I had an excellent experience with Teaching Nomad. My recruiter Sophia was a wonderful resource. She had visited the school I interviewed with, and gave me good positive information about the school and hiring process. I am happy with the overall service of this company. I was offered a position in the UAE as a high school assistant principal. Thank you again Teaching Nomad for all of your help. :)

I recently got my second teaching job in China with the expert help of Nomad. They supported me every step of the way, preparing my pre-interview, contacting references, and making an effective first introduction to the opportunities they "hand picked" for me. Pleased to recommend them as a first-rate placement service in China!

What would you improve about this program?
Some general advice might be, as with any job opportunity, the candidate should do their "homework" about the future school's financial and operating situation, and prospects for stability or growth going forward.

Hassle free job placement

From the beginning, Teaching Nomad has been very supportive and encouraging of my teaching endeavors. All I had to do was tell them exactly what I was looking for in a job, and they were able to find me a teaching position based on the criteria I provided. I will now be working with children in Shanghai and could not be any happier. Teaching Nomad guided me through the whole application and interview process for my new job, and I can honestly say that they had my best interests at heart. The never hesitated to answer any of my questions, offered as much help as they could, and were very professional throughout the entire process. I got some really good insight on life in Shanghai from my recruiter, which was really comforting.
Teaching Nomad will figure out what it is that you want and need, find you a suitable placement, and guide you every step of the way. Finding a job in China was MUCH easier than I expected. You can't go wrong!

Would the Middle East be accepting of a South African teacher with a PGCE and 5 years of pre-PGCE teaching experience in Korea?

I don't believe that the Middle East would be accepting of a South African's teaching experience prior to obtaining the PGCE qualification in Korea or experience from any other country for that matter. Most requirements are 2 years experience post PGCE and have increased that to 3 years. I had more than 5 years of experience from South Africa prior to completing my PGCE which was not taken into...

How would it work moving with a family of three? Meaning myself, husband and child?

There's a number of factors to consider like: 1. Will your husband be working 2. Age of your child and whether or not they require tuition. 3. Your qualifications and experience. Are Bachelor degrees from online colleges accepted?

Generally speaking, degrees from fully online colleges are not accepted for work visa approval. However if the school offers both campus based & online programs, the online degree could be accepted.

I will have a Degree and QTS in primary education. Do they support NQTs or do you have to have experience before applying?

Hello Callum, we have schools that will hire NQT's however for the experience to count towards your full QTS, you need to be hired by an accredited BSO (British school overseas) and we don't currently have openings at any of those. I suggest to register at www.teachingnomad.com and create a job alert to keep an eye on new openings.

Sophia was born and raised in Austin, Texas. She earned a BA in Biology from the University of Texas. She has 5 years teaching experience and has traveled to over 20 different countries. Her love of teaching and travel make her excited to be able to share the opportunity with others through Teaching Nomad.

What is your favorite travel memory?

While living in Shanghai, my husband and I took a trip to Chiang Mai to complete the Mai Hong Son loop by motorcycle. It's a 600 km loop that takes you through some of the more out of the way travel destinations of Northern Thailand including the highest point in Thailand to rice terraces to a cool little hippie town called Pai.

The sights were breathtaking and the riding was exhilarating. Before this trip, I'd never driven a motorcycle, so mastering a new skill along the way was just an added bonus.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I've changed and grown in a lot of ways since working with Teaching Nomad, but I think the most significant change has come from the exposure to so many new cultures. While living in Shanghai, I learned Mandarin and had the opportunity to travel to so many different countries.

This has really opened my eyes to other ways of thinking and doing things.

Living in such a connected world makes a development of cultural sensitivity and knowledge especially important. I wouldn't trade this experience experience for anything.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Our company is unique because it was started in Shanghai, China and while we now have a second location in Denver, USA, the office in China continues to run and helps us coordinate with schools and teachers living in the area.

Additionally, having an international presence has given our team real life experience of what it's like to live and work abroad, which helps us relate to international teachers. We can really share in the excitement and challenges that you will face when moving abroad.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

One of the biggest reasons why Teaching Nomad has had success is because we take the time to listen to teachers and strive to get an understanding of the type of position they would be most suited to.

We have many different types of jobs available and we put a lot of importance on matching teachers to the right job. This is important for both the teacher and the school to have a mutually positive experience.
