued from the moment we arrived. I left the program with a deeper understanding of global health, a broadened professional perspective, and, most importantly, lifelong connections that I will continue to cherish.

Amazing Immersion and Dental Experience at Yenepoya

I traveled to Mangaluru, India to visit Yenepoya Dental College this past summer, and it was one of the most meaningful experiences of my dental education. The students and faculty welcomed us immediately and made us feel at home. We spent time in both the dental school and local community settings, and seeing how care is delivered with such resourcefulness and compassion was eye-opening.

My favorite part of the trip was driving out to the rural communities and seeing how well connected the school is to the surrounding areas. Talking with families, schoolchildren, and health workers gave me a new understanding of how culture and access shape oral health. I learned so much more than I expected.

Outside of the clinics, we explored the area, tried incredible food, and experienced India in a very real way. I left with new friends, new perspectives, and a deeper appreciation for global health. I’m genuinely grateful for this opportunity, and I’d recommend it to any health-science student looking for a meaningful, immersive experience.
