About Program
This program is designed to help heritage speakers discover and develop their inherent linguistic abilities. Many heritage speakers of Spanish possess good oral skills in the informal registers, and these will be further developed with courses in grammar, written and formal oral expression in Spanish. All courses are taught in Spanish and the classroom is shared by other heritage speakers. Aside from language development, topics will also include literature, art and business, and fieldtrips will supplement the classroom instruction to learn more about the geography, history and culture of Asturias, the region of Oviedo.
This four-week summer program will allow students to earn 8 quarter credits or five semester credits. Students can choose to live with a host family or in the Ovida residence hall in Oviedo, which will further assist in the speed of cultural immersion.
