Studying with Uni-Prep for me was the best decision i have ever made.The videos and pdf were very clear and even the quizez were simple and straight forwad.I really enjoyed reading all the study materials and i know it is going to be very helpful when i start my career,i cannot wait to put everything i have studied into practise.Thank you uni prep.

I think everything about uni prep is perfect!

I enjoyed the course. It wasn't too long and I learned some helpful things about listening, writing, reading, speaking, pronunciation, etc.

The narrator on the videos sounded just like my co-worker Ed, so I felt the voice was familiar and soothing.

What would you improve about this program?

Some of the quiz questions were ambiguous, especially for Unit 9.

I just finished the course to obtain Tesol certificate. I am very happy. During the course we have all explainations, videos , texts. All are very useful. I deeply recommend Uni-Prep !

What would you improve about this program?

Sometimes the sound on videos is not perfect.

This was a well-structured and well-presented course that I did not find overly exerting but which left me with genuinely valuable knowledge to utilize in a role as an English teacher.

The course consisted of reading and video content both of which complimented each other. There were also regular assessments which I appreciated for its role in challenging my knowledge on an interim basis.

What would you improve about this program?

Additional reading material per module.

I felt that the material was easy to grasp, focused on the fundamentals and introducing new terms and English teaching 'jargon' pretty well. Having taught a little already I can say that the material is accurate. It would have been a lot easier at the start of my teaching career to know then what I know now. I feel that I can be in a school or classroom enviroment and not feel out of my depth in terms of knowledge level with the other teachers. Many people are looking for a minimum of a certificate for teaching here in Hanoi, I think this certificate is enough for about 40% of centers here. Perfect if you want to test the waters of a teaching career with having to layout $1600 for a CELTA.

What would you improve about this program?

More modules.

This is a great course for its affordable price. The lecture/reading format worked well. Readings were simple and understandable as well as the lectures. The information packed in the course is great and helpful for anyone wanting to teach. The quizzes are easy if you do the lectures and readings. The quiz time given is very plentiful especially since the quizzes are short. I would recommend this program to others who are looking.

What would you improve about this program?

I think more visuals in the lectures would be helpful in learning how to teach English.

I have just completed the TESOL certificate course. It was by far the most economic decision I made in obtaining an accredited certificate. The course provided a lot of useful information and real world examples. I have actually printed the lessons to keep with me for future reference. I would have however, preferred much more visual aids instead of just audio and text. It would also be great to be able to reach someone by phone and/or receive more timely response by e-mail.

What would you improve about this program?

During business hours someone should be available to pick up the answer phone calls. E-mail response should be 24 hours or less, more often less. It is important to know that a live person can be there to help.

Very interesting and innovative course. I learned a lot about teaching students of different ages. It included many helpful ideas to use in my teaching and to make learning enjoyable to students. I definitely recommend this course to others

What would you improve about this program?

The only thing I can think of would be a quicker turn around time for questions sent to the Training department. Everything else was very good.

Yes, we certainly do. Most students contact us directly with questions, which is why you might not see so many questions asked on this platform.

Do you have to have a teachers license or a bachelors degree?

You do not need a degree or teacher's license to register in or complete our courses. Most of our students are not teachers and do not have a teacher's license - though some do and take our course to upgrade their credentials.

Why did you choose this program?

Because I wanted to improve my chances of getting an English teaching job in China. I needed to get more qualified in order to be able to get jobs. This program was helpful because it offered me the chance to be able to get the certificate quickly as a PDF and also to ship the original certificate to me.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

They had videos, reading materials and quizzes. I already have some years of experience of teaching in different environments so I just tried to add that information to my experience and it was successful. Since the quizzes are the same for everybody, you should see which parts of information you know from before and which parts you're just learning, and that's what determines how much you're going to do on your own and how much you're going to be using the offered materials.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I'd say that you can't know everything in advance, but if you're more knowledgeable and have more qualifications, it's always going to be in your own favor. Although even if you are completely qualified, you are always going to see new things at first, until you adapt completely to the new environment.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

Study, memorize and apply the learned techniques in your lessons and/or in your ideas for future lessons. You have to compare what you're learning vs. what you did before and try to improve on everything. Every day, you should definitely be studying and doing your best; this is obviously very important.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

Generally speaking, being afraid doesn't help anything, so you should always try to deal with issues as they come up. This hopefully helps you get ready to deal with the challenges you face. You can learn more and therefore replace fear with knowledge, which helps you deal with a lot more than just one issue.

What position do you hold at Uni-prep? What has been your career path so far?

I am the Operations Manager at UNI-Prep in charge of all our online courses and international operations. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science and worked for several years as an Analyst and Consultant before traveling to Dubai, UAE. In Dubai, one of the many projects I worked on was teaching English to students of various ages, including corporate clients and CEOs.

The culmination of my international work experience eventually led me to the world of online learning, along with TESOL teacher training. I really enjoy helping to develop new courses and finding new ways to make the online learning process more interactive and enjoyable!

Did YOU teach abroad?! If so, where and what inspired you to go?

Yes, I taught in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for 3 years where I was involved in the education industry in a number of ways. I had the privilege of teaching English at their police academy and to members of the army, along with corporate clients and C-level executives.

My family has always put an importance on traveling, so after graduating from university and gaining some work experience, I found myself seeking something different and exciting. I received a job offer to work as a Consultant in Dubai and basically ‘lucked-into’ the world of English teachers and online learning. I haven’t left since!

What does the future hold for Uni-prep?

The best part of my job is developing new courses and improving the features of our online courses – and that’s the future of UNI-Prep. We already offer a number of courses aside from TESOL in the areas of business and management, and we will be developing more. Right now, UNI-Prep is forming partnerships with job boards to give our students and graduates premium access to job search tools.

We are also in the process of creating internships and teaching opportunities with our organization and partner schools around the world. When it comes to our courses, some of our future features will include a mobile app to study from your phone, classroom chats and discussion boards.

What about the future of the teach abroad industry? How do you think education will change over the next 10 years?

English is likely to grow as the international language over the next 10 years, which will double the need for English language teachers around the world. In addition, we are seeing that online learning is becoming more popular and accepted as a cheaper and more flexible alternative to traditional classes.

With the combination of these, we not only expect an increase in the need for classroom teachers, but also virtual teachers. To give one example, English lessons through Skype is becoming a popular method of learning English, something already offered by UNI-Prep.

Which teach abroad destination is most underrated? Conversely, which is most overrated?

South America is the most underrated destination as the lower pay discourages a lot of teachers from otherwise going there. However, most individuals don’t realize the cost of living is so cheap that their salary can afford them a better experience with more spending money than a higher salary in other parts of the world.

I think parts of the Middle East can be overrated. The high pay attracts lots of candidates, but many of these countries have strict rules that may impact your ability to fully enjoy the experience. It’s very important to keep in mind the culture of the destination country when you are deciding where to work.
