About Program

Get transported to Stellenbosch, the ideal (and oldest) college town in South Africa, which is a true melting pot of cultures and languages. You’ll stroll the oak-lined streets, meet other students at hip bars and cafés, and hike up the mountains beyond the town for a gorgeous, panoramic view. On Semester in South Africa, you’ll study at Stellenbosch University, a premier university in the nation. Stellenbosch is located in the heart of the Cape Winelands, one of the best wine regions thanks to the warm Mediterranean climate and rich soil. Participate in dozens of clubs, take on a service learning project, or try sailing or rugby. Semester in South Africa is the perfect opportunity to embark on unique adventures.

South Africa Abroad

Studying abroad in South Africa was the best decision for me when going abroad. Being in historic Stellenbosch really offered a unique opportunity. The student life was great from good fun on the weekend to well developed and active clubs looking to help international students get involved. CIS’s program helped me have amazing relationships with locals and other internationals. They also did a stellar job making sure that I was safe. The on site director Athena is an amazing resource and does a great job showing you things that no one else knows about. Overall I had no complaints and countless stories of my once in a lifetime experience.

Internship with the Parliamentary Monitoring Group

Cape Town's nature has so much to offer from beaches to mountains. There is a rich history and an insane party scene to explore. The culture is adverse and certainly an eye opening experience.

Difficulties included discrepancies between what my school required for my internship and what the company expected from me as well as issues with the program that provided housing in responding to security concerns.
