Go Study Abroad at UoA

Really enjoying my time here. Auckland Uni is great and all information and help you need is just around the corner; just ask. The International Office is packed with nice people, standing by just to help you; either by e-mail or in person. The whole Uni has a pretty flat structure, so contact with lectures is easy (and not scary). Just catch them after a lecture and ask. The city campus is nice with lots of places to eat or take a coffee.

Auckland is a great city, and the Uni is awesome, but the real experience is all the things you can (and should) do outside of Auckland. Join a club and experience New Zealand. There are so many things to see outside Auckland; and you don't have to go far. A lot of the clubs travel during the weekends and/or the midterm break. By joining a club you'll also be able to meet more people, which make the stay even better.

Study Abroad at UoA

I'm doing a year abroad studying at the University of Auckland. It has been some ups and downs, but mostly ups! I've made tons of new friends - the university accommodation is providing lots of activities (from watching Game of Thrones together to free ice cream). The courses I'm taking at uni are very interesting, and it's so fascinating to see how they do things differently from my home university. I love how they record every lecture and the coursebooks are much cheaper than textbooks. Auckland is a great location for exploring New Zealand, with Hobbiton, Rotorua and other points of interest not far away. The city itself is also fantastic - I'm not done exploring it yet! New Zealand is a great country to go to for a study abroad experience!

What would you improve about this program?
I can't really think of anything important, but just a small thing: The buddy service would be much more helpful if the buddies were available the week we arrive here in NZ, because by the time uni starts, all the initial things we need help for is already done (e.g. figuring out where the closest shops are, where to withdraw money etc).

Life in UoA

I am an exchange student and this is my first semester here. At first I was so scared that everything was strange to me, and I feel lonely as well because of the language barrier. However currently I am really fitting in this place because of the help I received from flatmates, professors, etc. People here are really nice and those who study abroad for the first time just like me don't have to worry about the adaptation problem. It will be fine with some time.

What would you improve about this program?
I think the program is really good but the problem is that not many people in my country know this program. So maybe the school should work harder on the oversea publicity part.

A wonderful experience

It is an amazing experience to study at the U of Auckland. Here at Auckland you can meet people from all around the world. Both local and international students are generally very friendly to you regardless of your race/ ethnicity. I feel like people enjoy chatting with and making friends with people from various cultural backgrounds. As a multi-cultural city, you can also find food from different countries and regions easily in the city! It will be a great time to spend a semester here.

What would you improve about this program?
It will be even better if it organizes more outings or group gatherings for international students.

The University of Auckland

The University of Auckland is a great place for students to study abroad! It is located right in the heart of Auckland, which made my daily routine extremely convenient! The academic balance was just right - there are times you really need to study hard and there are times you could plan New Zealand road trips to explore the country during the weekends. I would highly recommend students to live in one of the university accommodations named as 55 Symonds - it's incredible! During the weekends and mid-semester break, I explored the country and had many unique experiences. I visited Hobbiton's filming site, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Fox Glacier, and many more! Every trip I had were all once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Studying in New Zealand and choosing The University of Auckland was definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life!

Year Abroad

Amazing university located in a beautiful country. Academics for my subject are not a rigorous as my home uni (Edinburgh) but the courses are compelling and the teachers I have all had are captivating, extremely helpful and attentive. The best part of the experience is the opportunity to travel across NZ, I am only a few months in but I have explored an amazing amount of the North Island on weekends away and spent my mid semester break in Fiji, a completely once in a life experience. I would 100% recommend studying abroad at here and would additionally recommend Carlaw Park accommodation.

Exchange, autumn 2017

I have been studying as an exchange student at The University of Auckland for two months now and it has been a great experience! The lectures are interesting, the city campus is modern and has a lot of facilities like gym, computer spaces and a lot of food. I live at Carlaw Park Student Village which is a very good housing close to the university. Both Carlaw Park Student Village and the university arranged orientation which was really fun and a good way to find friends here. There are a lot of clubs to join which is a good way to go on excursions and see other parts of New Zealand. The workload from studying is larger than at my home university.

University of Auckland - Studying Abroad

Studying abroad at the University of Auckland has been such a rewarding experience. The academics are challenging, but the professors are very supportive and really want you to learn and succeed. While you will spend a lot of time studying, there is also plenty of time to explore all that New Zealand has to offer. You can always find other students interested in hanging out or going on a trip, but it is also safe enough to access anything you'd like on your own. I'm so glad I decided to study in New Zealand!

What would you improve about this program?
The professors are responsive to email, but nobody else at the university is. Good luck getting a response from any faculty member or any office, especially if it is important! As a study abroad student who is really new to the way things are done here in New Zealand, it is even more frustrating to go weeks and weeks with no answers. Only thing so far that needs (MAJOR) improvement.

The weather can be hugely variable in one day. The summer months are hot and sunny, while in winter the temperature does drop quite a bit but it was never below 0 when I was there. My advice to you is always carry an umbrella just in case!
