I took the course in the spring of 2015 and absolutely loved it. One, the instructors are amazing and supportive and two, Prague is gorgeous. I need to mention that the course can be a bit challenging, especially if you do not have any experience with teaching or if you have never really studied English grammar. But I also should say that there is nothing in the course that you won't be able to learn or do by the end of it. There are refresher grammar lessons for those of us who forgot what an adjective was and you have a ton of opportunities to practice teaching and improve your skills. Through it all, the instructors as well as your fellow classmates will be supporting and helping you. And at the end, you have a TEFL certificate which you can use to teach around the world!

My advice is simply to give it a try if you're considering it. You can use the TEFL certificate to teach for a year or you can make it a career. The great thing is that you will always have the ability to get jobs teaching English in the future. And having options isn't a bad thing to have. Plus, you get to stay in Prague during the course!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Enjoy it. It can be difficult and you need to stay focused on doing your work, but also take advantage of your time in Prague.

I completed the TEFL Worldwide Course in Prague in July 2013. It was a fantastic programme, the course structure and standard of teaching was great and I feel like I learnt so much in just 4 weeks. I enjoyed learning about the different aspects of teaching English and although there were assignments to complete, I felt that there was plenty of time to complete them and they helped grasp my understanding of what was learnt. The instructors were extremely friendly and always very helpful, and have continued to help me throughout my future career as an English teacher abroad. Prague is a beautiful city, so to get the chance to live in a place like this for a month whilst also completing a worthwhile TEFL program was the best of both worlds. I would therefore highly recommend the programme to anybody who is looking for an adventure and the chance to live abroad, as this is a great first step towards teaching English in a variety of countries.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?

The most nerve-racking moment about the course is the day that you start practicing teaching in front of Czech adults. At first this may seem very daunting, however the adults who you are teaching are extremely friendly and patient, and you soon get used to it. The positive support you get from the instructors also helps you to feel more confident and they are very understanding that for a lot of people it is their first time teaching.

I completed the course in July 2017 and ever since then, I've been thankful that I did! The quality of the instruction and the detailed guidance and feedback that we got during the course made me develop substantially as a teacher and also made me fall in love with teaching.

It is an intense experience but you'll be thankful for every bit of it, since everything in the course serves to make you the best teacher you can be. The instructors are some of the best teachers I've ever had, and you get to meet a bunch of great people such as the rest of the staff and the fellow students.

Even a long time after graduation, they are helpful with answering any questions, helping with references, and job guidance. All in all, I would recommend this course to anyone!

I've participated in this program in the summer of 2018. Approximately half of the students were from the US, and the remainder from EU (incl. the Czech Republic) and non-EU European countries and South America.

The program was academically challenging. There was a steep learning curve in grammatical concepts. The teaching practice started immediately and required understanding of the material and diligent lesson planning in order to be successful. I've learned a lot and came away with enough knowledge and skills to start teaching as well as lot of ideas on where I needed to improve and grow.

Highlights:
- Experienced and knowledgable instructors from varied backgrounds
- Strong focus on practical classroom teaching experience, with practice teaching 4 days/week, with students of 4 different skill levels
- Smaller program, with personal touch from instructors and staff
- A great choice for someone looking to teach in the Czech Republic
- lot of extras like young learners workshop, 1:1 needs assessment and instruction, practical advice on the business and logistics side of being a teacher

I found my month long course here very satisfying and rewarding.

Everything you learn during the course is super interesting and useful. The teaching staff is great! They're knowledgeable and always ready to help.
The fact that you get the chance to experience hands-on teaching to various levels is great preparation for the real world. You receive constructive feedback from the teaching staff and peers who are observing you.
After this course I can say that I feel ready to start teaching!

You also meet a bunch of great and interesting people, that will likely end up being friends for life.

The workload is high, but it's all really interesting and fun to do. You'll have various assignments like analysing the needs and level of a one-to-one student, preparing a one to one lesson and grammar presentations. You'll learn so much from these assignments!

They also provide good job guidance and helpful info on how to get a job.

TEFL Worldwide Prague prepared me extremely well to work for language institutes, companies, and vocational schools in Germany. We learned many teaching techniques and practiced them while teaching to learners at all speaking levels. We also did a grammar refresher that served very useful. The training I received was instrumental to my success at companies, as well as in group settings and to one-to-one clients in Germany. Having practice-taught all levels and all classroom sizes (including one-to-one), I felt very confident in Germany. The repertoire of skills I gained at TEFL Worldwide Prague helped me ease into language schools quickly because of the breadth of knowledge and experience I gained during this one intense month at TEFL Worldwide Prague. I felt confident in Germany because of how authentic the practice teaching was in Prague. Furthermore, the feedback after our practice lessons was very detailed and constructive. The program was thorough, intense, and enjoyable. The staff was always available. Completing the course in the backdrop of Prague really felt empowering. The world truly opened up its doors upon completion of this course.

Did the program in February of last year and have been teaching in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and now Tainan and Taichung, Taiwan. It's not easy but the course is definitely worth it. The course focuses on teaching adults but also provided a young learner workshop. There is plenty of support before, during, and after the course as well as a few Czech lessons. Prior to this I was teaching in America but teaching ESL is it's own unique challenge.

What would you improve about this program?

Longer school hours for lesson planning

TEFL Worldwide Prague offers a month long TEFL course in Prague. Very close to the city center. The classes are very long and can be challenging at times. Time management is very important because there are many assignments and lessons to teach throughout the course. You are expected to develop lesson plans and teach as soon as you start the course. It can be uncomfortable at first but it provides you with hands-on experience so you can be ready when you are out there in the world. The program is very well set up and they help you with housing, job asssitance, and anything you need during and after the course. They offer lifetime job assistance.
Another great thing about the program is that even though you might come to Prague by yourself, you will be meeting lots of people during the course and possibly making some life long friends. Moving to Prague and studing at TEFL Worldwide Prague have been some of the best experiences of my life. I encourage you to do it too!

Why did you choose this program?

I had just finished completing 2 years of ESL teaching in Japan and I was ready to make the transition to teaching in public schools or private schools. However, interview after interview, I received the same response of loving my teaching experience and philosophy but couldn't hire me because my B.A. was not in Education. Many former co-workers had suggested an intensive TEFL program, but I had no idea which one to even consider.

Then a dear friend and fellow educator suggested Prague as the sight of achieving my TEFL certificate. After days of research and reading reviews, TEFL Worldwide was the only choice for me. The deciding factor came down to TEFL Worldwide offering actual classes with students of multiple English abilities as a form of practice and to be guided by a licensed teacher.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

TEFL Worldwide helped organize accommodations, airport pick up, a city tour of Prague 1, recommendations on malls and stores with multilingual staff, and 24/7 support by phone should an emergency arise during the course of the students stay.

Purchasing of the airplane tickets, public transportation passes, and interactions with the students assigned to you during the course was up to the teacher. However, support was available should translations from English to Czech were needed. Even if the school could not directly do it for you, help was available should it be requested.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

This course is NOT for the faint of heart. A normal TEFL certificate class is spread over three months in most cases. TEFL Worldwide is a four week, SUPER intensive course with daily homework, readings, and assignments on top of bigger projects due throughout the month.

If your learning style calls for slower paces, this is not the course for you.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

Mondays are generally dedicated to all day long classes, split up in presentations by the programs instructors. Tuesday - Friday are often instructional classes in the morning followed by teaching practice/observation of other classmates lessons.

There are no classes on Saturday and Sunday. It is not uncommon for teachers in the program to spend a day working on assignments and exploring in or around Prague.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

After having spent two years in Asia, I will still be dealing with reverse culture shock in the United States when I left for Eastern Europe. My mind was racing with thoughts of etiquette, expectations of foreigners, food, time zone differences, and etc. As my first time in Europe, I was not prepared for how much I would come to love the people, food, and culture.

I overcame the fear of my preconceptions by forcing myself to do things that were not easy such as going to a cafe in Prague where the entire menu was in Czech, traveling on the local trains outside of Prague, and trying to use the language whenever I could.

My Czech still may not be perfect or music to anyone's ears, but by forcing myself to do that, it helped ease my fears.

What is your favorite travel memory?

Hard to say. I didn't travel much when I was young so after I graduated, it was as if everything was a new opportunity. The first country that I visited which was vastly different from my own was Malaysia, so that country will always have special memories for me.

When I was teaching in the US, I had the idea to travel during the summer breaks. But I realized I'd only be living for those times when I'd get to travel. I was then introduced to the idea of teaching English abroad. Instead of waiting to travel, I'd be living elsewhere constantly. I loved the opportunity of living in other countries and actually getting a closer look at what makes them special.

Which destination is most underrated? Conversely, which is most overrated?

I don't know if any places are over or underrated. You can have a great time or terrible time anywhere depending upon your experiences there, the people you meet, your own attitude, etc. Personally, there are lots of places I haven't been and would like to go, so I don't want to dismiss any opportunity I haven't taken.

That said, I've been very lucky in the places I've taught. Living in Rome opposite the Pantheon, an island in Southeast Asia, the south of Spain, and of course Prague, still one of the most beautiful cities on earth, at least of those I've been to.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

There are so many factors. Our staff, our trainers, our leader are all important components. But the biggest one is probably our graduates. I've personally helped train over 800 teachers over the years and I try to stay in contact with as many of them as I can. They are, by far, the best representatives of our work. I'm really proud when they are able to get a job abroad, go for a new experience and we were a part of helping make that happen.

What unique qualities does your company possess?

Overall, TEFL Worldwide is a great place to work. The staff is small and hard-working. My fellow trainers are full of energy and passion for what they do. And the owner is very dedicated to her company and clients. The location is ideal in a quiet part of Prague but with ample ways to get to various locations around the city.

In my profession, we change employers a lot, each time you move to a new country basically. TEFL Worldwide is one of, if not the, best places I've ever worked.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

I can't choose just one story, there are loads of great experiences. I've often said that my big days of traveling are over, but then when I keep in contact with graduates and I hear about all of the exciting places they are going and things they are doing, I feel that travel bug itching again.

To be honest, the best stories are when graduates share funny or interesting classroom experiences they have had. As everyone is teaching or has taught at some point, we can all relate. Those stories tend to be the most universal as you can see that teaching English, for all its ups and downs, is a really fun profession.
